CHARGING
Connect the supplied standard USB cable to the camera and to a USB, 5V DC power source (wall charger, PC or external power bank). When the yellow LED turns on, press the Power button for about 2 seconds to turn the camera Off so it doesn’t drain power. While charging, the green LED will be on. It will turn off when the battery is fully charged. Charging takes about 2 hours for a fully discharged battery with the camera turned off and connected to an external USB charger. For optimum results, the charging voltage should be +5V under load. Only use quality chargers capable of supplying 1000mA (1A) and a stable voltage of at least 5V. A new and fully charged battery will record about 90 minutes of 1080p 60 fps videos.
MEMORY CARD
Insert into the memory slot a microSDHC or microSDXC card with a class rating of 10 or above. The card may be formatted as FAT32 or exFAT. Cards with a capacity of up to 400GB have been tested. But keep in mind that large-capacity cards formatted with FAT32 will drastically increase the camera’s boot time. For example, it may take up to 15 seconds or more for the camera to boot with a 400GB card formatted with FAT32. There is virtually no start-up delay when using a 32GB card. (If you want to format the card in the camera, see In-Camera Formatting below.)
POWER UP
Press the Power button for 1-2 seconds until the red, yellow and blue LED indicators start flashing simultaneously with three “di” sounds. When the yellow LED indicator is steady, the camera is in standby mode. To turn off the camera, press the Power button for 2-3 seconds until the red, yellow and blue LED indicators twinkle simultaneously with five “di” sounds. Camera is now off.

START/STOP VIDEO RECORDING
With the camera in standby mode, press the shutter button to start recording. Press it to stop recording. The date/time setting will likely be incorrect until you set up the camera from your computer. See below.
SWITCHING MODES TO TAKE A PHOTO
The mode button lets you switch between different modes (indicated by different colors on the LED ring around the power button) depending on what you want to do. Each button press advances the camera to the next mode. From standby mode, press the mode button until the circular LED changes from yellow and cycles past blue to get to red to indicate Photo Mode. Press the shutter button to snap a photo. You’ll hear a click and the LED will blink. To turn off Photo mode, you can either turn off the camera or press the Mode button until the circular LED is back to yellow.
VIDEO MODE 1 OR 2
The yellow standby mode puts the camera in its default (1080p) video recording mode, so that when you press the shutter button, the camera starts recording. This is Video Mode 1. But if you press the mode button first, the ring will change to blue, indicating a second video resolution/frame rate you can preset. This is Video Mode 2. To configure the video mode and other settings, see the section about the mSetup software below.
page 7
2 | introduction
INSTALL THE COMPUTER SOFTWARE
On a Windows computer you should use the program mSetup.exe to modify the camera’s configuration or format the SD card. mSetup communicates directly with the camera and makes configuring the camera simple. To download the software, go to:
http://support.spytecinc.com/help/mobius-maxi---msetup
Unzip (extract) the file and load the software.
ATTACHING THE CAMERA TO THE PC
Make sure a card is inserted and the camera is turned off. Use the included USB cable to connect the camera as an external disk drive. Always connect the camera directly to the PC. Do not use a USB hub. You cannot record video or photos when the camera is connected to the PC as an external drive.

BASIC SETTINGS
From the Basic Settings screen, you can automatically sync the computer’s date and time to the camera. You can also set the date format and whether you want the image stamp (date and time or date only) to be superimposed on content. Other settings include whether you want the recording indicator to light up (the default is on) and if you want the camera to power off in standby after a certain interval of non-use (the default is 30 seconds).
Two settings of special interest to people using the Mobius Maxi as a dash cam are Rotate Image and Auto Record External Power. When the camera is mounted upside down (with the buttons pointed toward the ground) in a vehicle, you’ll want to select Inverted, so you’ll be able to watch the video without standing on your head. Don’t choose the Auto setting. When the camera is powered from a cigarette lighter, you can have it automatically start recording when you turn on the ignition.

MISCELLANEOUS SETTINGS
Used in a stationary position for surveillance, the camera can be set to only record when it detects motion. See “Motion Detection” below. If you don’t want to alert anyone that the camera is being deployed, you can also turn off the beeper. If you purchase an external microphone for the camera, you should enable its setting. The Gravity Sensor (G-sensor) has multiple uses. First, turning it on allows the camera to record content upright even when used upside down. Also, the G-sensor should be enabled to detect an impact while recording video. Loop Recording must be enabled if the G-Sensor is also enabled. The file will be automatically set to Read-Only and moved to the Locked folder on the memory card, so it won’t be erased by loop recording.
page 10
SETTING VIDEO MODES
Though the camera ships from the factory ready to record 1920 x 1080p video at 60 frames per second, you can choose alternative resolutions and frame rates. See screen image (right) or the specifications table (at the end of the manual). Continuous recordings are normally saved as contiguous, 3-minute files, but the clip length can be changed to 1-, 5-, 10- or 15-minutes or beyond.
You can also set the recording level (the default is medium), turn on image stabilization and loop recording and opt that videos be saved as MOV rather than MP4 files.

