INTRODUCTION

IMPORTANCE OF THE CONSUMER BEHAVIOUR

In old days, the importance of the study of consumer behavior was not realized by business and

industrial enterprises. It was taken for granted that whatever is produced, can be easily in the

market. It was further assumed that the customers have no choice or preference of their own and

they purchase whatever is sold to them. It was considered enough for a marketer to collect the

quantitative data of consumption. No need was realized for collecting and analyzing the qualitative

data. Now, the time has changed, recognitions have changed and consideration has changed. The

business and industrial enterprise have realized the importance of the study of consumer behaviors.

They have come to realize that no marketing efforts can be successful if the choices, tastes and

attitudes of consumers are not properly considered.

Therefore the stress is laid upon marketing research and the study of consumer

behavior. All the efforts are made to diagnose the needs and wants of consumers. Goods and

services are produced accepting to the specifications of these needs and wants and these goods and

services are distributed to the consumers at the right time and place through most suited channels

of distribution. All the marketing activities of today go around the satisfaction of consumer needs.

The importance of the study of consumer behavior may be explained as under:

1-Production Policies: The study of consumer behavior affects of the enterprise. Consumer

behavior discovers the habits, tastes and preference of consumers and such discovery enables an

enterprise to plan and develop its products according to these specifications. It is necessary for an

enterprise to be in continuous touch with the changes is consumers behavior so that necessary

changes in products may be made.

2-Price Policies: An organization must study the behavior of his consumer very well before

fixing the price of his product because the consumer behaviors affects price policies of the

8

Page 9: manisha.doc

enterprise to a great extent. For example some people purchase a product only because it increases

their social prestige.

3-Distribution Policies: Consumer behavior affects distribution policies of an enterprise also. It is

necessary for the manufacturer to assure regular and continuous supply for the manufacturers to

assure regular and continuous supply of products in the market.

4-Sales Promotion Policies: The study of consumer behavior helps the enterprises in knowing the

buying motives of consumer. The decisions of the form, color, packing and labeling etc. of the

products are directly affected by the motives for which the consumer buys the products.

Above discussion makes it clear that the study of consumer behavior plays an important

role in the determination of marketing policies of the enterprise.

The Waterproofing Chemicals play an important role in the structure of building life. It is

said to be the ‘complete natural food’. Milk is consumed in every house without any consideration

of cost, creed, status, religion and age.

9

Page 10: manisha.doc

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

To know the factors which influence a consumer to go for particular brand.

To determine the appropriate delivery time of the Star product.

To know the market of Star products.

To study the response and behavior of the consumer.

To know whether the people are satisfied with the pricing of Star products.

To know awareness of consumer about Waterproofing.

10

Page 11: manisha.doc

IMPORTANCE

Analyzing market opportunity :- Consumer behavior helps in finding out that

what are the opportunities for marketing the product . The marketer can know

that what product they can produce to satisfy the needs and wants of the

customer and that will give them maximum profit.

Selecting target marketing:- The study of consumer behavior helps in selecting

the target market that which market to target and the needs to be satisfied of the

customers.

Marketing mix decision .

Use in social and nonprofit marketing.

IMPORTANCE OF WATERPROOFING

Waterproofing is very important from structural point of view as they contain almost all the

essential chemical constituents required in Building Structure.

Chemical industry also fits well in diversifying farming programs and reducing the

building structure risk involved in Structure. It provides a good waterproofing membranes.

Chemicals industry is also in maintaining the structure of building.

HOW THE STUDY HELP THE COMPANY?

During my project work in Star, I suggested new Questionnaires to know the satisfaction level of

the customers with the help of new Questionnaires. The company can make the changes or can

modify the old Questionnaires for better results. The new Questionnaires contain more questions

and are easy to understand that can be used for measuring satisfaction level of the customer.

