Susan Cain: The Power of Introverts
her thesis is about how our society is based around extroverted individuals while
Introverted people are looked down upon in society. Also a healthy society should be based on a well balance system for both
extroverts and introverts.
Shy ≠ Introvert
Shy- Is a fear of social judgment
Introversion – Is how a person responds to social stimulation.
Susan Cain caught the audience attention
by starting off with a story from her childhood while holding a
bag that is used as a metaphor.
Susan Cain maintains interest in her speech by using stories, statistics, and metaphors.
Dynamism evaluation:1 (lowest) to 5 (Highest)
4/5
I rate Susan a 4 because she lacked visual representation especially when she mentions statistics and historical
figures. However her speech was filled with charisma and stories to keep it
interesting.
Garr Reynolds or Nancy Duarte tips used
visual representation was not used in Susan Cain’s presentation.
However, she did use a lot of movement
She told several interpersonal stories during her speech, making her speech structure close to that of Nancy Duarte’s ideal speech.
I should try to make the
speech personal by using stories.
relax both myself and the audience by making appropriate
jokes
Similarities:
They both want to change a aspect in our modern society
They both wish to conserve creativity in individuals
Differences:Sir Ken Robinson wishes to change the whole education system
Susan Cain wishes to change societies views on Introverts only
Susan tells more personal stories and also speaks more fluently than Robinson
However, Robinson seems more comfortable with crowds and
influences audience more.
AdviceUse visuals
Speak fluently
Make it personal!
