ABOUT US
Bryant Park is one of the world’s busiest public
spaces. More than 12 million people per year visit
the park to enjoy over 1,000 free events including
winter activities, cultural programming, daily
amenities, and the park’s lush gardens featuring
seasonal displays.
Once a potter’s field, the site of the Croton
Distributing Reservoir, and a Civil War
encampment, Bryant Park boasts a rich history.
Named for Romantic poet and civic reformer
William Cullen Bryant, the park was officially
born in 1884 and became home to the New York
Public Library when the Beaux-Arts building was
completed in 1911.
Each winter, the Lawn is transformed into NYC’s
first and only free admission ice skating rink,
surrounded by the Holiday Shops and The Lodge,
a popup bar and food hall. Bank of America
Winter Village hosts a Christmas Tree skate show
with performances from Olympic skaters, Santa’s
Corner, FrostFest with bumper cars on ice, and more.
A stroll through the park reveals eight monuments,
from the park’s namesake to Mexican national
hero Benito Juarez. Others include author and
poet Gertrude Stein, German writer and statesman
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and reform leader
Josephine Shaw Lowell.
To learn more about the park’s history and
architecture, join our public tour of the park
every Wednesday from 11am-11:45am. Register at
bryantpark.org or email [email protected] for
groups larger than six.
