PrivacyResidents are afforded privacy to live their lives with the least interference. Residents may be offered keys to their bedroom.

DignityWhere personal care is required residents are assisted in privacy in a way which minimises their exposure and vulnerability — utilising appropriate lifting and handling equipment and care aids. Residents are approached and communicated with a manner which optimises their ability to understand.

IndependenceResidents are equipped, encouraged and assisted to carry out as much as possible for themselves. When they are unable to carry out a particular task or function, they are

encouraged to be involved in the management of that task.

ChoicesResidents are given as many choices as possible in all aspects of their life and the service offered to them.

RespectAll residents are addressed in their preferred manner. Residents are supported and provided with services which respect their beliefs and their rights.

FulfilmentThe environment, facilities and services offered enable and promote the residents’ ability and opportunity to fulfil all aspects of their life and ambitions — both long standing and new.

Our care philosophy

To Gold Care Homes, each resident is an individual. Each has his or her own life story. They have their own preferences and their own way of living the latter years of their life. In understanding that, we tailor every resident’s care plan entirely around their specific requirements, recognising where we can provide for their preferences, lifestyles and routines.

Foremost our care philosophy is seeing the person for who they are, not their age or condition. Everything we try to do is done with a genuinely caring, person-centred approach.

Person-centred care means

; Working together with you and whomever else you choose (family, friends, neighbours)

; Offering you choices about when, where, and how you get your supports - and honour those choices

; Help you plan better for the present and the future

; Help you stay healthy and safe

; Help you get involved with groups, organisations and social activities that interest you

“Enhance the lives of residents

in our care by bringing

them joy, happiness

and fulfilment”

Trained staff

We invest in our staff at the start of their journey with Gold Care Homes through the induction process. New staff within the Care Home are inducted during their first week, meeting Care Certificate Standards as set out by the Care Standards Act. This is undertaken by a senior member of staff as well as shadowing an experienced colleague with support from Unit Leaders and the Care Home Managers. This gives our staff the confidence and technical skills to provide the best care possible to our residents.

All our staff attend mandatory training. Staff who meet the criteria are encouraged to complete a QCF qualification which will lead to a Diploma qualification. Staff are evaluated on a regular basis through support, supervision and working towards their objectives through appraisals.

Well maintained home environment

All areas of our home are kept clean, comfortable and up to date. We continually review our properties to maintain high standards, so that they remain safe and ‘homely’. Outside areas of our care home including beautiful flower beds, secluded gardens, lawns and patio areas are kept perfect for a stroll, or simply sitting on the bench, listening to the birds and enjoying the freshness of nature.

Social and leisure lifestyle

We believe that social and leisure aspects of life are important parts of an individual’s care. We promote and practice maximum independence where possible and most importantly, help our residents to have a fulfiling experience.

Creating and embracing community

All our residents’ friends and family members are welcome to join in any activities organized by the dedicated care home activity coordinator/s. We have no restrictions at all when it comes to visiting and giving support to your loved ones. We encourage this kind of activity making our residents life more meaningful and enjoyable.

What brings back good memories more than the smell of your favourite food? Science shows that memory and smell are very much connected and we believe that good healthy food doesn’t just nurture the body but provides sustenance for the soul. Taste, smell and the routine of eating is considered a gratifying experience; one that we like to repeat as often as we can. At Gold Care Homes, we endeavour to make food a daily pleasure for our residents while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and nutritional value.

Homemade, nutritional food plays an important part in maintaining the healthy lifestyle and well-being of our residents. We ensure all dietary requirements are adhered to as devised in the care plan of each resident.

This is an essential part of the care we provide and a fundamental part of person-centred care.

We use an industry recognised, menu planning frame work, which has been developed specifically for the elderly. All recipes meet the nutritional needs of our residents whilst ensuring flexibility to suit personal taste.

We encourage residents to eat well and enjoy their food in a social environment such as communal lounges and dining areas accompanied by like-minded residents and staff.

We take pride that our Chefs and Kitchen Assistants have been trained for food safety and personal hygiene to achieve the best standards in cooking.

How do I arrange visit?

We have an open door policy, so you are welcome to pop into our home at any time. However, we recommend you avoid visiting during main meal times as these can be very busy. If you would like to speak to the home manager when you visit, you can make an appointment by calling us first. If you are unable to visit at this stage, perhaps because you are in hospital, a senior member of staff team could visit you to discuss your application and, if appropriate, make an appointment for to visit our home at your convenience.

How soon can I move in?

This depends on the availability of rooms in the home, If, having visited the home and having met everyone concerned, we jointly agree that we can meet your requirements; arrangements will be made for you to join us for a trial stay.

Can I bring my pet with me?

Most of Gold Care Homes are pet friendly and welcome pets but we advise you check with the manager when you call as this is usually left to the discretion of the other residents and the manager.

Can I voice my opinion?

Yes. We encourage all our residents to voice their opinions. We hold regular resident meetings and at various times you may be asked to complete questionnaires. We are always keen to hear your ideas and

suggestions as to how we can improve the service we provide. Your feedback on these is addressed and communicated back in form of actions as and where applicable.

How can I make a complaint?

If you are unhappy with any services provided, staff or any aspect of living in the home please do bring this to the Manager’s attention.

There is also a comprehensive complaints procedure which is detailed in the Licence Agreement.

Do remember that it is your right to complain, or raise your concerns about anything that happens in the home. If you don’t tell us we won’t know will not be able to put it right so please feel free to approach the Manager or any senior member of the team if there is a problem.

Freedom to personalise my room?

Yes but it varies from resident to resident. For those on short-term respite are allowed to bring a few pieces and small belongings with them. For those coming to stay with us for a long term, we can work with you to personalise the room to your liking. We ensure that your rooms provide a safe and pleasant environment for you. There are on-site lockers to keep small valuables safe for you. We don’t recommend keeping money in your room. Your room is your personal space. Staff and visitors will not enter your room unless invited by you. Domestic staff will negotiate with you a convenient time to clean your room. However, it has to be recognised that some people have a legal right to inspect any part of a residential care home.
