JAMMU, Jan 25: TransportCommissioner, J&K, Dr. OwaisAhmed, today chaired a meetingto discuss the modalities for theintroduction of Aggregator Modelof auto and taxi services in thecities of Kashmir and Jammu divi-sions.

Senior officers of the depart-ment, besides representatives ofTaxi and Auto Unions, attendedthe meeting. TransportCommissioner stressed upon theneed for introduction ofAggregators in the capital cities asis being operated in major cities ofthe country.

He emphasized that this facili-ty will provide comfortable andeconomical service to the travelersand also give impetus to the busi-ness of taxi and auto rickshaws.

Regional Transport Officer,Jammu, Dhananter Singh empha-sized that the interests of the exist-ing taxi / auto operators will notbe harmed, while introducing thescheme as they can become mem-bers of the Aggregator. He stressedupon the taxi and auto operators to

spread awareness about thescheme among their counterparts.

The representatives presentedtheir views and expressed willing-ness in exploring the Aggregatormodel of providing services topublic. They also expressed thatthis will give boom to their busi-ness and make taxi & auto serviceaccessible to the public.

It was also decided that theinterests of the operators will bekept in mind while finalizing themodalities of the scheme.

Besides the aggregatorscheme, other issues discussedincluded 100% operation throughfare meters, revision of rates forprepaid and postpaid services pro-vided by auto & taxi operators,operationalisation of prepaidstands of taxis and autos at publicplaces.

The meeting was also attendedby Assistant TransportCommissioner, S. Swarn Singh.

Chanchal Singh, InderjeetSharma and Gurdeep Singh repre-sented the Taxi Union, whileShanti Saroop Gupta representedthe Auto Union.


MAJALTA, Jan 25: Re-iter-ating the demand for earlyrestoration of democracy inJ&K and holding of earlyAssembly polls, NPP chairmanand former minister Harsh DevSingh, today said that the erst-while state was being illogical-ly and illegitimately deprivedof popular Govt in violation ofconstitutional guarantees aswell as the ‘obiter dicta’ laiddown by the Apex court overthe subject.

“A remote controlled sys-tem of governance could not bethe solution for woes and suf-ferings of the people of J&K.Its the local leaders and localMinisters and elected MLAswho could better address theconcerns of their people andbail them out from their suffer-ings and pains”, said Singh.

The politicians and minis-ters from outside the state,despite their best of efforts,could not be the substitute forlegitimate, elected Govt whichalone could address the pecu-liar problems of the new set upin J&K”, asserted Singh. Hewas addressing public meetingsin village Baryalta andBilaspur in Tehsil Majalta ofRamnagar constituency today.

Taking a dig at the centre’smove of deputing a team ofMinisters to J&K to educate thepeople over Art 370 abrogationand withdrawal of special sta-tus, Singh said that J&K resi-dents knew more about Art370, its advantages or disad-vantages than those whobelonged to other states. Hesaid that majority of the visit-ing ministers had merely readabout the said law in books andmedia but the people of J&Khad lived and experienced thelaw.

“They had gone through theunique experience in the coun-try of having been subjected totwo different sets of laws, twoconstitutions and two flags.There was no need, as such, tolecture them on the so calledbenefits of scrapping the saidArticle. If at all, the CentralMinisters had any role in thechanged set up, it was to enacta law on domicile for the resi-dents of J&K so as to save theirlands and Jobs.

Questioning the inordinatedelay in holding Assemblyelections the new UT, the NPPChairman said that the centre’sproxy rule in J&K was antithet-ical to democracy and amount-ed to subversion of the consti-tution.

President Ram Nath Kovindapproved six Shaurya Chakras,107 Sena Medals and four VayuSena medals for gallantry ahead ofthe 71st Republic Day, defenceofficials said on Saturday.

He also approved, five NaoSena Medals (gallantry), four Barto Sena Medals (devotion to duty),36 Sena Medals (devotion toduty), eight Nao Sena Medals(devotion to duty), one Bar toVayu Sena Medal (devotion toduty) and 13 Vayu Sena Medals(devotion to duty).

Naib Subedar Sombir, wholaid down his life fighting terror-ists in an operation in Jammu andKashmir in February last year, wasposthumously awarded theShaurya Chakra, officials said.

Besides Sombir, Lt. Col JyotiLama, Maj. Konjenbham BijendraSingh, Naib Subedhar NarenderSingh, Naik Naresh Kumar andKarmdeo Oraon were also therecipients of the award.

Shaurya Chakra is awarded tothe armed forces for displayingextraordinary gallantry.

