We will see the first day of spring this month as well as the end to the cold weather and snow. It is also the time of year when students start to plan for the upcoming school year. Staff and students will have an opportunity to shake off the cold and contribute to a good cause at our second annual Zumbathon. Ms. Okabe and the dance students at General Wolfe have partnered with Variety, the children’s Charity of Manitoba to raise money for Variety and our dance program. The Zumbathon will take place on Friday, Feb. 28 th . This is a wonderful example of children working to benefit other children. The registration process has begun and students will soon be completing their applications for the 2014/15 school year. Our grade nine students have had the opportunity to hear about and tour several of our local High Schools. There are many opportunities available for our students so it is important that they discuss these options with you. Grade ten applications for next year are available in the Guidance Office and are due back at the beginning of March. Our grade seven and eight students will also be bringing home their applications next week. It is our belief that students should have many different opportunities to explore their interests and talents within the school setting. We are very fortunate at General Wolfe to have an outstanding academic program, as well as talented teachers who are able to offer a variety of optional courses for our students. These optional courses fill up very quickly and are assigned on a first-come-first enrolled basis. Therefore, it is important to hand applications in early. All of our students are working hard on their Edufair projects. Students will be displaying their projects on March 6 th , 2014. All projects will be judged on the morning of the 6 th with a parent evening to follow from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. We would like to extend an invitation to all parents/guardians to join us on the evening of March 6th to view all of the projects. The range of topics this year is again quite impressive. These past two months have also been very busy with basketball and indoor soccer. The players and their coaches appreciate your support in coming to the games and cheering on the teams. Report cards will be coming home on March 21 st . You will be receiving a parent conference form in the report card package. Our conferences are scheduled March 27 th from 1 – 8:30 p.m. We will be scheduling appointments, so please look for the conference form and return to the school as soon as possible. During conferences students will be sharing their Showcase portfolio with you and then you will have a scheduled time to meet with their teacher. I would once again like to extend an invitation to all parents and guardians to join us at our Parent Council meeting on Tuesday, March 13 th at 5:30 p.m. We will be hosting a parent information session following parent council for grade 6 parents interested in learning about General Wolfe School.

Edufair is a school wide inquiry-based learning experience. Every student in the school is expected to create an Edufair project. In late January, students brought home yellow letters explaining their chosen subject area and topic for parents to sign. Congratulations to the many students who won prizes in February for returning their signed forms to school. Edufair Projects provide an opportunity for students to learn about a topic of choice independently. As such, students are expected to work on their project on their own time as well as during sched-uled Edufair work periods, in the library during lunch as well as during homework club (Wednesdays and Thursdays 3:30 to 4 pm) , and in the computer lab during lunch and after school when teacher supervision is offered. Edufair projects are due on March 3. Projects will be set up in the gym on March 5 and Edufair Projects will be judged on March 6 during the morning. Family and friends are invited to view the student’s fabulous completed Edufair projects and their awards during the evening of March 6, from 5:30 to 7:30