page 11
PHOTO MODE
You can take photographs at one of five resolutions. See screen image (right) or the specifications table (at the end of the manual). The default is 2704 x 1524. You can also take time-lapse photos at one of five intervals, set the duration for the time-lapse photo taking, set a photo burst, and delay the shutter so you can get in the picture.

page 12
ADVANCED IMAGE SETTINGS
Enables you to tweak such settings as the picture sharpness, exposure, saturation and white balance. (Screen image not shown.) See “Auto Exposure and White Balance Locks” below.
AUTO EXPOSURE AND WHITE BALANCE LOCKS
The Auto Exposure Lock (AEL) and Auto White Balance Lock (AWBL) are advanced functions whose functionality is disabled by default. You must enable one or both from the Advanced Settings menu while the camera is connected to your computer. AWBL functionality requires that the White Balance parameter be set to ‘Auto’. AE/AWB can be locked while the camera is either in standby mode or recording mode.
To turn on AEL/AWBL point the camera at the object you want to correctly expose and then set the lock as follows:
• If the camera is in Standby mode or recording, briefly press the Power button until an additional LED (yellow or blue, depending on which mode the camera is in) turns on. This indicates that AEL and/or AWBL is turned on.
• If the camera is in Standby mode or recording, briefly press the Power button until the additional LED (yellow or blue, depending on which mode the camera is in) turns off. This indicates that AEL and/or AWBL has been turned off.
• AEL/AWBL will remain active until they are manually turned off, another Mode is selected, or you turn off the camera.
• An additional icon will be displayed on the external monitor if connected and the On-Screen Display (OSD) is turned on.

LED STATUS INDICATORS
Expect to see these indicators when the camera is not connected to a computer:steady yellow - The camera is in Video Mode 1 and on standby.slowly flashing yellow (1 sec. on, 1 sec. off ) - The camera is in Video Mode 1 and is recording video. The Video Recording indicator (see Basic Settings) must be on.steady blue - The camera is in Video Mode or Playback Mode (if an A/V cable is connected) and on standby.slowly flashing blue - The camera is in Video Mode 2 and recording video. The Video Recording indicator must be on.steady red - The camera is in Photo Mode.one red/yellow flash - The camera has taken a picture.steady blue and yellow (together) - The camera is in Mode 1 or Mode 2 with AE Lock and/or AWB Lock turned on. See “Auto Exposure and White Balance Locks” above.slowly flashing blue and yellow (together) - The camera is recording in Mode 1 or Mode 2 with AE Lock and/or AWB Lock turned on. See “Auto Exposure and White Balance Locks” above.slowly flashing yellow and red (together) - The camera is recording in Mode 1 without recording sound. slowly flashing blue and red (together) - The camera is recording in Mode 2 without recording sound. steady green - The battery is charging.
In some cases, three LEDs will be on or blinking at the same time, for example AE/AWB lock together with audio recording turned off. Since the physical LEDs are not visible, it will be very difficult to see which LEDs are turned on in these cases. If both the red and blue LEDs are on at the same time, the result will appear as purple.
Rear LED: If the camera hasn’t been changed from the default to show the recording Indicator, then the rear LED will normally blink in sequence with the main LED while recording or in standby mode.

VIDEO OUTPUT TO A TV
The Video-Out format parameter can be set to ‘Normal’ 16:9 or ‘Full Screen’. If set to ‘Normal’, the Video-Out image will be shown in its native 16:9 ratio. Some monitors will show black bars top and bottom. If set to ‘Full Screen’, the Video-Out image will be shown zoomed with the sides cropped from 16:9 to 4:3. How the image appears on the monitor will also depend on how the monitor handles the video signal. This parameter may also be set (and saved) during Video-Out preview as follows:
• Make sure the image is visible on the monitor.
• Double-click the power button to toggle the output between normal and full screen.
MOTION DETECTION
Motion Detection only works in video modes. It does not function in Photo Mode. When Motion Detection is enabled, the Power-Off Standby timeout setting will be ignored. The camera will, therefore, not turn off unless there is no power left to keep the camera running, the memory card is full, or the camera is manually turned off.
When Motion is detected, the camera will start recording and the selected Motion Timeout counter will be started. If no further motion is detected by the time the counter runs out, the camera will save the recording and return to standby mode where it will wait for further motion to be detected. If motion is detected while recording, the timeout counter will be reset to the selected timeout.
The camera will continue recording until no more motion is detected and the timeout counter runs out, the 4GB file size limit is reached, or the memory card is full. When the 4GB file size limit is reached, the current recording will be saved and a new one will be started. There will be a 3-second gap between clips.

