Airbag systemThe airbag system c onsists of several

    separate systems.

    Front airbag system

The front airbag system will be triggered inthe event of a serious accident involving a

frontal impact and forms safety cushionsfor the driver and front passenger.

The forward movement of the d river andfront passenger is checked and the risk of

injuries to the upper body and head arethereby substantially reduced.

Side airbag system 3The side airbag system triggers when a

side-on collision occurs and provides a

safety barrier for the driver and/or frontpassenger in the respective front doorarea. This reduces th e risk of injury to the

upper body considera bly, in the e vent of aside-impact.

Curtain airbag system 3The curtain airbag system triggers in the

event of a side-on collision and provides a

safety barrier in the head area on therespective side of the vehicle. This reducesthe risk of injury to the head considerably in

the event of a side-on collision.

    6 Airbag systems 3 see page 8 1.

Active head restraints 3 at frontseatsIn the event of a rear-impact, the activehead restraints tilt forwards a little. The

head is more effectively supported by thehead restraint and the danger of injuries

caused by whiplash in the neck area isreduced.

Active head restraints are identified by thelettering ACTIVE on the head restraint

    guide sleeves.

    6 Head restraints see p age 55.
