HP-UX 11i Version 1 for PA-RISC Serversand workstations is now available onDigital Versatile Disk (DVD). DVD providesconsiderable benefits to HP-UX customersby consolidating Operating Environmentsand HP-UX Applications each onto a singleplatter. HP-UX installation is greatly easedand finding the components you're lookingfor is much simpler. In addition, since theHP-UX Applications are on a single DVD,one codeword will unlock any combinationof them.
As an HP-UX support customer you canchange over your support distribution overto DVD at contract renewal time. Pleasecontact your HP support contract administratorif you desire to change over to DVD ratherthan CD. In addition, starting in December2002, HP-UX will also be available onDVD for new purchases.
Note that if you desire to continue receivingHP-UX on CD-ROM, you do not need totake any action. If you do not request achangeover to DVD, you will continue toreceive your HP-UX 11i Version 1 updateson CD-ROM as you always have. In addition,HP-UX 11i Version 1 will continue CD-ROM
availability for new purchases. It is yourchoice whether you desire HP-UX 11iVersion 1 on DVD or CD-ROM.
Note: HP-UX 11.0 will remain on CD-ROMonly, for both support updates and newpurchases.

ECM Toolkit:There are two major enhancements thatwill be added to the toolkit for theDecember 2002 release.• The "SERVER" field in the Netscape
enterprise script has an undocumentedmax length. This issue will be addressedafter modifications to the documentationin the script. Solution will be documentedin the Release Notes & README.
• Corner-case problem occurs for a userwhose "monitored process" is actually ascript that calls a routine with argumentsbut has a routine name that is the sameas the monitored name.

MPI Please find below the Major enchancementsto MPI which are in MPI 1.8.2:• Fixed a spin/yield problem which in
some cases could cause large-messagetransfers to be very slow. The problemwould primarily affect IPF runs, but could
affect PA as well, if certain somewhatuncommon run-timeflags were used.
• Fixed HMP support to allow moreconcurrent HMP apps (HMP is a networkprotocol which MPI apps can use if themachines are equipped with Hyperfabric2 cards).
• Fixed the lookup in $PATH of executableswhose full path was not specified. Previously it could use the wrong locationif for example a directory existedin $PATH with the same name as theexecutable.

This document explains the improvementsto the (Ignite-UX) install tool and optionsfor the HP-UX 11.0 Install/Update/Recovery media for the December 2002release. The release of this media doesnot change the HP-UX 11.0 Core softwareor required 11.00 ACE patches from theNovember 1999 release. Please reviewthe following information for changes withthe HP-UX 11.0 Install/Update/Recoverymedia.
Overview• The hardware-enablement patch bundle,
HWE1100, now includes patches requiredfor the new PA8700 systems. The updatedinstall kernels also support the installationof the HP-UX 11.0 Core OS software tothese new PA8700 systems using thelatest I/O adapters supported with bootdevices. The HWE1100 bundle is automatically selected for all configurations(using HP-UX 11.0 Install/Update/Recovery media from June 2001 or later).
• The HP -UX 11.0 Ins ta l l/Upda te/Recovery media now provides updatedinstall kernels that work with install utilityand recovery commands to support
FibreChannel boot devices in additionto the SCSI peripherals. (Note thatHP9000 servers and workstations mayrequire updated system firmware to supportnewer I/O cards and peripherals asboot devices.)
• Software Selection menu now supports the choice of Mass-Storage andNetworking I/O driver products forinstallation with the Basic Configurationchoices and other selected software.

1. Mass-Storage I/O driver productssupport PCI Tachyon TL/TS/XL2 FibreChannel cards (A5158A, A6684A,A6685A, A6795A) and the PCI RAIDcard (A5856A) on several HP9000 systems.2. Networking I/O driver products supportthe 100BT, Gigabit Ethernet, FDDI,HyperFabric, and RS-232 Mux adapterson systems with GSC/HSC and PCIinterfaces.3. The section below provides a list ofselectable drivers that are available onthe current release of the 11.0 Install/Update/Recovery media.
• The Ignite-UX install tool reduces thecomplexity and number of reboots requiredfor the installation of HP-UX 11.0 Core OS software and selected patch bundlesand/or add-on products. 1. A single-pass process to cold-installHP-UX that requires only one reboot (asecond reboot is needed if workstationfirmware needs upgrading). 2. The install utility also enables theselection of network drivers, diagnosticsand HP-UX patch bundles from theSupport Plus CD, and graphics bundlesfrom the Core OS Options CD for
Technical Computing systems during theinitial cold install process. 3. The installation starts with softwarefrom the HP-UX 11.0 Install/Update/Recovery media, the tool thenprompts for the next CD based on otherselected software and configurationoptions.4. System reboot is deferred until theselected software from each CD is installedand configured.
• Ignite-UX now supports configuring"A5856A RAID 4Si" cards on 64-bitOS capable systems. 1. From the "welcome" Ignite-UX screenif you press the "Advanced Options"button, you should see a button"Configure A5856A RAID 4Si cards" onsystems that have this card installed. 2. Pressing this button will run the "irm"utility to configure the card. 3. If you choose to install HPUX to a diskconnected to this card, be sure to alsoinstall the A5856A (I20 RAID) driversoftware that supports it during theinstallation.

