Dear Parents and Carers
It’s been a great week in school, with signs of Spring on the way. On Thursday the
Football and Netball teams were able to practice outside. Congratulations to the
football team supported Mr Wigley and Mr McNicholas with their stunning victory last
Friday. Good luck to our Netball team competing this week, supported by Miss
Luckett, Mrs Ralph and Mrs Stonehill. I’m sure the smart netball skirts will make all
the difference! We had a great day celebrating World Book Day on Thursday and we
were very comfortable in our pyjamas! Thank you to Miss Smithson for leading on the
change of focus this year with children encouraged to think of books and reading
rather than just the characters. Mrs Whitehead
Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update:
Currently, like all organisations we don’t know to what extent we may be affected by
the coronavirus. Like the Department of Health, during the likely epidemic we are
planning for the worst but hoping for the best. In order to work together and to support
families, we intend to have a weekly update in the newsletter for parents. In addition to
this we will send regular information via emails as appropriate.
Our preparations are focussed on the following areas:
Communication
We have put into place more frequent staff communication, often daily, between all
school staff and school leaders. This is especially important for sharing information
from local and national government, managing absence and adjusting to changes in
staffing. We have a staffroom noticeboard for Coronavirus updates.
The headteacher and senior leaders are in regular contact with the Co-Chairs and Vice
Chair of Governors. This will be important in making strategic decisions, such as
deciding if we have enough staff to remain open.
Our office staff are all trained in sending informative emails to parents so that should
one or more be absent, we will continue to send emails to parents. Please check we
have your up to date phone and email details.
The school phone and email address for you to contact us are:

Hand Washing
We have ample supplies of soap and paper towels. The children have been well-
supported by teachers, teaching assistants and lunchtime supervisors to practice
hand–washing. The staff are also regularly reminding children about handwashing and
making sure that supplies of soap and paper towels are available. We also have boxes
of tissues and bins in classrooms.
Teamwork
We have a great staff at Maney Hill and in school we are all pulling together to prepare
for a likely epidemic. As a team of staff we will do what we can to support the children,
parents and each other, as we always do.
If you have any comments or suggestions to support our preparations, please let us
know via the school phone number or email address.
Should you or your family need it, Good Hope Hospital now have a ‘pod’ for suspected
cases of Coronavirus.

Having responsibility for our
school…being Librarians!
As soon as we got picked to be librarians in Year
5, we were overjoyed. At first, we were just
tidying the bookshelves around the school but,
as time passed by, our jobs got more and more
interesting. We started to focus more on the
new library, doing jobs such as unboxing the
books and putting them on the shelves. After a
few weeks of hard work, the library was
finished! When we finished the library, we were
assigned our jobs. The jobs were: to put the
books in alphabetical order; tidying the library;
dusting the shelves and sorting the returned
books out.
When we were doing our jobs, we finally found
out how amazing the library looked. We all
enjoy working in the library very much - it is
brilliant and we hope it will always stay
brilliant! Since our library could do with a few
more fantastic books, we recommend these
books that we are currently reading in class:
Tom Gates - Excellent Excuses (suitable for
Year 3-6); Artemis Fowl (suitable for Year 6);
David Walliams - Billionaire Boy (suitable for
Years 3-6) and Roald Dahl - James and the
Giant Peach (suitable for Years 2-6). Some
books that we also recommend for younger
years are: Dog Man, Captain Underpants
and The Rainbow Fairies.

Football Report
On Friday night the boy’s football played
an Away match against St Joseph’s
School. The game acted as a league and
cup double-header.
Despite the awful weather throughout the
day, the pitch was in good condition and
suited the passing football that the children
used. After conceding the first goal,
Maney took over and scored 5 unanswered
goals to make the score 5-1 at half-time.
After advice to avoid complacency, the
team went on to add another 5 goals in the
second half, making the final score 10-1 to
Maney.
This result means that we advance to a
quarter-final match against Boldmere, as
well as securing three points to boost our
league position. Well done to Joe L,
Ramy, Jake, Joe R, Dylan, Lewis, Zain and
Zak for an excellent team effort.
Mr Wigley and Mr McNicholas
