We Value:
Compassion Having a deep concern for others, especially those
who are suffering, shown through kind words and
actions in an effort to lessen their suffering.
We show this by:
Including others in games
Caring for the school and yourself
Forgiving others when they make mistakes
Noticing when others seem sad or troubled
and help them.
Finding the Spirit of Jesus in people we talk
to.
Asking ‘how can I help?’

CONFIRMATION PRAYER
Spirit of God grant me:
The gift of wisdom
to see the world through your eyes,
The gift of counsel
to make difficult decisions,
The gifts of knowledge and understanding
to use my mind to know you and to love you,
The gift of fortitude
to have the courage to live in the faith
despite the difficulties and disappointments,
The gift of piety
to be able to express my special love
and commitment to you,
and the right kind of awesome fear
that makes me pause to wonder and revere
God’s Love.
Amen.
Survey Feedback
Thank you to the families who responded to our recent parent survey facilitated
by ‘Tell Them From Me’. There were 48 respondents. The purpose of the
survey was to gather feedback to work towards continual improvement. In the
coming weeks we will be reviewing the data. Once again, thank you for taking
the time to give feedback. It is appreciated. The survey is now closed.
Student Code of Conduct
Over the last few weeks teachers have been talking to students about the
Student Code of Conduct. Each child from Year 1-6 has signed a copy, which
they will be bringing home, and we would like you to discuss with your child.
There is a copy in each classroom. It is pleasing to hear students challenge each
other to abide by the Code of Conduct and we hope this provides them with
clear guidelines for their words and actions and also gives clarity for students to
seek assistance if required. A copy is attached to this newsletter for your
reference.

Parent Child Workshop in Preparation for Confirmation
On Wednesday 16 May Year 6 families gathered to continue preparation leading up to Confirmation. It was an interactive evening
where families were engaged in learning more about this special Sacrament. See photos in this newsletter.
Confirmation
This was a very special occasion for the Year 6 students and their families last Sunday. We pray that receiving the gifts of the Holy
Spirit, these students will continue to develop their faith. Thank you to the Year 5 parents who assisted with setting up for coffee and
cake and cleaning up afterwards.

Code of Conduct for Students
As students of Our Lady of Lourdes School, we understand that all members of our school com-
munity need to follow a Code of Conduct for the safety and
well-being of everybody, as we strive to be a welcoming community of
‘Many Minds – One Heart.’
Conduct Statements (What We Expect of You)
1. You act safely so you don’t hurt yourself or others. 2. You treat others the way you would like to be treated. 3. You follow school rules. 4. You show respect for others regardless of their differences. 5. You respect the property of others. 6. You respect the resources of the school, including classroom, ICT, sports and playgrounds. 7. You are honest and acknowledge your mistakes. 8. You listen to others, so everyone has a voice. 9. You follow classroom rules allowing teachers to teach so all students can learn. 10. You take pride in your school.
If you are concerned that someone is not following the Code of Conduct, you need to talk to a teacher first, then a member of the Leadership Team or the Principal.
CLASS NEWS
The Year 1 room has been invaded by Bee-Bots! These very
cute robotic bees are helping us learn how to program and
control a robot. We are having so much fun trying to get our
Bee-Bots to go in the direction that we want them to go.
Sometimes they can be very tricky!
The Year 6 class had a wonderful day at the Confirmation
Retreat on Friday. They did lots of activities including ones
about Pentecost, their names and saints.
Congratulations to the 14 class members who received the
Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday.
We are nearly finished our reports about a chosen natural
disaster in our writing lessons.
In Maths this week we are multiplying and dividing with
fractions. We have been working so hard and we are looking
forward to the long weekend.
Year 2. What a wonderful week we had last week with our
assembly. We were very excited to show everyone our play.
In literacy we have been learning about some strategies - making
connections with the text, learning about characters and why
authors created characters in a particular way,
as well as summarising a text.
In maths we have been learning about written addition and
subtraction and looking at some cool ways to solve problems.
In health we have been learning about protein, carbohydrates and
calcium. So much learning as the term flies by!
Exciting things have been happening in Pre primary. We
have been so lucky to be able to observe the life cycle of
butterflies. We would like to say a big thank you to Sarah
Float who so kindly organised seven chrysalis to be arrive in
our classroom. Over a week we were able to observe
changes that take place during the hatching period. We
used magnifying glasses to examine the chrysalis and the
butterflies when they hatched. We discovered that butterfly
wings are symmetrical and we had fun creating our own
examples of symmetrical pictures. After all the
Butterflies hatched, we released them in a calm spot out of
the wind. What an exciting week we had!
Year 4
Week 5 means that this term is already half way done!
In Mathematics students have been using number lines to
investigate equivalent fractions.
In English students have been looking at some traditional tales
and point of view. They have begun writing their own versions
of these stories focusing on telling the story from a different
point of view, looking at how this changes who
the villains of the story are.
In Religion we have been looking at the lives of Saints Peter and
Paul and how the Holy Spirit strengthened them to do well.
In Year 3, we have completed our NAPLAN testing and are now
busy preparing for our class liturgy and assembly item.
In maths we have been learning about fractions of a whole and of
a group. We have started our Religious Education unit on
Penance, and will soon be getting ready to receive the sacrament
of Reconciliation for the first time.
We have been enjoying the Footy Clinics and have
learnt lots of useful skills.
Kindy
We have been learning all about dinosaurs!
We have made fossils from clay and skeletons from pasta. We
measured and compared 10cm objects. That’s the size of a
T Rex tooth!
We loved the Dino World Incursion
and made our own pet dinosaur.
Year 5
In Math we have started our unit on Volume. We have made
3 dimensional shapes and filled them with cubic centimetres.
We have discovered that the formula for calculating volume is
length x width x height.
In English we are beginning our work on recounts. We are
looking at the structure and language features.
We are all looking forward to the Winter Carnival on Friday.
Please inform the school office on 9728 1054 if you
will be attending by Wednesday, 20 June.
Students learned that not all creatures
labelled as dinosaurs are in fact dinosaurs.
They saw a life size representation
of a dinosaur.
They learned that dinosaurs come in all
shapes and sizes.
Students discovered that there are some
animals living today that were around in
the time of dinosaurs.
They discovered that dinosaur fossils have
been found in Australia.