Ignite-UX has been updated to versionB.3.8. This latest version includes changesto support VxVM on root file system andchanges to make_*_recovery. This VxVMfeature is only available by selecting thisoption when installing your system fromthe Sept. 2002 release of the 11i OEmedia or from Ignite depots based on thisrelease. For HP-UX 11i, Hewlett-Packard introduceda new method for introducing new coreoperating system functionality. In the pastthis functionality was released using patchesthat were required patch bundles for thenew hardware enablement. There was nochoice for the customer but to take the newfunctionality, regardless of whether it wasdesired.
The HP-UX Software Pack still involves patches,but the patches are only to enable the newsystem functionality. The current new systemfunctionality is delivered via a SoftwareDistributor (SD) bundle, which contains therequired patches. This functionality is delivered via HP Software Depot where acustomer can download the Software Packdirectly. Since December 2001, theSoftware Pack CD-ROM media has beenincluded in all the OE (OperatingEnvironment) media kits periodically. The December 2002 Software Pack mediahas been updated to include the new BaseVERITAS VxFS 3.5 (JFS 3.5 only).

Starting July 01, 2003, the HP Apache-based web server, v.1.3.x, for HP-UX 11iwill no longer be supported by HP. Thismeans no new functionalities or featureswill be released for the HP Apache,v.1.3.x. Future releases for HP Apache,v.1.3.x, will only be available to fix anycritical defeats.
In the meantime, customers should beginthe transition process by taking advantagesof the no-charge, higher performance, andmore flexible HP-Apache, v.2.0.x, for HP-UX 11i. In addition, to assist with thistransition, HP has also created the "migrationguide - HP Apache-based web server version 1.3.x to 2.x," which can be downloaded free of charge at:http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/webservers/apache/techtips/index.html

Additional information regarding vPars:vPars functionality was previously notedthat it was available on the Software Packmedia. This is not the case, and is availablein two ways:
1. Base vPars functionality is availablevia download on the http://software.hp.com web site viathe "hp-ux software pack" link.2. Full vPars functionality is available bypurchasing the vPars product T1335AC)through normal purchasing channels.
Extension Media Process:This process is available so that you mayobtain the latest version of software for theproducts that are in an OE (OperatingEnvironment). While we do not recommendthat you use a more recent version of whathas been tested in the OE, we realize thatsome customers may need the absolutelatest functionality. The majority of the products in the OE are not codeword protected and can be accessed using theApplication Release media; however, forthe few products that are codeword protected, the original system customerwill now receive a generic codeword certificate in the media kit for the particularOE ordered. This generic codeword will
allow you access to the protected bits onthe Application Release media only forthose specific applications that are associated with a particular OE supportcontract. You can order these genericcodeword certificates (which will includethe corresponding Application media)through the existing material request processvia your Software Support Specialist orthrough "Software Update Manager." Therelease name for the Extension Media isEX1202.
The version on the Application Releasemedia may or may not match the versionof the product on the OE media. If a specific OE application updates at thesame time on both the OE media and theApplication media, the versions willmatch. If a specific OE application doesNOT update on the OE and only updateson the Application release media, thenewest version will be on the Applicationmedia.

Automounter mounts directories automaticallywhen users or processes request accessand it unmounts them automatically afterthey have been idle for a period of time(five minutes, by default).In order to assist you with your File Systemplanning, HP would like to inform you thatAutomounter for NFS on HP-UX version 2(11.23) and later releases will not be available. This notice serves as a reminderthat the only releases of HP-UX that willsupport Automounter are HP-UX 11i(11.11) PA-RISC and HP-UX 11i 1.6(11.22) IPF, HP-UX 11.0 and HP-UX 10.20
Discontinuance and SupportAutomounter will continue to be supportedon HP-UX 10.20, 11.0 and 11i versions1.5 and 1.6. This notification is only intendedto assist you in your future file system planning for future releases of HP-UX. A migration guide will be included in the"Installing and Administering NFSServices" user manual and will be madeavailable in 2003.
Replacement InformationHP plans to discontinue Automounter onthe HP-UX 11i version 2 release. AutoFSwill be the replacement product forAutomounter. AutoFS has been in release
since HP-UX 10.30 and has coexisted withAutomounter, so you may be familiar withAutoFS. AutoFS performs many of thesame functions as Automounter but it hasseveral advantages over Automounter:• AutoFS can be used to mount many
types of file systems including NFSProtocol Version 2 and 3, CacheFS,HFS, VxFS, CDFS and LOFS. (Automountercan only mount NFS Protocol version 2)
• With AutoFS, the configured mountpoints are the actual mount points(Automounter mounts directories under/tmp_mnt and creates symbolic linksfrom the configured mount points to themount points /tmp/mnt)
• You do not have to stop AutoFS to changeyour automounter maps. The AutoFSdaemon runs continuously.
