MINUTES:

Thank you for the snacks and refreshments. Roger Coffey provided the second of two lessons on the history of our extraordinary church building.

GUESTS: None.

FINANCE:

Class expenditures: For any requested class expenditure, please contact a member of the Finance Committee: Bob Russell, Jim Embrey, Dave Grim or Karen Campbell (Emeritus) & Jim McCann.

Since we have not yet sold the paintings that David Cooley generously donated, we are exploring other options of potentially selling them through Zieglers or Richard Neel Interiors. If anyone else has suggestions for methods to sell them, please contact Ed Payton.

SOCIALS:

Drive-In Movie on September 9th When the weather cools, our next social will be to all go to the movies together in our cars, the way we used to do. Well take lawn chairs and sit outside and talk and laugh and eat and drink and (maybe) watch the movie. Perhaps, unlike when we were teens, well all pay for our tickets and no one will sneak in inside the trunk . . . unless I was the only one who did that, in which case I deny the whole thing.

MISSIONS:

WORKING COMPASSION DINNERS DURING AUGUST AND OCTOBER: Our mission projects for August and October will be to work at BAUMCs Compassion Dinners. There are lots of ways in which each of us can serve, depending upon how much time we have available, so watch for the sign-up sheets to come around during class and choose your spot. These are profound experiences that will touch you deeply. If you have questions, please contact Jim Embrey or Glenna Arnott.

Upcoming Maranatha Mission Events:

25th August Compassion Dinner at BAUMC

9th September: Day Center for the Homeless, feeding dinner

13th & 27th October Compassion Dinner at BAUMC

November Open month for mission

December Neighbor for Neighbor, managing families for photos and presents

25 December:Serving Congregational Brunch to whole church before worship

If you know of a mission opportunity that would fit into Maranathas scope of work, let Glenna Arnott or Jim Embrey know so they can look into it for a possible opportunity to serve.

CLASS PRAYER REQUESTS (Joys):

Please give thanks for the following:

Barbara Meehan is thrilled that her daughter Lisa is four and a half weeks from delivering her first grandchild. This babys ancestry will be very well researched!

Paul Staat is overjoyed to be home following extensive treatment at M. D. Anderson and we are delighted that he is back.

Mary Bundren is doubly blessed as their daughter Michelle has become engaged AND her x-rays following her second back surgery show improvement ahead of expected recovery.

Shari Goodwin is optimistic regarding her antibiotic regimen to destroy an extremely rare lung infection as early indications are that it is working.

Kip Jones is extremely thankful for the class members who braved the rain to help him move into his new place.

Members of the Living the Questions Class (many of whom are Maranatha alumnae) will be joining us during the month of September for the all church study on the Five Marks of a Methodist so we will have the pleasure of their company and the benefit of their insight.

CLASS PRAYER REQUESTS (Concerns):

Please keep the following in your prayers:

Nancy Manduano lost her mother (Betty Medley) after a difficult illness this week. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, August 21st at Ninde Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and the funeral will be held Tuesday, August 23rd in Oklahoma City at Village Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m.

David Rose asked for prayer for Bernie Sussmans son who is struggling with drugs.

Bill Thomas asked for prayer for Casey Cooper who lost his son.

Please email our Caranatha Chair Carol Grim at [email protected] and copy our President at [email protected] with concerns that need immediate class response or prayer during the week such as accidents, injuries, deaths, etc. For emergencies, please call Carol at (918) 583-5181 (weekday mornings) or (198) 369-6945 (any other time). For Joys and Concerns to be communicated to the class and incorporated into the newsletter, please email our class mailbox at [email protected]. I will incorporate them into our newsletter and, if time permits, into our class announcements, next week.

CHURCH WIDE PRAYER REQUESTS:

08/14/16Boston Avenue Prayer Ministry: Jesus, look kindly on these children and upon all the children of the world. Let your blessing of love and protection fall on them like dew from the heavens.
