Enabling/Regulating Authority None Background Discussion
● Manatee Millennial Movement was awarded a $5,000 grant for Cyclovia Bradenton from the Emerging City Champions Program (Knight Foundation and 8 80 Cities) in 2016.
● Cyclovia Bradenton was hosted in south Manatee near State College of Florida in 2017. ● In 2018, Cyclovia Bradenton has been rebranded into Open Streets Manatee. Open Streets Manatee aims
to reclaim the street as an active public space by getting citizens out of their cars and into the streets to see how easy and fun it is to walk, bike, skate, skip, or run around our beautiful town.
● Open Streets Manatee attendees will have fun while engaging with Open Streets and Complete Streets philosophies, learning about road safety, sharing ideas for multi-modal improvements, and thinking differently about mobility in Manatee County.
● The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 10 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Sutton Park and along 10th Avenue West in Palmetto.
● The event will be co-sponsored with the Manatee Millennial Movement (Manatee County Government), Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), City of Palmetto, and Florida Department of Transportation.

General Overview: Walk, Bike, Ride, Skate, or Dance on 10th Avenue West! Date: Saturday November 10, 2018 9:00am - 2:00pm
Background: Open Streets or Cyclovia events aim to “open” the streets to non-motorized use only. The events originated in Bogota, Columbia nearly 40 years ago. It was wildly success-ful and now each Sunday is dedicated to closing down streets for all to enjoy. As the popularity and ideas took off the word reached thousands of cities across the globe.
While the chosen route for Open Streets Manatee is tiny in comparison to that of Bo-gota, it will still provide all the same luxuries. This event is all about a party in the streets where people of all ages and capabilities can enjoy! We want to provide educa-tional information, healthy lifestyle opportunities, fitness demonstrations, and a mil-lion more options all while serving the community in the best way possible. With the date coinciding with Veteran’s Day this event will also honor all those who served and are continuing to do so in many special ways.
Event Mission: Open Streets Manatee will provide a safe car-free and care-free environment for the diverse community of Palmetto. We want to highlight the eclectic community, art, mu-sic, food, business offerings, and provide education on how to make streets more ac-cessible. We aim to honor the citizens and community by providing a unique and free experience for all.
GOALS:
Provide a Car-free and Care-free environment
Honor the Palmetto Community
Promote awareness of cycling and walking as modes of transportation
Encourage public involvement on increasing mobility options
Promote healthy living in all ways
