If you are the parent of a student who will move to a different Humble ISD campus for the 2011-2012 school year, you may have questions about your child’s cafeteria account. Any balance that is in the account at the end of this year will follow your stu-dent to his or her new campus. That money will be available for the student on the first day of school.

However, if your child will no longer be enrolled in a Humble ISD school or you would like your money refunded, please contact your current cafeteria man-ager. The campus manager will refund the remaining balance to you. You can receive your refund in per-son or by sending a written request with your child to the cafeteria manager. The last date to re-ceive your refund is May 31, 2011. After that time managers will deposit all remaining cash and will be unable to make refunds. Any refund request after this date will have to be made to the Child Nutrition office and a refund check will be mailed.

The Child Nutrition Depart-ment wishes everyone a terrific summer and we look forward to serving all Humble ISD stu-dents in the fall.

Cafeteria Refund News Please be advised that if your child has medication stored in the clinic from the school year (2010/2011) YOU MUST STOP BY THE CLINIC TO PICK UP THE MEDICATION BY 11:00 AM ON Wednesday, June 1st. Any medication left in the clinic after that time will be destroyed. Medications are not carried over from year to year. Per Humble ISD policy, “Any unused medication must be picked up by a parent, guardian or an adult. NO MEDICA-TIONS WILL BE SENT HOME WITH STU-DENTS”. If you have any questions, please contact me at 281-641-2900. Thank you. Donna Liptak R.N. Maplebrook Elementary School Nurse

Technology Spotlight

Congratulations to Mrs. Rider’s homeroom class! They recently completed a (virtual) trip to Hawaii in a distance

learning project called “The Great Race.” In this project, 5th grade classrooms from around the nation raced from Key West, Florida to the Hawaiian island of Maui. Students were challenged to plan the entire trip—everything from checking the weather to selecting transportation, lodging, and meals, using actual pricing found online. They also were required to stop at various cultural

and historical places along the way all while trying to arrive at their destination in the least amount of time and spending the least amount of money. During this project, Mrs. Rider’s students connected with other classrooms in the United States via videoconferencing technology to introduce themselves and share the progress of their trip. While Mrs. Rider’s class did not win the overall race, they did complete their trip in the least amount of time and they learned lots of real-life skills. Way to go “Rock Hounds”! Julie Weldon, Instructional Technologist
