Trail usesBackcountry trail use is the primary recreational activity and includes hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. The Washington Native Plant Society leads hikes here in the spring to observe the rare �ora atop Echo Mountain. The trail up Echo Mountain is hiking only, while the trails in McGarvey Park are popular with mountain bikers. Horses are not allowed on the Shady Lake Trail.
AccessSpring Lake / Lake Desire is east of Renton near Fairwood. From the Maple Valley Highway, SR-169, or SE Petrovitsky Road, take 196th Avenue SE , then SE 183rd Street to East Spring Lake Drive. Follow around the lake to the trailhead at the end of West Spring Lake Drive SE. There is also a boat launch nearby.
Spring Lake / Lake Desire Park and McGarvey Park are served by Metro bus route 148 to Fairwood.
King County’s Parks and Recreation Division manages 29,000 acres of parks and natural lands, and provides over 300 miles of trails with year-round accessibility for hiking, mountain biking, trail running and horseback riding. Each trail o�ers a unique opportunity to walk, run or ride through the quiet beauty of our region’s rich natural heritage.
These public recreational assets and protected natural areas enhance our region’s quality of life and preserve this public lands legacy for future generations of King County residents. Spring Lake / Lake Desire Park is a 396-acre forested site with a bald rocky outcrop, a
bog and 3 miles of trails situated between…Spring Lake and Lake Desire! Echo Mountain is the 900-foot-tall rocky outcrop that provides great views of the two lakes and the Cascade foothills. There is a bog along the west shore of Spring Lake which is also home to unique plants like Labrador tea. This site is connected to more than 1,000 acres of open space which also includes Wetland 14 Natural Area, McGarvey Park Open Space, Petrovitsky Park and nearby Peterson Lake Natural Area and Lake Youngs Park.
