2 Father’s Focus Safety Precautions… Our world is full of them. And, I can think of a few of them off the top of my head: always wear a seatbelt while driving, have fire alarms placed throughout the house, be sure to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle or bi-cycle… to just name a few. All these safety precautions have a commonality: they are meant to protect us, to keep us safe from danger, and to prevent a tragedy. And yet, the necessity of safety precautions are not just for the physical world we live in, they are also essential for the technological world that has become a real part of our lives in the 21st century. So much of our day and so much of our time is spent on our phones, tablets, and devices, and this access to the world of technology now in-cludes all ages and demographics. Much good has come from this reality… Google Maps at the palm of our hands, the ability to call for help when our car breaks down, and the list goes on and on. But it should not be a secret to us that technology also has a dark, dangerous side that threatens the holiness and the purity of our souls and our relationships with those closest to us. All it takes is a few wrong clicks before disaster and sin ensues. Bishop Kemme, Fr. Jarrod, Fr. Isaac, and I wish to bring this particular danger to your attention. It is not an easy one to discuss, but it’s important. The danger is pornography. The Fourth Sunday of Lent (March 30-31) at St. Francis, and throughout the diocese, will be Safe Haven Sunday, with the theme being “Equipping the Family, Safe-guarding Children.” This parish and diocesan awareness effort is meant to draw our attention to the seriousness of pornography and to provide an opportunity to recommit ourselves to ensuring that our homes are truly safe havens of holiness and virtue. In the pews, there will be resources available for you and your family, including a small book that speaks about how to talk to your children about Internet dangers and how to find potential filtering programs for your devices. Allow me to close with a bold challenge to the men, the husbands, and the fa-thers of this parish. Protect your families from the serious and addictive danger of
pornography! Be the one to put safety precautions (Covenant Eyes or another filtering program) on all the technological devices in your homes, from the family computer, to your child’s smartphone, to your own personal devices. And what will the result be? Just like wearing your seatbelt can save you life, so too can a filtering system save a mar-riage, prevent unintended exposure by an innocent child, help break an addiction, and provide a family a truly safe and holy environment. May St. Joseph, St. Michael the Archangel, and St. Francis of Assisi intercede for our parish family as we strive for the purity of holiness!
Fr. Labenz
Our Compassion Without Borders group here at St Francis would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ash Wednesday collection. All funds that were received that day will be sent to India to the Diocese of Khammam to aid in clean water projects. The total collected was $8,225.

Operations Council Almsgiving is an action that can be associated with Lent. Denying ourselves of a material pleasure, is a sacrificial act any time of year. During this Lenten season, let us recommit to giving of our first fruits as good stewards. Everyone is asked to make a proportional gift, as a grateful response for all the Lord has done for us.
The Operations/Stewardship Council
April 11-12 the diocese is hosting the My Life with Jesus con-ference at the Spiritual Life Center. Come spend this time renewing your life with Jesus through a deeper appreciation and understanding of stewardship. Be inspired to share this encounter with family, parish, and community! Wichita Adore Ministries will open and close the conference with Adoration. “Our Church talks about being a missionary disciple, but what does this look like?” In his keynote talk Kevin will highlight the topic of missionary discipleship, share the Church’s vision for evangelization as well as practical ways to live it out in your diocese, your parish, and your everyday life. “The next chapter of any thriving stewardship parish is the discipling of stewards with a personal, passionate relationship with Jesus, which Pope Francis invites each one of us daily: ‘a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting him encounter them.’” In his talk, Fr. Jirak will share Next Level Stewardship and the connection between Stewardship, Discipleship and the New Evangelization. SUPPORT GUADALUPE CLINIC AT THUNDER HOCKEY Guadalupe Clinic invites you to celebrate the first Wichita Thunder Hockey Game on Friday, March 29 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase in the vestibule after each Mass this weekend. Tickets are a donation of $10 and in-clude a FREE LED Cheer Stick. All proceeds provide nec-essary healthcare for uninsured people in our community. Please join us for a wonderful family outing. If you can’t make the game, consider making a donation and your tickets will be distributed to our patients and their families. Call Alley at (316) 264-8974 ext. 213, or email: [email protected]. Guadalupe Clinic provides a doctor’s visit, lab tests, x-rays, medication and other services all for a requested $5 donation. Because of YOUR support and generosity, no one is ever turned away! We can always use additional medical/administrative volunteers, if you would to donate your time and talents, go to www.guadalupeclinic.org for more information about volunteer opportunities or to make an online gift. Thank you in advance for all your sup-port. God bless you! CARMELITE SISTERS FOR THE AGED AND IN-FIRMED TRAINING The Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirmed will be hold-ing a one-day training for priests, religious, Eucharistic minis-ters, and lay persons who work to provide spiritual care for those who are confined, sick or dying in homes, hospitals and nursery homes. The training will be Saturday, April 6 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Spiritual Life Center. Cost is $25.00 and includes lunch and a participation manual. We hope to have a team from St. Francis of Assisi attend the conference and use their knowledge to reach out to the ill and homebound of the parish and to bring the hope and consulta-tion of Christ to their daily lives. This ministry will not take the place of weekly communion visitations to the homebound and nursing homes, but rather be an added time of prayer, visit, and perhaps provide caregivers time to themselves. It may also include communion.
MASS OF HEALING AND ANOINTING There will be a Mass of Healing and Anointing, Thursday March 21 at 11:00 a.m. All in the parish are invited to attend. Harvest House will have a potluck luncheon and meeting following in St. Clare Hall. If you are 55 and over and would like to join us for the luncheon please bring a covered dish to share. For more information please call Mardella at 722-4179 or Colleen at 722-5008.
