I have played enough baseball to know that when that ball is coming at high speed, there are only two things I can do. One is to face it and give it my best strike or pull back and let it go. Life is a little like that; it sometimes pitches us a mean ball. Our decision is what to do with the circumstances. Face them or ignore them. My heart grieves to see so much suf-fering and pain across our communities and particularly amongst our friends. We were never promised immunity from sadness. This is all the result of the original ‘fall’ back there in the Gar-den of Eden. Praise God however, the burden of life can be made a lot easier for us if we rely on Him and respond to His promise that He will never leave us or forsake us. I am continually encouraged by Psalm 139. It is one passage that gives me confidence that our loving Father knows us and loves us better than we could ever realise.

Verses 15 and 16 confirms that He was overseeing us pre-birth, creating us as we are for a specific purpose in this life, and that someday, probably sooner than we know, we will abide in perfection forever in Heaven and be surrounded by perfection. There are times when I wish I had a greater range of abilities or possessed certain talents, but on reflection I find that I am who I was created to be on this earth and for the purposes for which God designed me. So: “Thank you Jesus for who I am and for the situations I am in. You have purposed it for a reason and I know that if I remain faithful to you in this life I have a wonderful future awaiting me in Heaven once this life is over.”

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Christian apologist Ravi Zacharias who died on 18th June at his home in Atlanta, following a brief battle with sarcoma. He was 74. Ravi Zacharias spent the past 48 years commending the Christian faith and addressing life’s greatest existential questions of origin, meaning, morality and destiny with eloquence and grace Through his founding and leadership of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM), he launched a global team of nearly 100 Christian scholars and authors who continue to speak, resource, train and address the questions of millions around the world. Ravi Zacharias is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margie.

It has become increasingly difficult for us to provide copies of programs requested by our listeners. With postage costs and logistics with the copying, another alternative is to get them from the program providers directly. Some have the programs for free to listen on the internet. Rhema Newcastle have a website called “Rhema Catch Up” where they have their programs available for those who want to listen again. I am encouraged when I read of the early New Testament church, and how these Christians changed the world. They were radical disciples of Jesus who continued to do and say what their Master did and said, as they were led and empowered by the Holy Spirit. They didn’t just go along to a weekly service at church, they were church. Everyone used the gifts God gave them to build each other up and encourage each other to stand firm, even in times of trial and persecution. The result was the church grew, both numerically and spiritually. Just like with our electronic devices we have added much over the years. I think that is what has to the church over 2000 years. I wonder if Paul the apostle were to visit our churches: Would he recognise this as the body of Christ that he gave his life serving?

FACTORY RESET From the Station Manager

Recently I was able to attend the Australia Christian Media and Arts Conference (online of course). There were some interesting observations about what God is doing in these days of social isolation. The majority of speakers were very positive about these times. One per-son made this observation about the church: “The tragedy of this situation will be if churches just go back to whatever they were doing before this pandemic”. On many of our electronic devices, in the settings is an option “Restore Factory Settings”. This will delete all the extra “stuff” we have added over the years and get the device back to the way it was at the start. If you are a regular morning break-fast listener to Rhema FM, you would hear just after 7.30am the morning devotions. Currently, I am going through the book of Acts using “The Message” translation.
