    1. GENERAL 1.1 Scope

    This specification aims at the definition of minimum design and manufacturing requirements for Standard or Project Company valves. Block valves installed on pipelines are not covered by this specification (see 03520.PIP.MEC.FUN). This specification applies to valves with the following ends: - threaded or socket welded (from ND " to 3"); - flanged or butt weld (from ND " and greater); - wafer type (butterfly, check and duo-check ND 2"). The Company Normalization restricts the use of threaded and socket welded ends up to ND 1"1/2. Though among the reference documents are listed some EN normative, referred to in some Data Sheets for valves not covered by other normative, this specification is applicable only in countries and to projects which do not apply the requirements of European Directive 97/23/CE (PED). In order to use this specification in Europe, it must be integrated with additional PED minimum requirements.

    2.2 Operative environment

    Data Sheets for Normalized valves consider the following factors: - maintainability (type Two / three pieces or top entry); - fluids aggressiveness (standard, corrosive, NACE); - design temperatures and design pressure; - fire resistance; - constructive features (ends, materials).

    2.3 Functional requirements 2.3.1 Manufacturing requirements

    Valves manufacturing shall be in accordance with the attached Data Sheets for Normalized valves and with the requirements of the codes indicated in 1.2. When the code does not cover a class rating, design shall comply with the manufacturers standard and the mentioned code, as far as applicable. In addition to what is requested in the Data Sheets for Normalized valves and in the above-mentioned codes, the following prescriptions shall be applied: - fanged ends shall be integral with the body; full penetration butt-

    welded flanges shall be allowed only if specified in the relevant Data Sheets for Normalized valves. The welding shall be carried out in accordance with procedures foreseen by each material code;

    - by-pass valves shall be globe valve type (external screw with yoke

    and rising stem) and designated with the symbols of this specification;

    - valve yokes ND 2" shall be integral with the bonnet; - the surface finishing of stuffing box shall have a maximum roughness

    of 63 Ra in accordance with ANSI/ASME codes B46.1, (Ra = arithmetic average of the deviation absolute values measured from the centre line of the roughness profile);

    - stem yoke nut for valves with an external screw and a not rising handwheel for ND 6, pressure rating 600#, 900# and 1500# and ND 3, pressure rating 2500# shall be fitted with thrust bearing;

    - gate and globe valves ND 2, and a pressure rating 300#, shall

    be provided with a lantern ring whose material shall be the same as one of the stem; inside the stuffing box in correspondence of the lantern ring a threaded hole ND NPT shall be provided along with a plug lubricator or bleed for a lubricating installation;

    - unless otherwise specified in each Data Sheet for Normalized valves,

    the stem of gate and globe valves shall be manufactured with a shoulder for the back-seat;

    - gate, globe and check valves provided with threaded or expanded

    seats, are acceptable with integral seats when specified with the same body material;

    - all ball valves shall be FIRE SAFE manufactured and certificated in

    accordance with API Spec. 6FA and EN 12266 codes as specified in the Data Sheets for Normalized valves and moreover provided with an ANTISTATIC DEVICE in accordance with EN 17292 code. In particular they shall have:

    a) two additional metal seals with the ball capable of operation in

    the event of plastic seats material being destroyed; b) a stainless steel internal device for assuring the electrical

    continuity between the BALL-STEM-BODY with a resistance 10 verified on a prototype and in specified test conditions;

    - the specified finishing for the housing surface of body-cover gaskets

    shall be:

    a) for FF coupling: flat face type with roughness 500 Ra in accordance with ANSI/ASME code B46.1;

    b) for MF coupling: male-female type SMOOTH finished with

    roughness 125 Ra in accordance with ANSI/ASME code B46.1; c) for RJ coupling: ring joint type, in accordance with ASME code

    B16.20; - the body - bonnet gasket seat of valves ND 2 ND shall be

    designed in such a way to completely surround the gasket (Confined gasket type);

    - valves shall be supplied complete with all devices required to guarantee their operability in accordance with paragraph 2.3.4.

    - unless otherwise required in the documents issued for a specific

    project, for valves designed to work at a minimum project temperature down to -46C, Extended Stem execution is not requested;

    - bodies of all valves with ND 2, excepting butterfly and diaphragm

    valves, shall be fitted with bosses for purge connection, by-passes with dimensions and locations in accordance with the manufacturing codes of the valves;

    - by-pass, if requested in the Data Sheet issued for the specific

    project, shall have dimensions in accordance with MSS code SP 45 Series A;

    - the body-bonnet jointing as specified in the relevant Data Sheets for

    Normalized valves, excepting for plug or ball valve and valves with class rating 800#, shall be of RJ type when:

    a) the end connection to the line of Class 300# is RJ; b) the end connection to the line of Class 600# is BW;

    - valves with threaded or socket welded connections, of rated bores

    2 and of greater sizes than indicated in the relevant Data Sheets for Normalized valves, shall be rounded or bevelled to 45;

