Prayers for John and Kim who are able to be attentively present each day, and for the rest of the family who care so deeply. Arlene has returned to her home for recovery and physical therapy. We pray for her healing. We pray for Gloria Garber , who has moved back to Timbercrest. May her spirit be enlivened by the nearness of her mother Ann , her family and the familiarity of friends and place. We also lift those who quietly face their concerns and struggles on their own, in their own way, who draw strength from the care and prayers from the congregation. For to pray for one is to pray for all , and we can all receive the comforting strength to live this life. We offer a prayer of gratitude for Mary Kathryn Uhrig who turns 100 this Friday, May 28 and Ruth Egolf turns 100 on Saturday, May 29 . We pray blessings upon both of them! Let us be in prayer and thanksgiving for Iglesia Bautista Emanuel and the San Raphael Health Clinic , for Dr. Josephina Baharona and her staff for their devoted services twice a week serving over 650 families, and we pray for Lidia Castro as she has Glaocoma and Cateract surgery this Tuesday, May 25. We lift up the Cease - Fire in Gaza , that this will not simply be a pause in warfare. Our prayers are for true human rising to something new and unrealized, that all may live. We keep in God’s sight, our own denominational leaders who are gearing up toward an unprecedented way of doing annual conference, that it proves to be an opportunity for Vol.5 No.21 peacefully, simply, together May 23, 2021 Manchester Church of the Brethren

Prayer concerns Please join in holding the following persons and situations close to your hearts in prayer – both today and in the week ahead: We pray for Reena Markstahler who broke her leg, has had

surgery and is now recovering with a full cast. Our prayers are for the imagination of doing things a new and different way this summer, as her body heals.

We pray for Kenneth Frantz, who spent some time in the hospital, and returned to healthcare at Timbercrest and is now on hospice.

We pray for Martha Bowman, who has returned home and is on hospice. We pray for her care and comfort. We lift up Bob and their family who are surrounding her in this time.

We pray for Kay Reinoehl, who began the week in serious condition, but has turned her health situation around with strength. She remains in the hospital for now. Prayers for John and Kim who are able to be attentively present each day, and for the rest of the family who care so deeply.

We pray for the family of Sharon Kreps, who passed away Saturday morning, May 22, in her room at Peabody. May her soul be at peace, restored to a new wholeness. We lift Dave and the whole family in prayer.

Sunday Even ing

7pm | in-person | Outdoors | Livestream services available on our YouTube channel

SUNDAY, JUNE 13 ♥ 5:30 PM

The Education Commission is sponsoring an informal gathering outside the church with yard games for families, and space for children to run before our outdoor evening worship begins!

THERE WILL NOT BE FOOD OR BEVERAGES AS THIS IS MORE FOR THE KIDS TO ENJOY EACH OTHER

AND THE OUTDOORS.

To continue our celebration of EARTH DAY and EARTH HOUR, the Witness Commission is providing weekly suggested earth-centered activities!

Here's this week's idea: TAKE ACTION !

Combat our Single-Use Plastics Problem A SMALL, PLASTIC STRAW – SUCH A BIG PROBLEM !

Plastic straws and other single-use plastics are a non-essential part of our life. It’s something that comes with most beverage orders, from soft drinks to even a glass of water! Plastic Straws can’t be easily Recycled most made from type 5 plastic, or polypropylene. They end up in landfills and pollute our oceans! Whenever there is an ocean coastline cleanup, plastic straws never fail to make it on the list of one of the most found ocean litter. Fish, turtles and birds eat them thinking they are food, and get stuck in their nostrils/gills. One million seabirds die each year from ingesting plastic. The simplest way to reduce plastic pollution is to reject the use of single-use, like straws. So, the next time you go to a restaurant, request your drink without a straw. Or, use reusable straws! You can buy them in stainless steel, glass, or even bamboo. They are durable and easy to clean, and even come with a special cleaning brush! They usually cost around $1-$2 each and easily found on Amazon and at other retailers.

NUDGE: What are 3 words that describe your way in the world, that describe you as being "in the world

but not of the world" as a follower of Christ? Maybe say a thank you to someone for how they embody the love of Christ in the world.

Community Pantry & North

Manchester Public Library

Partnership The Main Goal of the pantry is to help those facing nutritional insecurity, by providing easy, 24/7 access to free and nutritious food (it’s also a way to reduce food waste). It is located at the NMPL under the awning that faces Market Street. This is a small outdoor shed that the community has stocked with items, such as:

♥ canned goods ♥ diapers ♥ toilet paper ♥ hygiene products

♥ snack items ♥ and more!

The Pantry has received an outpouring of donations, but is not being utilized by community members or neighbors taking items. Please spread the word that is here and it is a mutual aid space that you can access any time, day or night. You can take as much as you need, no questions asked.

There are still several needs for Camp Mack staff this summer. You can help by sharing this information with anyone you know. We still need lifeguard/program/facility staff. If you are 18 years of age or older and are willing to be certified as a lifeguard, call us now. We need you! We also need counselors for our youth camps this summer. This is a six-week position.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR PEOPLE WHO:

• Seek to be part of an important ministry

• Enjoy serving others

• Desire a caring and supportive community

• Thrive in a natural environment

• Want scholarship opportunities

• Are team-oriented and motivated by challenge

If you know such a person, then we are a perfect fit! Help us connect and offer these and other benefits to them.

Virtual Blood Drive

#SleevesUpBrethren2021 campaign offers Brethren a chance to give This year, with the entire Conference online, we are encouraging everyone in the Church of the Brethren (regardless of whether registering for or attending the Conference) to join the Virtual Blood Drive and to donate locally between June 15 and July 15. Here is how to participate:

— Pledge to give blood on behalf of the Church of the Brethren by going to www.brethren.org/virtualblooddrive2021 for a link to pledge through the American Red Cross SleevesUp website; OR contact Brethren Disaster Ministries to give a pledge by email to [email protected] or by phone to 800-451-4407 ext. 1.

— Find a blood drive near you offered by any blood service and make an appointment to donate, preferably between June 15 and July 15. Red Cross drives can be found at www.redcross.org/give-blood.html.

— Keep your appointment! Take a photo, if you can, to celebrate your gift and to encourage others to donate.

— Make sure to let Brethren Disaster Ministries know by email or phone that you followed through with your pledge. It is the only way we can confirm that you gave blood.

— Share your photos with us and share them on any social media, using #SleevesUpBrethren2021.

If you have any questions or want more information, contact Sharon Franzén at Brethren Disaster Ministries at [email protected] or 800-451-4407 ext. 1.
