are youNEW?

WHAT TO EXPECT AT STM

WelcomingOur parishioners love meeting new

people and sharing their lives with others. You’ll also be greeted by some of the most welcoming people you’ve ever met at a Church - and we’re not just talking about the Hospitality Team.

Family-focusedIf you have children, they are ALWAYS welcome to celebrate Mass with the community! In fact, our church was

intentionally built without a cry room because we want children at Mass.

We also have a special family bathroom with child-sized “facilities.”

Dynamic WorshipThroughout the Mass, you’ll be

encouraged and invigorated by the community’s full, conscious, and active

participation in the Liturgy. Our community loves to SING!

The Word of God is proclaimed in a dynamic fashion. The homilies are

geared towards loving people where they are - and challenging them to

become better Christians.

A CHURCH UNLIKE ANY OTHERThere’s so much more to talk about! Our parish is a wonderful, dynamic community and we welcome you

to celebrate Liturgy with us this weekend!

It doesn’t matter if this is your first time, 50th time, or first time in 50 years - know that you always have a place to worship,

and a community to belong to at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

New Member Church Tour and Parish History

Join parishioners Cheryl Stock and Sue Stofko at 9:00 am, Saturday, March 7 or March 28 as they lead an informational tour of our campus, beginning with the church.

You will learn about: parish history, architecture, artwork, the chapel, where to park and our church ministries. There will be a walk through Spirit and Chelsea Centers. We wrap up with a question/answer period.

Our Hospitals and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act)

If you or a friend are in Sarasota Memorial or Doctors Hospitals and are looking for spiritual care, there is a procedure you must follow due to the new laws that are now enforced.

If you are at Sarasota Memorial and wish Holy Communion or a visit by the Catholic chaplain you must:

1. Dial 0 and ask for the Chaplain’s Office and request Communion. This chaplain is full-time at the hospital and lives at St. Martha’s Parish. We pay a portion of his salary to ensure our Catholics are seen.

2. If you are going to be there a few days, call the Parish Office and let us know. Father Michal or Father Henry will then visit you. Both priests visit the hospitals once a week. The Chaplain visits every day. It is important to take the above steps, as there no longer is a Catholic parish list available to the priest.

3. The same is required at Doctors Hospital and Hospice.

The laws, though they seem strict, are for the privacy and protection of the hospital patient.

R.C.I. A. students, their sponsors and Bishop Dewane - Rite of Election - At Epiphany Cathedral in Venice

Most of us have heard the story of how God tested Abraham, as reported in our first reading from Genesis. Often there may be various emotional reactions to the situation as it unfolds. However, there are two important aspects of the narrative that we sometimes miss.

Yes, Abraham was tested, but so was his son Isaac. It would seem that Isaac was a willing participant in the ordeal. Isaac clearly did not protest nor resist lying on the altar in preparation for what would occur. Isaac offers an example of one of the basic tenets of stewardship: he trusted completely in God (and in his father, as well). That kind of total trust is difficult, but if we do not trust in the Lord, it is hard for us to make the kind of commitment to stewardship and discipleship the Lord wants from us.

The other feature of this story we sometimes miss is the parallel between Abraham and his son, and what would occur between God and His only son, Jesus Christ. Everything from the mountain to hauling the wood up the mountain to the father sacrificing his son to deliverance from death is reminiscent of Christ’s sacrifice for us, and God’s willingness to offer “His only begotten Son, that those who believe in him may not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) www.thecatholicsteward.com

Helping Hands Ministry Get involved! Ministry Contact: Kelley Vanden Heuvel 941-923-3670; [email protected]

This ministry reaches out to those in need (recovering from health issues, post- partum moms, grieving families and more) and offers meals and other assistance.

We are greatly in need of volunteers. This is a ministry that volunteers find rewarding - helping those in need. You will not be asked for any long-term commitment, just able to help out occa-sionally.

Yes, you must be fingerprinted, but we do not publish the results and you are reimbursed for the cost. Yes, you have to have required Safe Environment Training.

Sounds like an inconvenience? Having completed these painless requirements safeguards you as well as the Parish.

From Fr. HenryI would like to thank these 50 parishioners who gave their time, talent and sweat labor to get my new

home ready for me. They are listed below. There are about 20 people whose names fell through the cracks, as they did not see the sign in

sheets. I wish to write to all who volunteered. If you are not listed below, please contact Susan at the Parish Office (941-923-1691).

This past Monday I met with Bishop Dewane and as of then, a new pastor had not been named for St. Thomas More Parish or the other two parishes.
