The Division of Industrial Compliance: Our Role
▪Ensure Ohioans are safe in public buildings▪ Review building plans, and inspect plumbing, electrical and structural systems
▪ Inspect and certify boilers, elevators and bedding, and regulate ski tramways

▪ Ensure buildings are safe by enforcing the Fire Code
▪ Professionalize the fire service
▪ Investigate cause and origin of fires
▪ Provide fire safety education
▪ License underground storage tanks, fireworks and fire-related
industries

▪Conduct nearly 13,000 code enforcement inspections
▪Conduct/assist in more than 1,000 fire investigations
▪Oversee 21,500 underground storage tanks
▪Provide training to more than 11,000 students

▪2017: In 35% of fatal fires, smoke alarms weren’t present,
or the presence of smoke alarms was unknown