    - body-bonnet threaded joint for valves WELDED BONNET type, with

    ND 2 shall have a weld-seal that can be easily removed by grinding so that the valve may be re-used;

    - globe and check valves shall have raised on the body (for casting or

    forging) an arrow indicating flow direction; - when body seats and backseat are to be welded, no welded-

    threaded joints are accepted;

    - Packing included in this specification are basically made of lines or strands of organic, mineral or synthetic nature weaved by square-section diagonal intertwining. The characteristics of the material used for the basic weaving or tapes shall be guaranteed by an analysis certificate issued by the manufacturer. In presence of high pressure and high temperature fluids, a metallic reinforcement line can be added to the basic weaving. During manufacture, such line shall be entirely wrapped by the fibres that make up the basic weaving. During manufacture packing are soaked line by line with additives and/or lubricants in order to give the same special characteristics such as low friction factor, good heat conductibility, compactness. Packing can be provided by coils of market length or by pre-compressed rings. Pure graphite tapes are also included used as such or as pre-compressed rings. Since a higher number of lines result in better mechanical characteristics, not only the weaving type and spindles number but also the minimum number of lines that are necessary for their manufacturing shall be indicated. Soaking with lubricating, protective, etc. substances shall be implemented line by line.

    2.3.2 Dimensional requirements

    The nominal diameters indicated in the Data Sheets for Normalized valves are corresponding to those designated as Nominal Pipe Size (inches) in the codes ANSI/ASME B 16.5, ASME B16.47 and MSS SP 44. The flanged ends of valves shall be designed as follows: - Cu-Ni valves: EEMUA 145; - Valves of other materials: ANSI/ASME B16.5 for ND up to 24

    - RF (Raised Face) ANSI/ASME B16.5 for valves class rating 150#, 300# and 600#;

    - RJ (Ring Joint) ANSI/ASME B16.5 for va lves Class rating

    600#, 800#, 900#, 1500# and 2500#. The butt-welded (BW) ends of valves for which, in the Data Sheet issued for the specific project, the internal diameter or the thickness of the pipe shall be specified to which the ends will be welded, shall be in accordance with ASME code B16.25. When the valves ends thickness is greater than 50% of the pipe wall thickness, the Contractor shall supply a transition piece that shall be submitted to Company for approval. The socket welded (SW) and threaded (THDD) valve ends shall comply with ASME code B16.11. The thread of the threaded joints (NPT) shall comply with ASME code B1.20.1. End to end or face to face dimensions different from those reported on the reference normative may be accepted only for valves with threaded or socket welded joints, for wafer and pressure seal valves. The Contractor is anyway obliged to indicate in the annex of the offer any possible dimensional deviations from the requested ones.

    2.3.3 Material requirements

    This specification and the Data Sheets for Normalized valves report the list of the materials requested for the manufacturing of various components. Alternative equivalent or superior materials may be submitted for Company approval; the proposal shall be justified and documented, and anyway shall satisfy the chemical analysis and mechanical properties requirements stated by the above-mentioned codes. Valves required in materials other than carbon steel may be supplied, with Companys approval, in cladded carbon steel, provided that they are suitable for being used in the conditions of the specific project. Disc and seats of gate, globe and check valves, shall be manufactured either integrally with the requested material or with the same material as the body and with sealing surfaces consisting of a welded overlay of the requested material. The yoke, if separated from the bonnet, shall be manufactured using the same material as the bonnet.

    When seats and backseat are requested with sealing surfaces of austenitic steel or hardened by means of a weld overlay of Cobalt alloy E or Cr-A AWS 5.13 (HF) (wire or electrode), the requested material may be deposited directly on the separated rings or on the body/bonnet. Direct deposits of 13 Cr material on the body or bonnet are not allowed. The sealing surfaces of disc may be either integral, manufactured by means of a welded overlay or welded rings, or hardened by weld overlay of Cobalt alloy "E-Co-Cr-A AWS 5.13 (HF) (wire or electrode). The thickness of the overlay material shall be minimum 1.6 mm after machining. For valves ISO 15761 (API STD 602) the thickness shall be minimum 0.8 mm. Cobalt alloys E-Co-Cr-A AWS 5.13 (HF) used for weld overlay shall be deposited in accordance with paragraphs QW 216 and 281 of ASME code Sect. IX. All other welded overlays shall be carried out in accordance with ASME code Sect. IX. Unless specified in the Data Sheets MOD.MEC.VLI.001, for butt welded valves (BW) manufactured according to ISO 14313 (API Spec. 6D), the following carbon equivalent limits shall be not exceeded:

    2.3.3.1 Soft material sealing

    The manufacturing of sealing material (soft seal) shall be performed by placing additional sealing rings in the plug or in the seats in such a way as to guarantee a perfect tightness. Valves with soft sealing material shall maintain the tight also when rings or soft material rings are worn or damaged. The additional metal to metal sealing shall not require the increasing of the torque value on the handwheel as compared to a similar valve with metallic sealing. The sealing ring shall lean from the metal surface as follows: a) teflon o-ring: 0.25 mm max. b) normal teflon ring: 0.08 to 0.20 mm c) ring of other materials: 0.08 to 0.20 mm (unless otherwise

    specified).

