A root canal procedure put simply, saves your natural tooth, usually for your lifetime. When a tooth is damaged, from trauma, an accident, excessive tooth grinding (a nervous habit, usually associated with stress), a cracked tooth due to biting into something or simply from routine use, nerve damage may occur, and root canal therapy can address the nerve damage while saving your natural tooth in the process.

Another reason for a root canal is due to bacteria. It is important to note that we all have upwards of 5 million bacteria of many types swimming around in our mouths. Believe it or not this is natural; the mouth is part of the digestive system. If our immune system is weak, or our health is otherwise compromised, our salivary flow can be reduced and this has an impact on the interaction of bacteria (called plaque) on our teeth.

Generally, daily doses of fluoride from toothpaste and drinking water, as well as flossing, greatly diminishes the amount of plaque on our teeth. Too much plaque buildup causes an acid to be produced which causes “caries”, a word more commonly known as cavities If a small cavity or hole in the tooth is left untreated it can progress towards the inside of the tooth where the nerve and blood supply are located. This is called the pulp area of the tooth. When this occurs and an infection is present it can cause pain and/or swelling, and a root canal is

the generally prescribed treatment for this condition.

While most people do not want or look forward to having a root canal, we all should keep in mind that the best prevention of a root canal is daily flossing and brushing

with a fluoride toothpaste. This will greatly reduce the primary cause for root canal treatment. However, if a root canal is needed and the root canal is treated by an Endodontist, which is a specially trained root canal specialist, there is a 90% chance the treatment will both save your natural tooth and last though one’s lifetime.

Treat your family to this fruity flavored ice-cream delight!

Ingredients1/3 cup apple juice1/3 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar3 Tbsp unsalted margarine3 firm Bosc pears, peeled, halved, cored (about 1 lb)Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Directions1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.2. Arrange the pears cut side up in an 8-inch square glass baking dish. 3. Whisk the apple juice and sugar in a small heavy saucepan over medium-high heat until the sugar dissolves. 4. Whisk in the margarine and pour the sauce over the pears. 5. Bake until the pears are crisp-

tender and beginning to brown, basting occasionally with the juices, about 35 minutes.

Spoon the pears onto plates. Top with ice cream and drizzle with any juices and serve.

NOTE: The pears can also be served frozen. First, cool the pears and then place them in the freezer until frozen solid - about 8 hours.

Australian billionaire Clive Palmer announced that he is building Titanic II in 2012. It’ll be the flagship of Palmer’s cruise company, Blue Star Line.

They’ll launch the Titanic II in 2016 and set sail from Southampton to New York the same year. Titanic expert, Steve Hall, is the Design Consultant and Historian on the project. Titanic interior expert, Daniel Klistorner, is working as the Interior Design Consultant and Historian.

They are working together to make the Titanic II as historically accurate as possible. They claim that the Titanic II will be 96 percent accurate to the original cruise ship. Some of the interior cannot be completely accurate, because fire code laws are stricter and don’t allow for wood paneling. Veneer finish will take it’s place.

The structure of the boat will also be changed in minor ways to make it safer. There will be more sophisticated technology on the ship.