STAR –PCE ‐ 4420

New Generation Slump Retaining PCE based Concrete Super plasticizer

Conforms to ASTM C494 Type B, D & G, ASTM C 1017 Type II

DESCRIPTION

STAR‐PCE 4420 is a High Range Water Reducing Admixture for High performance, High strength

and durable concrete. It is based on a Polycarboxylate Ether (PCE) Polymer. The main polymer

backbone has carboxyl groups for the adsorption on the surface of cement particles and alkoxy

polyether lateral chains that keep the particles physically away from each other. This phenomenon of

separating discrete solid agglomerating particles is known as Steric Hindrance. This result in superior

fluidity of the mixture combined with better retention of workability (slump) as compared to the

conventional super plasticizers based on Naphthalene or Melamine formaldehyde polycondensates. h

STAR‐PCE 4420 comprises of particles less than 1/50 the size of cement grains, and is synthesized

through ionic polymerization in nano‐scale.

STAR‐PCE 4420 is a High Range Super plasticizer (water reduction up to 40% in control concrete)

with superior cement dispersion ability to provide extremely high slump values, even to concrete

mixtures with water‐to‐cement ratio of less than 0.30. STAR‐PCE 4420 can provide slump retention

of more than 120 minutes after mixing at higher than ambient temperatures (35 C or more)

ADVANTAGES

STAR‐PCE 4420 is highly dosage efficient – a much smaller dosage as compared to conventional

super plasticizers is only sufficient. STAR‐PCE 4420 imparts high flow ability to the mixture so as to

fill the formwork under its own weight (self compacting ability) without any voids or segregation of

aggregates. This self compacting concrete (SCC) maintains fluidity for longer periods unlike

conventional super plasticizers that suffer rapid slump loss. STAR‐PCE 4420 can be used as a pump

ability enhancer combined with plasticizing effect which allows high range water reduction leading to

23

Page 24: manisha.doc

phenomenal increase in compressive strength, impermeability and durability. STAR‐PCE 4420 has no

effect on the setting time of concretes and develops high early strength that allows rapid progress in

large scale civil engineering applications. STAR‐PCE 4420 is ideal for pre‐cast and pre‐ stressed

concrete products. The very high fluidity of the concrete mixtures facilitated by STAR‐PCE 4420

results in smooth surfaces on removal of formwork.

DOSAGE

The optimum dosage determined by site trails with a specific concrete mix which enables the effects

of workability, strength gain and setting time to be measured.

The rate of addition of STAR‐PCE 4420 is typical between 0.4% to 1.2% by weight of cement.

SUGGESTION

Product:

1 -Continuous feedback from the market should be done, so that the change in technology, pattern

and preference of the consumer can come out in front of the manufacture.

2 -Packaging of the Star Coatings should also changed to unleakage packaging because most of

the consumers and agents were not happy with the packing

.

3 –Since waterproofing and construction chemicals are rarely used by Architects, so it is better for

the Structure to provide strength & works as a bonding agent.

4 -Organizations should take steps to improve the quality of Liquid Membranes.

Price:

1 Consumer wants the stability in the price of Star Coatings Membranes & Construction

Chemicals.

2 Organization increases the commission of the agents.

94

Page 95: manisha.doc

95

Page 96: manisha.doc

96

Page 97: manisha.doc

LIMITATION

1. Time constraint:

a. The time duration of conducting the research was less. So lots of other

factors were ignored.

b. A large sample could not be taken due to same reason.

2. It was only possible to conduct the survey during free hours. The dealers did

not respond when contacted during peak hrs.

3. As the areas covered in the survey were off the route and the any convenient

mode of transport was not available. The investigator faced a lot of problem

4. Most of the consumer were ignorant and were not willing to respond that

leads inaccuracy in the data collected.

5. As the data was based on consumer perception, it might be biased to certain

extent.

97

Page 98: manisha.doc

Place/distribution :

1 Behavior of the deliveryman is not up to the mark hence they should provide proper

training.

2 Proper co-ordination should be maintained between the agents, transporters and the

marketing department to reduce the spoilage of Chemical and time.

3 Home delivery of Construction chemicals and membranes must be introduced to provide

convience to the consumers.

Promotion:

1 Organization should provide promotional tools like hoarding, poly bags, samples of chemicals

etc to the agents.

2 Organization should introduce home delivery system in those areas where the sale of STAR is

minimum.
