NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING TECHNICIAN
• Non-destructive testing (NDT) technicians test surface or core materials for flaws that could affect their safety or effectiveness, and/or more generally the compliance of the part with its intended purpose, without causing damage. NDT uses a range of techniques, including electromagnetic (eddy current) inspection, magnetic particle inspection (MPI), liquid penetrant testing, acoustic emission testing, radiography and X-ray computer tomography.
• The job involves the handling of chemicals and radioactive sources, along with the use of waveform generators and other specialized equipment.
• NDT technician certification is valid for five years. Technicians may work alone on-site on a shift basis (mornings, afternoons and nights), as well as off-site («on-wing» servicing).
