Review
During the first quarter, you have learned about the music of the lowlands of
Luzon. Through music, they express their faith and devotions. Many folk songs have
Spanish and European influences. The melodic chants and musical instruments
were created based on the materials readily available where they live.
The music for liturgy and devotional music of the lowlands of Luzon reflects
the impact of colonization which lasted for more than three centuries. These greatly
affects the religious practices of the ethnolinguistic groups.
Directions: Group the following songs according to different Philippine music styles.
Dungawin Mo, Hirang Dios Te Salve

The music of the Cordillera, Mindoro, Palawan, and Visayas have similarities
in terms of function of music in their daily lives. Music is often used in rituals and
ceremonies, important life events including lullabies and chants.
In the highlands of Luzon, music is related to different occasions. There is a
song for agricultural activities, peace pacts to war chants, birth, courtship, marriage
and death where it may be witnessed by spectators.
The music of Cordillera is categorized into three, Vocal Music, Instrumental

Vocal music may be a passage with one syllable and sung against several note
passages. It is called Melismatic. Another category is Free Meter which is a musical
meter with time signature. Examples of these Vocal Music is Ibaloi Badiw which is
one of the vocal genres considered to be the signature form for specific cultures in
Cordillera. Owiwi, Dagayday, Oppia, Langan bata-bata, Bua, Kawayanna are
examples of infancy-related songs. Another example is the Hudhud, a chanted epic
poetry recited and chanted only during four occasions: the harvesting of rice and
wedding, funeral wakes, bone washing (bogwa) rituals.

The function of Instrumental Music of the Cordillera is similar to its vocal
music. Instruments are played during rituals, ceremonies and celebrations.
The music of Cordillera is distinctively made up of two sound characteristics
of instruments based on the material used.

One of the most common instrumental music is the Gangsa ensemble. It
consists of five to sing flat gongs played in standing or bending position.
a. Gangsa Toppaya – gongs played by striking with palm while rested on the
lap.
b. Gangsa Palook – gongs are struct or beaten with a wooden mallets while
held by the left hand. It is usually played by men.

Arts and Crafts of Mindoro Quarter 2 Week 1
9 | P a g e
There are several ethnic groups living in Mindoro. Collectively, they are called
Mangyans. These groups are different from each other based on language, customs
and traditions. Two of the most prominent native groups are Hanunuo-Mangyan
which means “true/ real/ genuine” Mangyan while another group is called Iraya-
Mangyan.
One of the arts of Mangyan exhibits a rich, creative heritage. One of their art
form is a rhythmic, poetic expression with a meter of seven-syllable called Ambahan.
It is presented through chanting without a determined musical pitch or
accompaniment. Another variation of this is the Urukay, which uses eight syllables
instead of seven. Both are usually written on bamboo tubes and slats.
Making baskets with intricate patterns such as human, animals and tree
figures are the craft of Iraya-Mangyan. It is meticulously woven using dried grass
and forest vines.