    The width of the sealing ring shall be maintained in the range from 2.5 mm to 6.5 mm. The soft sealing material shall be capable of withstanding a minimum of 2000 opening and closing cycles at valve operating pressure without suffering damages or permanent deformations on the soft ring due to friction occurring between the two seals in contact with each other.

    2.3.4 Operating devices

    Valves shall be supplied with an operating device, wrench or manual gear, in accordance with paragraph 2.3.4.1. Unless otherwise indicated in the Data Sheet MOD.MEC.VLI.001 issued for the specific project, all operating devices shall be designed in such a way that the manual torque does not exceed 220 N (22 kg) when opening and closing the valve at the maximum differential pressure. Butterfly, ball and plug valves, specified without gear operator, shall be supplied with an operating wrench. Its dimension shall not exceed 450 mm. The operating wrench of ball valves shall be of the replaceable type, with OPEN CLOSED stops, and designed in such a way as to prevent erroneous positioning and shall be manufactured using carbon steel protected against rusting. Handwheels shall be of the crown type, with notches or protrusions for manual operations, shall have an arrow to indicate the position and marked OPENED - CLOSED (valves ND 2 excluded) and they shall be manufactured in malleable iron or carbon steel and protected against rusting. Their diameter shall not exceed 750 mm. Gate valves with a non-rising stem shall be supplied with a T-socket-wrench and shall be equipped with a protective cap. All valves, excepting check valves, shall be equipped with a position indicator (OPEN - CLOSED) showing intermediate for the throttling valves.

    2.3.6 Repairing

    Contractor may proceed to valves parts repairing only with Companys approval. In any case, unless otherwise indicated, repairs of parts of cast valves by welding shall be in compliance with appendix 7 of ASME code Sect. VIII Div. I. Welding procedures shall be qualified in accordance with ASME IX. Adequate heat treatment shall follow the welding in accordance with the valve material code. The procedures for repairing shall be described in the valve origin certificate. The Contractor shall notify to Company the set up of the material to be tested with at least a 10-day notice.

    2.3.7 Spare parts

    The valves shall be supplied complete with spare parts for commissioning and start-up and the list of spare parts for two years of operation.

    2.3.8 Painting and packing Painting and packing shall comply with the requirements of specifications

    20000.VAR.PAI.FUN and 05883.VAR.GEN. SPC and the documents issued for the specific project.

    2.3.9 Marking of valves

    All valves shall be equipped with a proper identification name plate which shall report the following information: - valve tag, - nominal diameter, - rating, - body material, - trim material, - Contractor name and/or trade mark, - serial number, manufacturing year and order number. The valves name plate shall be of stainless steel or nickel alloy. Unless otherwise specified by Company, the valves ND 4 are accepted with anodized aluminium name plate. All parts relating to the valve shall be taken from the appropriate Data Sheet for Normalized valves using the abbreviations therein. If supplementary tests are specified, the valve tag shall be followed by the symbol corresponding to the required test and the identification code of the type of the test piece (see paragraph 2.8.2 table 1).

    2.4 Boundaries, limits and exclusions

    2.5 Ergonomics Operating devices and everything installed around the valves shall be

    designed in such a way as:

    - to not give any hindrance to the escape ways and the normal passages,

    - to make the valves accessible for maintenance operations. 2.6 Safety No safety requirements to be considered exist. 2.7 Requirements for Quality Management and Quality Assurance

    Possible Requirements for Quality Management and Quality Assurance will be included in the applicable management specification, attached to the offer.

    2.8 Additional requirements for review 2.8.1 Tests

    Valves and their parts shall be submitted by Contractor to all tests and verifications specified in the Inspection Data Sheet (IDS), notably: a) verification of chemical analysis and mechanical properties of the

    materials; b) dimensional check; c) visual examination of castings in accordance with MSS SP-55 code; d) pressure test of body and bonnet; e) hydraulic tightness test with closed valve; f) pneumatic tightness test of seats and backseat; g) BW ends of cast valves with ND 2 shall always be 100%

    radiographed in accordance with ASME code B16.34; h) BW ends of all forged and cast valves with ND 1 shall always be

    submitted to 100% ultrasonic examination in accordance with ASME code B16.34.

    The test procedures specified at points d), e), and f) shall be in accordance with the following codes: - API Std 598 for gate and plug valves; - EN 12266 for globe, check and ball valves; - ISO 14313 (API6D) for valves manufactured in accordance with this
