EDID.Whatisitandwhatisitusedfor?Under normal circumstances, a source device (digital and analog) will require information about aconnecteddevice/display toassesswhat resolutionsand features areavailable. The source can thencater its output to send only resolutions and features that are compatible with the attacheddevice/display.ThisinformationiscalledEDID(ExtendedDisplayInformationData)andasourcedevicecanonlyacceptandreadoneEDIDfromaconnecteddevice/display.Likewise,thesourceanonlyoutputoneresolutionforusebyaconnecteddevice/display.WhyisEDIDsoimportantwiththeHDMIMatrix?TheMatrix is complexpieceof technology that replicatesand switchesbetweenmultiple inputsandoutputs. Each connected sourcedevicewill requireoneEDID to read. EDIDmanagement is carefullyhandledbyHDMIMatrixtoprovideasingleEDIDforeachsourcetoread.WhatoptionsdoIhavetomanagetheEDIDintheHDMIMatrix?First,itisimportanttonotethateachsourcedevicecanonlyoutputonevideo/audiosignaltype.Thisincludes resolutions and timings. When multiple devices/displays are used, such as with the HDMIMatrix,itisimportanttousedevices/displaysthathavesimilarorcompatibleresolutions/features.Thiswillensurethatthesinglevideo/audiosignalproducedbythesourcedevice isacceptedbyallof theconnectedoutputdevices/displays.Theuserhastheoption,throughtheEDIDmanagementwindow,tochoosehowtheunitwillmanagetheEDIDfrommultipleHDMIdevices/displays.Thereforetheuserhassomecontrolover the resolutions/features that the sourcedeviceswilloutput.TheHDMIMatrix forhas a multiple EDIDmanagement modes that will control how the EDID information frommultipledevices/displaysarecombined,ignored,androuted.

AtMatrixend:Insertthe3.5mmjacksoftheIRTXEmittersincludedwiththeunitintotheIRTXEmitterportsattherearofthematrixaccordingtoinput.TheIRsignalisaddedtotheHDMIoftheinputdeviceso,forexample,iftheuseriswatchingBlu-rayoninput1,theIRsignalwillbedirectedthroughtheIRTX1sockettocontrolthedevice. AseachIRTXportisallocatedtoanindividualHDMIinputport,iftheuserisunabletoestablishIRcontrolofthedevice,careshouldbetakentocheckfirstly,thattheIRemitterandHDMIinputportsmatch(Input1-TX1,Input2-TX2etc.)withplugssecuredincorrectports,andsecondly,thattheIRTXemittersensorsarefirmlyattacheddirectlytothefrontofinputsandcoveringinfraredsensorwindowsofthesourcedevices.Somelateradjustmentmaybeneededtothelocationofthesensortoachievethebestperformanceresults-sometimesmovingthesensortodifferentareasonthesourcecanimproveIRperformance.NOTE:Infraredreceivingareasofdevicescanbelocatedbyshiningaflashlightontothefrontofthedevice–thesensorshouldbeabletobeseenthroughtheplasticasasmall,roundobjectinside.Insert3.5mmjacksofIRRXreceiversintoRXports,makingsurethereceiversthemselvesareplacedinclearviewtoreceiveaninfraredsignalfromtheremotehandsetusedtocontrolthedisplayoutputs.