Discussion
Physical Fitness is the body’s ability to function effectively and efficiently
without undue fatigue in work and leisure activities to meet emergency situations
and to resist diseases from inactive lifestyle.
In addition, Physical fitness is defined as “set of attributes that people have
or achieve that relates to the ability to perform physical activity. Being fit is not
defined only by what kind of activity you do, how long you do it, or at what level of
intensity.
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence suggests that to
maintain health, you should do 30 minutes of moderate exercise 5 times a week.
However, it depends on how you wish to become an intermediate or elite competitor
in any sport. Studying the Principles of Fitness Training and applying the Basic
Training Principles are necessary to improve your physical fitness performance.
As human person it is a must for us to give more attention to physical fitness
and engage ourselves to physical activities such as sports and recreations so that
our body stay relaxed and confortable amid of negativities and uncentainties
happening in our society. After all, physical fitness is our key to attain holistic
development.
Principles of Fitness Training
18 | P a g e
The following are the five (5) Fitness Training Principles: (1) Principles of
Overload, (2) Principles of Specificity, (3) Principles of Progression, (4) Principles of
Variation and (5) Principles of Recovery.
1. Principles of Overload. It is the most important and widely used basic fitness
training principles. It specifies that you must perform physical exercise than
normal amounts (overload) to get an improvement in physical fitness and health
benefits. Furthermore, Overload refers to the quantity of physical stress applied
to the body. The Fitness Golden Rule No.1 of Live Better Fitness (2017) states that
“You must go beyond your comfort zone for fitness to improve”. This quotation
emphasizes the importance of overload to achieve proper improvement in health
and physical fitness.
2. Principles of Specificity. This indicates that you must train a specific energy
system and specific muscle groups in order for them to improve. This principle
of specificity has direct relationship to the quotation “you get what you train for”.
It specifically improves the system of your body that requires more energy from
the training program you have chosen.
3. Principles of Progression. This means gradually increasing the amount of
exercise you do to remain effective and achieve the best results and outcome. It
should be increased slowly and progressively to ensure the avoidance of fatigue,
muscle pain or even unnecessary injury.
4. Principles of Variation. This provides variety in training programs/tasks to
maintain the high level of interest and motivation to continue the exercise or
fitness program. Variation of exercises and activities that may introduce and
apply to lessen the boredom and dullness in training sessions.
5. Principles of Recovery. This is a principle that incorporates time to rest into
the fitness program. Rest is also an important part of every exercise sessions. It
allows someone to refuel and regain his/her released energy. Fitness recovery
can be improved in different ways, such as effective nutrition and proper
hydration, light cardio-vascular exercises, and variety of stretching sessions.
19 | P a g e
The Concept Map of F.I.T.T. Principles
Applying the F.I.T.T. Principles
There are four ways to achieve effective delivery of exercise program in the
improvement of your physical fitness. They can easily be remembered using the cue,
F.I.T.T. The selected FITT Principle is a formula in which each letter represents a
factor important for determining the correct amount of physical activity.
Frequency – This is how often you train. Frequency refers to the number of
exercise session per week; for example, three to five times a week.
Intensity – This is how hard you train. Intensity is the degree of effort or
exertion put forth by an individual during exercise.
Time (or duration) – This is how long you train for. Time is the duration of the
length of the activity, such as 40 minutes of exercise, is how long an exercise must
be performed to be effective.
Type – This is the kind of training you do. Type is the mode of exercise being
performed. The selection of the type of exercise should be guided by the fitness goal
to be achieved.

Hello Grade 7 Learner! I hope you’re having a great week! Are you ready for
the second quarter of health education? I hope that you are healthy and doing well
in answering all the activities for this health education subject. As your learning
facilitator, I am proud of the way you worked for the completion of your activities.
This time, our topic is all about Nutrition for you to achieve healthy lifestyle
during adolescence. According to Philippine Sports Institute (2020), Nutrition has a
direct impact in improving your quality of life. When you follow a balanced diet, you
can reduce the risk of developing various diseases, keep a healthy weight, and
increase the body’s energy level.
But before we start, let me ask you the following questions: Do you eat meals
regularly? Do you eat the right food you need for good health? Are you getting the
right nutrients you need from the food you eat? Do you follow most of the nutritional
guidelines? Maybe most of you can answer YES. But how about the less fortunate
children of our society? What can you say about them? Now, it is our chance to learn
more about nutrition.
I know that you're on the right track now to achieve a healthy lifestyle as

Acknowledgment
The Schools Division of Zambales would like to express its heartfelt gratitude
to the following, who in one way or the other, have contributed to the successful
preparation, development, quality assurance, printing, and distribution of the Quarter 2 Guided Learning Activity Kits (GLAKs) in all learning areas across grade
levels as a response to providing the learners with developmentally-appropriate, contextualized and simplified learning resources with most essential learning
competencies (MELCs)-based activities anchored on the principles of guided learning
and explicit instruction:
First, the Learning Resources (LR) Development Team composed of the writers
and graphic artists for devoting much of their time and exhausting their best efforts to produce these indispensable learning kits used for the implementation of learning
delivery modalities.
Second, the content editors, language reviewers, and layout evaluators
making up the Division Quality Assurance Team (DQAT) for having carefully
evaluated all GLAKs to ensure quality and compliance to DepEd standards;
Third, the Provincial Government of Zambales, for unceasingly extending its financial assistance to augment the funds for the printing of these learning resources
for use by learners and parents at home;
Fourth, the teacher-advisers and subject teachers, in close coordination with the school heads, for their weekly distribution and retrieval of the GLAKs and for
their frequent monitoring of the learners’ progress through various means; and
Finally, the parents and other home learning facilitators for giving the learners
the needed guidance and support for them to possibly accomplish the tasks and for
gradually helping them become independent learners.
To deliver learning continuity in this challenging circumstance would not be possible without your collective effort and strong commitment to serving our
Zambaleño learners.
Again, our sincerest thanks!
The Management Team
