OToday we celebrate the 10th edition of the Melaka Art & Performance Festival. Over the years we have seen artist grow and mature in their artform, some have ventured into the international scene and won awards. Most have established themselves in the eld of their choosing.

Our humble festival has reached the far corners of the globe, with a growing number of artists showing interest to participate in the festival every year. This little festival has become a much-anticipated annual event in the local community.

We are most honored to have accommodated over 400 artists in 10 years, and bid farewell to a few artists taken before their time.

We at E-Plus Global have funded and supported the festival nan-cially and logistically, with the current downturn of economic situation, we are nding it harder to sustain. We welcome any form of support to prolong the longevity of the festival.

We give a BIG thanks to all the entire artists who have found the festival and have shared their artistic wealth. Our gratitude goes out to the local community for the continuous support and for the

management team who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the festival.

Enjoy the festival.

selamat datangMelaka Arts and PerformanceFestival (MAPFest) has reachedits 10th year since its inception.MAP X brings adds new challengeto bring back the essentialenchantment of the site of St Paul’shill. It hopes to reclaim thebeauty of the natural site andambience and forgo the ‘staging’and commodification of thenaturally enchanting that existwithin the site. The artists will beable to return to their innermoststates of being in the practice oftheir artforms without the harshstaging elements that so oftencan diminish the essence andaffect of the subtle and powerfulact of performance making.

The festival is a rich ground forartists from different disciplines, background and levels of

platform for creation, collaboration, exchange and experimentation.

Differences and always returning tothe origin, the source where allcreative power starts. We remindourselves of why we exist and theinexhaustible way enthusiasm forlife is propelled through art.

Map has won many awards withinthe areas of arts and globalcommunity. Bold ideas are freelyaccessible for everyone and ininexpensive ways. MAP is a strongand rich cultural emersion for thevisiting artists and spectators.

This festival remains inclusive, belonging to the artists and the

public. In a highly marketed world,we are reminders of why one existand what is truely valuable tohumans. Themes of spiritualtransformation create a frame forworks of art. We inspire oneanother, support each other andencourage uniquness. A festival forindependent artists who come ontheir own source of support toperform, collaborate and exchangeand share ideas. We thank allartists deeply. Thank you alsoAndrew Ching, Suen Kar Nee,Takashi Takiguchi and the E-Pluscrew without whom this festivalwould not be what it is!

MAPFest has gained a highnational, and international

, not because it has a hugebudget or is spectacularity in termsof ornamental extravagance, butits fresh, bold, diverse art.

Enjoy!

pre-festival movement workshop

map workshop podthe Other – antropicembodiment

the Other is dissimilar to and the oppositeof Self, of Us, and of the Same. Makingyour event/performance here calls for de-habitualizing and de-narcissifying. Perhapsa new courage is required for the risk ofdiscovering the Other.

What are the most fundamental impulseswhere movements originate? Antropic isthe unpredictable.

While automatic psychophysical impulsesarise from inhabited areas of self, resistingthem evokes new kind of drives. We areinterested in those drives, which areatonal, unknown, unbridled, exposingblockages, fears and abjection.Appropriated in a situation of “nowhere tohide” by a touch of graceful compassion, they become lines of poetry addressed tono one from no one.

These radical instructions derive from the NewSound Meditation written by Pauline Oliveros forthe 1988 Bang on a Can Festival in New York.  Itforms the notation that is text on a page ratherthan dots on a page and directs multifacetedaudience/performer's participation in the work.  Itsconception opened up a revolutionary practice ofdeep listening in music and performance fordecades to come.

not drowning …wavingperformance art - durationalNot Drowning …Waving was first devised followingdevastating floods in Lismore, NSW in 2017. Being site-specific this performance relates in new ways to a newplacement. Here it is addressing the mounting problem ofwater in plastic bottles. As the planet degrades and waterbecomes more polluted people are seeking clean water frombottles that are contributing to that very pollution, thusperpetuating the cycle. The boat installation in place for theduration of the festival will become increasingly surroundedby water bottles discarded over the course of the event todraw attention to this crisis. During the performance AñAWojak will be dancing in a boat full of water that alsogenerates sounds manipulated into the accompanyingsoundscape live by Cloudbeard. It is a cry for the planet, seasand waterways. Water is Life…
