Barrenjoey Peninsula Week of Golf

Barrenjoey Week of Golf held annually at 7 Clubs on the Peninsula during 2nd full week in February.

Run in 3 divisions – Played as two stroke rounds – except for Division 3 who play Stableford – (Monday and Tuesday)

thence teams on Thursday and Foursomes on Friday. Notification and advertising material sent to Clubs in October

of previous year. Online Registration

Week is run by a Committee made up of representatives of the 7 Clubs involved. Long Reef is a member Club and

we provide 3 representatives each year.

A Presentation Cocktail Party is held on the Thursday evening of the week at the host club – Costs for this evening

are met by the Barrenjoey Committee and they liaise directly with the Club CEO and caterer.

Normal Club Competitions run during this week except where your club is hosting.

Foursomes Champions are invited to play in NSW Foursomes Championship (November)

Fourball Knockout – How to play

Handicaps are applied by reducing the stroke handicaps of all players by the handicap of the low handicap player

who will then play off scratch. The other 3 players are then allowed the difference between the scratch player’s

handicap and their own handicap.

For example

Reduction in Handicaps

Once the draw is completed players may not change divisions even if there is a handicap change putting them into a

different division.


Ties

Playoff will be by sudden death with players playing together. This play off will occur at the conclusion of the final

round. Should a player leave the club before a play-off is arranged she will forfeit her right to be considered.If there

is a tie in the net, Golf Australia countback system will be used.

Player’s handicap at the start of play for first round is her handicap over the 36 hole net.

MATCH PLAY

Matches to be played on day set down in the Programme Book. In special circumstances and at the discretion of the

match Committee, the date of the Final may be altered. (In extreme circumstances consideration may be given to

the playing of a match on a different day, provided it can be played before the next round.)

All players must agree before any changes are made.

Late arrivals: If a player arrives at the starting point ready to play within five minutes of the starting time, in the

absence of circumstances which warrant waiving the penalty of disqualification as provided in Rule 5.3a, the penalty

for failure to start on time is loss of the first hole to be played in match play or two strokes in stroke play. Penalty for

lateness beyond five minutes is disqualification Rule 5.3a


Addendum

MCNICOL TROPHY

Mrs Wilma McNicol, now deceased, joined the Club in 1971. The photo of the golfer in the women’s lounge was

donated by her family. They also donated a sum of money to be invested for a Trophy in her memory. She was Club

Champion and served on the Women’s Committee for some years. The McNicol Trophy is for the four best Par

rounds during the season played on a Thursday.

In the event of ties a countback on last round will be used. This need not necessarily be the same round for each

person.

Long Reef women compete in the GNSW Grade competition.

The Club also fields:

These match play events are organised by the Northern District Pennant Association.

Host Club Captain does draw for events.

A Northern District Pennants Meeting is held annually in November.

The Women’s Captain, in consultation with the Pennant Convenor, is responsible for all team selections. The Club

will distribute to each Pennant representative a Code of Conduct

Veteran Women’s Premiership (Silver Trophy)

(Originally donated by Quality at Work Pty Ltd – Don/Bill and Sandra Gillies) and presented in their name.

Best Scratch Score over two rounds of Championship Stroke Play.

Must be a member of the Veteran Women Golfers Association and over 50 years of age.

WIEDERSEHN TROPHY

This trophy is for the six best net stroke rounds during the season. Miss Pip Wiedersehn, now deceased, joined Long

Reef in the 1970’s after retiring from work but ceased to play within a year because of bad health. She decided to

make a perpetual trophy donation to the women because she had gained such enjoyment form her short time

playing.

Six best net stroke rounds played during the season on a Thursday and including the three rounds of the Club

Championship, or the two qualifying rounds on alternate years.

In the event of ties a countback to be applied on last round included in the six best. This need not necessarily be the

same round for each person
