it is important to keep parents informed
about classes and grades for next year.
Over the last month or so, we’ve been busy
planning for classes next year. We will have
another class next year due to an increase
in our overall enrolment. We expect demand
for places to continue over the holiday
period.
A reminder once again that if your children
are not going to be at Mansfield Primary
School in 2013, please make sure you advise
the office. Enrolments determine funding,
so every student enrolled makes a big
difference to our overall funding levels.
Due to the increasing enrolment we will
have another grade, which means a number
of classes will also change location. Next
year, the Year 5 & 6 students will be in the
current Year 1/2, 2, 4 & 4/5 classrooms.
There will be two straight grade 5’s and 6’s.
We have a new graduate teacher who will
commence at MPS at the beginning of the
year as well.

BUSHDANCE – Huge success
On behalf of the School Council we sincerely
appreciate everyone who made the effort to
come along and support our Bush Dance last
Friday night.
This was our first attempt this year at a
whole school community “get together” and
it was so pleasing to see in excess of 250
plus parents and children having fun and
generally enjoying the night. We really
appreciate the hard work and planning that
went into making the night such a success.
Everyone who helped was just amazing.

PARENT HELPERS MORNING TEA
Each year we rely on a virtual army of volunteers to
assist us with all manner of activities here at school. In
recognition of our fantastic group of volunteers, we hold a
morning tea to celebrate your work.
If you have volunteered, or just helped out at school this
year, you are cordially invited to come along to morning
tea, next week on Wednesday, December 5th commencing
at 10:30a.m. Recess will be for the full hour on that day
to allow adequate time for teachers and volunteers to
meet and celebrate another year’s work.
Year 5 / 6 Musical
Planning and practice for the Year 5/6 musical is nearing
completion with our students very much looking forward to
next week’s performance. Most tickets have already been
allocated, but if you still want a seat at one of the
performances, please see Mrs Sketcher.
Parenting Ideas.
This week’s Parenting Ideas publication is about being in the
moment for your children. It talks about being emotionally
ready and prepared for the right response. With Christmas
on our doorstep, sometimes things can get quite pressured
and children can become quite anxious. If you stop and think,
Christmas and New Year are times of great uncertainty for
children. Being “in the moment” for them when they need you
is vital.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the Parenting Ideas articles
throughout the year and as I’ve said on many occasions, there
is a no more rewarding task, than being a good parent.

BOOK CLUB
Scholastic Book Club Issue 8 has been sent
home with your child today. Any orders are due
to be returned to school by Friday 7th December. Please
return any orders to the book club boxes located outside the
school library by this date. If you are paying by cheque
please make the payment out to Mansfield Primary School.
No late orders can be accepted. This will be our last book
club issue for 2012.
LIBRARY BOOKS
Our wonderful volunteer Shirley Curtis is asking for all
library books to be returned to the school. Returned books
will then be included in the library stock take. Thanking you
in anticipation.
UNIFORM SHOP
Kathy Smith has offered to open the uniform shop the week
before school commences on Thursday 24th January between
10.30am to 12.30pm. Please make a note in your diary for this
date.
EDUCATION MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE (EMA)
CHANGES
As many of you are aware, the State Government has
implemented some major changes to the Education
Maintenance Allowance effective 2013.
A summary of these changes are as follows:
The eligibility criteria for EMA has not changed, ie: a
valid Health Care Care or Pension Card on 29 January
2013.
In 2012 parents received a total of $235.00 per child
with half being paid directly to the school. In 2013
the parent portion will be $150.00 and $200.00 for
eligible Prep students.
The EMA application form will have 3 payment options;
Paid directly into your own bank account
Paid directly into the school’s bank account
Paid by cheque
Our recommendation is to have the EMA paid directly
into the school’s bank account. This will allow the EMA
to assist with the cost of your child’s Essential
Education Items.
The School Start Bonus for Prep students has been
abolished.
EMA application forms are now available at the school office.
LOST PROPERTY
The lost property box is once again overflowing with items
that have no home. Please ensure you check these items
before the end of the school year. Any unclaimed items will
go to a local opportunity shop over the x-mas break.

FAMILY BUSH DANCE REPORT WHAT A GREAT NIGHT!!! Thankyou to everyone who
came to the bush dance and made it such a success. It was
just fantastic to see all the children rush to the dance floor
when the band started playing and then to watch (and dance
with) them as they heeled and toed and dosey doh-ed.
About 250 people turned up last Friday night and everyone
contributed in their own way to make it a really special
night for the Mansfield Primary community. A HUGE
thankyou has to go to Rachel N and Nicola B for organising
the silent auction which raised over $1000 and to all the
businesses who donated the wonderful prizes. Kristy G,
Georgie C, Kate E, Rach G and Sarah L worked hard in the
kitchen with many others (you know who you are xxx)
making all those gorgeous slices, cakes and deserts that
were inhaled by the kids and adults alike. Liz and Pete
Scales and Rick Lindsay set up all day Friday and Neil Allen
got us the lights and pulled it all down again with Mr V who
was a brilliant dogs-body all day (and the next). Mrs
Sketcher and Mr MacMunn deserve a big round of applause
for teaching the kids the dances and getting them enthused
and Lisa, Joan and Shirley did all the difficult ticket and
money stuff in the office. The decorative haybales came
from Miss Comerford's dad and the plants on the tables
from Rob and Prue at Snowgum nursery. There are so many
people to thank -someone may have been left out - but
really it was a great group effort with people stepping in
whenever they were needed, and a lot of the kids keen to
lend a hand when ever possible. The packup was easy peasy
with everyone helping on the night. THANKYOU!! Lets do it
again sometime!!?!

Holiday and Festival Asthma Trigger Warning The upcoming holiday season and festivities planned during Term 4 and throughout the summer holidays may
mean that your child is exposed to new triggers for their asthma. It is important for parents and carers, and
children themselves, to be aware of changes to their environment and the activities that may impact on their asthma.
Christmas trees, both real and artificial could be triggers for people with asthma. Artificial trees may be quite dusty after being stored away, while both real and artificial trees may harbour mould. It is important to ensure that
artificial trees are cleaned appropriately and that care is taken to select real trees that do not produce wind-borne
pollen. All tree and other decorations should cleaned and free from dust and mould when used at home. Scented candles, room deodorisers and air fresheners may also trigger asthma in those susceptible to perfumes,
and care should be taken when purchasing these and other scented items at home. Lastly, the added pressures of the year drawing to a close can cause stress and anxiety for many people, potentially
triggering asthma attacks. It is important to consider ways that the whole family can enjoy the holidays and feel safe happy and comfortable.
Happy Holidays from The Asthma Foundation of Victoria.