page 15
IMAGE STABILIZER
Image Stabilization can help reduce jitter in recorded video. However, the results will vary depending on the amount of camera movement and scene. Under normal conditions, it is not recommended to enable Image Stabilization.
The Time Stamp will not be shown correctly when recording videos with Image Stabilization enabled. Always disable the Time Stamp when using Image Stabilization. Likewise, Image Stabilization will not work for videos recorded in 2.7K or 4K. It should be disabled.
PROTECTING A RECORDING IN PROGRESS
The current clip can be write-protected by quickly pressing the Mode button while the camera is recording. The camera must have loop recording enabled for this function to work. This will set the file’s read-only attribute which will prevent the current recording from being deleted. The video clip will be moved to the card’s locked folder. (Formatting the card will delete all files, including ones you’ve protected.)

IN-CAMERA FORMATTING
The camera contains a built-in formatter, which is one of several ways to format a microSD card.1. Disconnect the camera and ensure it is turned off.2. Turn on the camera and wait until it is in one of the Standby modes (steady yellow, blue
or red LED).3. If the camera was set to auto-record, press the Shutter button to stop the recording.4. Press and hold down the Shutter button. Do not release the button.5. Very quickly press the Mode button four times.6. If the LEDs don’t start to blink, release the buttons and start over again at Step #4.7. The LEDs will blink very quickly while the card is being formatted.8. Release the Mode and Shutter buttons once the LEDs start to blink (see above).9. The camera will return to Standby mode when formatting is finished.
Note: Using in-camera formatting, a card over 32GB will be formatted in exFAT. Otherwise, it’s formatted in FAT32.

LIVE WEBCAM MODE
Connect the camera to your Windows PC. The camera will appear as a removable disk. Lightly press the shutter button. The camera will disappear as a removable disk. If this is the first time connecting the camera to the PC, the operating system will attempt to install the iCatch drivers. This may take a few minutes. You can check to see if “Mobius” is listed under your Imaging devices in the Windows Device Manager. Use the PC-connected Mobius Maxi with such programs as Facebook Live or Skype. Note: camera functionality may vary among Windows versions.

TROUBLESHOOTING
The camera won’t power off.Hold a pen or paper clip pressed into the recessed reset button until the LED returns to standby mode or shuts off.
The camera won’t power on.The battery needs to be charged (making sure that the USB cable is properly connected on both ends) or the firmware has locked up. It the latter, press the reset button as above.
The camera turns on or a recording is in progress when the rear LED continuously blinks very quickly. The battery is nearly depleted and must be recharged.
When the camera turns on, the top LEDs blink (blue and yellow or blue, red and yellow) and the rear LED blinks rapidly 20 times. It then turns off. There is no microSD card inserted or the card is not making proper contact. Insert the card and/or clean the contacts.
Trying to record a photo or take a photo is interrupted by the yellow and blue LEDs blinking slowly about four times. The blinking rate then increases and the camera turns off.The card is either full (and loop recording is not turned on) or the card needs to be reformatted.

page 19
The camera seems to run normally but only records very short clips and may turn off.
• The battery may not be charged. Charge the battery for about 2 hours until the green LED turns off.
• The battery is too cold to provide the power needed to record video. Keep the battery warm before using the camera in cold temperatures (around freezing and below).
• The card used is not compatible with the camera. Use class 10 cards for best results.
Playback is erratic or stutters or the playback colors are psychedelic or the video flashes or has corrupted blocks.
• Always first copy the video file from the memory card to your hard drive.
• Check that your PC or graphics card is powerful enough to play back the video especially when you’ve recorded at the highest resolution or frame rate.
• Check that you have enough memory installed in your PC.
• Use VLC Media Player or MPC-HC (Media Player Classic - Home Cinema). Windows Media Player often chokes on underpowered machines.
The camera records video with a different frame rate and/or resolution than defined by the parameter settings. The card’s class rating is too low. If the firmware detects that the card is too slow (class rating too low), it will decrease the recording speed and/or resolution.
The camera functions normally, but the video is completely black.Make sure the lens cap is removed.

The camera functions normally, but no sound is recorded.Make sure the audio has not been set to Off in the Video Modes configuration. (See above.) The red LED will be shown together with the yellow or blue LED if the sound has been muted. Also make sure the External Microphone parameter is set to ‘Disable’.
There is a distinctive buzzing or clicking noise when videos are played back.Only use quality microSD cards with a class rating of 10 or greater. Low-quality cards can draw excessive current which may result in electrical noise in the recording.
Can the camera transfer files to a Macintosh computer? The camera uses a general USB driver, so it should connect to Macs as well as Windows.