The President also approvedVayu-Sena Medal to SquadronLeaders Ninad Mandavgane andSiddharth Vashisht, pilots of theill-fated Mi17 V5 helicopterbrought down in a case of friendlyfire in February last year.

A surface-to-air missile of theIndian Air Force brought down thechopper in Kashmir's Budgam on

the morning of February 27 fol-lowing the failure of commandand control.

The incident took place in themidst of the Indian and Pakistanifighter jets being engaged in fierceaerial combat in Nowshera, a dayafter India's air strike on a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist trainingcamp in Balakot in Pakistan.

Sena Medal (gallantry) wasalso posthumously approved forHavildar Baljeet, Naik Sandeep,Naik Buta Singh, Naik KuldeepSingh and Rifleman Anil KumarJaiswal.

The President also approved30 Param Vishisht Sena Medals(PVSM) for 30 top armed forcespersonnel, including Lt. GenRanbir Singh, the Commander ofthe Northern Army Command andLt. Gen. Anil Chauhan, theCommander of the Army's EasternCommand.

Lt. Gen S K Saini, the ViceChief of the Army, G AshokKumar, the Vice Chief of the Navyand Harjit Singh Arora, the ViceChief of the Air Force were alsoawarded PVSMs.

Kovind also approved fourUttam Yudh Seva Meda (UYSM)to four top Army generals includ-ing Lt. Gen. Y K Joshi, who willsoon take charge of the NorthernArmy Command.

the last two years especially invarious programmes organisedby the Council.

While expressing gratitude ofthe members, she lauded theirrole as one unit for their relentlesssupport for running the origanisa-tion smoothly. Fisherman’s bodyrecovered from Ujh


KATHUA, Jan 25: The deadbody of a fisherman whodrowned in river Ujh two daysback has been fished out fromthe river today by police.

He has been identified asJaswant Raj, S/O Sain Dass ofKot Ponu in Mareen tehsil ofKathua district. He had gone tofishing over two days backalong with his two colleagues.But while fishing he had gonedeep in the river along the netbut drowned in the heavy cur-rent of water.

His two colleagues triedtheir best to trace him but theycould not get any clue of him.Later a rescue team was put intoservice to trace the body whofished out him from the rivertoday. His body was taken toSub District Hospital, Hiranagarfor autopsy by the police. Thedead body was later handedover to family for last rites afterlegal formalities by the police.Raj Bagh police has registered acase in this regard under Section174 IPC and started investiga-tion.

JAMMU, Jan 25: Old andrusted ammunition unearthed invillage Danwal, near TarootiKhud of tehsil Jourian inAkhnoor tehsil were destroyedsuccessfully by Army and Policetoday.

As per reports, when theearth work was being carried bya civilian of the village by usinga JCB machine on Friday morn-ing, five ammunition boxeswere spotted yesterday by theJCB operator and subsequentlypolice was informed.

As the police got informa-tion, they came into action andimmediately SHO, Akhnooralong with SDPO, AkhnoorAjay Sharma reached on thespot and realised that it was anold Army ammunition (80MMMotar shells).They informed theArmy.

Meanwhile, a bomb disposalteam from 10 Infantry DivisionAkhnoor, along with requisiteequipments rushed to the spotand launched the operation by

dispersing the gathered publicfrom the site where ammunitionwas spotted. After that the wholearea was taken under the policeguard.

After the arrival of Armybomb disposal team, the areaswas further sensitized and twomore boxes of ammunition wereunearthed during the search tak-ing total recoveries to sevenboxes ie. 14 shells in total.

Since it was getting dark, adecision was taken to carry outfurther sanitization of the areaand destroy them decision dur-ing light hours.

During early morning, thepolice again cordoned off theentire area while police personswere already put in place toavoid any accident by human/animal interface where theammunition was unearthed.

Today morning at 10:45 amafter following proper StandardOperating Procedure (SOP), allthe shells were destroyed jointlyby Army and Police and therewas no damage to life and prop-erty during the whole process.

premises of CFA’s of M/SAmbuja Cement Ltd atKunjwani, M/s ACC Ltd atNarwal and M/s JK Wall Putty atTrikuta Nagar Extension andimposed fine of Rs.50,000 oneach company for not passing onthe benefit of Rs 64 per bag ofCement weighing 50 kgs by low-ering the MRP. The teams alsoinspected the company outlets ofP Mark Edible oil at Ware Houseat Bikram Chowk, he added.

Singh also urged upon theExcise Department to consti-tute different teams for theinspection of various Godownsand retailers to put a check onthem so that they should notdeceive the consumers and passon the cost reduction benefit tothem as per actual. The teamsmust check whether the MRPhas been reduced by the tradersor not, he added.
