We realise that 2 year olds and 12 year olds need to be treated very differently, and so Mantis Kids will cater to children over 8 and we’ve added a new size 12+ for those hard-to-define teenage years. Mantis Mini retains all the fun, colours and younger age styling for children as young as 2 to 7 years; seamlessly blending in with Babybugz – Europe’s biggest imprintable babywear brand for newborns and toddlers.

However, it’s not just the kids we are focusing on! Our Mantis range for men and women has had some special attention. This is now our biggest collection ever with 10 new styles added including our new additions to our signature fashion forward, premium Superstar range.

Our journey to sustainability continues and I’m very excited at the launch of our TENCEL® “Black Label” styles – perfect examples of “Well Made” clothing. They combine beautiful drape, handfeel, printability, modern cuts with one of the most environmentally friendly fibres available. TENCEL® is made using wood pulp, but unlike viscose or Bamboo, manufacturing is done in a “closed loop” so the whole process is sustainable, not just the fibre. And we are introducing more styles made from organic cotton this year too.

I’m enjoying spending more time personally visiting the factories we partner with, ensuring mutual understanding and long term commitments from both sides. I believe that when we share our hearts and minds with our supply partners, we benefit a lot more than simply relying on social audits and certificates. We can then be confident of our promise to deliver sustainable clothing to our customers.

We continue to put back in the communities where we work and projects are either underway or ready to launch in Tanzania and Pakistan.

For us “Well Made” clothing is a sum of many parts; from great fabrics and design, to ensuring that our garments are produced responsibly, without compromise to the people making them, or to the environment. We take certification seriously and all the various standards we adhere to offer assurance to our customers about our ethical and environmental compliance. Yet we go beyond that and insist on long-term and personal relationships with our suppliers to make sure everyone involved really does care about making “Well Made” clothing.

• We work with only reputable manufacturers; each with a clear ethical and social policy with relevant and recognised certifications that are in line with our own Well Made ethos and Code of Conduct.

• We only work with mills who have a suitable and effective effluent treatment plant (ETP) to ensure that the water used in the wet processing/ dyeing stages of our production processes is safe to be put back into the environment.

• In order to ensure that our garments are kind to skin and with no potentially harmful dyes or chemicals used during manufacture, we insist that all our fabrics are certified to Oeko-tex® Standard 100, with all babywear fabric holding class 1 certification.

• We ensure we know where the cotton used in the manufacture of all Mantis World garments comes from, and, in keeping with our ethical policy regarding the use of child or forced labour, continue our pledge not to use Uzbek cotton.

Every country is different and each of our manufacturing partners provides different benefits depending on local needs. These can range from:

The Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) – a non-profit organisation dedicated to the improvement of working conditions in the supply chain, with factories audited against the BSCI base code. Mantis World works with factories that are BSCI compliant or equivalent as an acceptable level of compliance.

Of the common social standards, the content of the WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Apparel Production ) code of conduct is the weakest and least strict on several issues. Although better than no code at all, Mantis World will only work with WRAP approved factories if they have a clear plan to move onto more robust standards within a year.

Mantis World is proud to be a member supporting the work of Textile Exchange (TE). TE (formerly Organic Exchange) is a non-profit organisation operating internationally and is committed to the responsible expansion of textile sustainability across the global textile value chain.

We are proud to be a Founding Partner of the Fellowship 500 as organised by the Ethical Fashion Forum and which brings together 500 pioneers in the ethical fashion industry to offer inspiration and support.

Sedex, the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange, is a not for profit membership organisation for businesses committed to continuous improvement of the ethical and responsible practices in their supply chain. Mantis Worlds membership of Sedex is a sign of our willingness to share information and to utilise this information to help manage and improve these standards.

Mantis World’s key manufacturers work with the SA8000® standard. The SA8000 Standard, established by SAI and one of the world’s pre-eminent social standards, is a tool for implementing international labour standards to protect workers along each step of the supply chain. Mantis World encourage all suppliers to attain SA8000 or equivalent.

All our fabrics are tested and verified using the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 assures that no harmful substances or dyes are used at any stage of production or left as a residue on the fabric. Our Babywear also holds ‘Class 1’ certification verifying that it has passed the most stringent safety tests.

The GOTS® (Global Organic Textile Standard) is a guarantee of the organic status of textiles; from the harvesting of raw cotton to dispatch of the finished garments whilst ensuring all is done in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.

Tencel® by Lenzing is a modern, sustainable fibre. Of botanic origin (wood pulp from managed forests) the fibre’s patented closed-loop production method is eco friendly. JUST A LOGO

Most of our products now feature a tear-off back neck label featuring size and style information only. In addition to offering customers a truly brand-free garment, these can easily be removed to give an area free for decoration.

We’re in the process of changing all other back neck labels to this tear off style, but in the meantime have added the above icon to those styles you can be assured will have only the tear off label format.

Full information on label types, including tear off and unbranded (single sewn-in woven size tab) across the range is available if required.

You can identify all styles that are guaranteed to have a tear off label by looking for the above “T” icon on the relevant product page.

This is usually found in the side seam of the garment and shows the fibre composition, which is a legal requirement, together with the country of manufacture and also the origin of the cotton fibre.

There’s been a change in requirements regarding fibre composition so you will start seeing all 23 languages of the EU contained on the label.

We recommend that the garment is washed according to the care symbols and information. Should you wish any further information on what these mean, do let us know.

We are legally obligated to detail our company name and address somewhere on the garment – but have positioned this at the edge of the care label so it can be easily cut off whilst leaving all other information intact.
