Calls placed to Nashville’s Renaissance and Hilton hotels this morning illuminated that reality. Typically booked to capacity well in advance of seminar, both facilities still have rooms available at prices ranging from $169 to $299. (Some restrictions apply.) The good news for those considering making a last-minute career investment, beyond the availability of rooms, is that CRB has instituted a number of ways for aspiring attendees to participate. The discounted all-in rate remains $699 (www.crb. org), and there are other opportunities to take in portions of the event, as well. Limited seating is still available for the Country Music DJ & Radio Hall of Fame dinner tomorrow ($105 a seat), the Seth Godin keynote address ($40) on Wednesday, Thursday’s Town Meeting Day ($265) and Friday’s Radio Sales Day ($370, includes New Faces). Attendees will also get to see the two-hour tribute to CRS compiled by the omnipresent Art Vuolo. In addition to playing in the Renaissance and Hilton hotels, the WCRS-TV DVD is included the bags attendees receive at registration. For those looking to participate at prices somewhere south of those numbers, CRB is posting a handful of CRS-40 panels in streaming video at www.crb.org. Available Thursday afternoon: “Talent with a Capital ‘T’,” “40 Great Programming Ideas in 40 Minutes” and “40 New Media Panels.” Available Friday afternoon: “Music Scheduling For Dummies” and “40 Promotional Ideas To Rev Up Revenue.” And there’s at least one entrant in the virtual after-hours race: Mercury’s Jamey Johnson. After the Wednesday morning “Downtown Shutdown” outside the Nashville Convention Center (11:30am), Johnson will perform Thursday night at The Stage, and the show will be streamed live via his website www.jameyjohnson.com. Viewers will need the free Microsoft Silverlight player. Last but not least – and speaking of free – the seminar’s first official unofficial event kicks off at 12:30pm tomorrow at the Country Music Hall of Fame. The Albright & O’Malley Pre-CRS Client Seminar is free to all, save those in competitive situations with A&O clients. Email Mike (mike@ albrightandomalley.com) or Jaye (jaye@albrightandomalley. com) for your invitation. We’ll see you there...and everywhere. In fact, whether you’re at the seminar or back in the office, Country Aircheck will be your eyes and ears through the CRS Daily Buzz, distributed on-site and via email to all CA subscribers. Denver Down To One Paper Friday’s final edition of the Rocky Mountain News made national headlines and Denver locals snapped up copies as keepsakes. The paper’s demise also highlighted a continuing media trend, one that certainly affects radio in the ongoing competition for local ad dollars. “For people who have lived in Colorado all their lives, it’s a very sad day,” says KYGO/Denver PD Joel Burke. “The Rocky Mountain News would have been 150 years old in a couple of months. The paper not only reported historic events, but is actually part of Colorado history!” Navigating a one-paper town (Denver Post), might not be that different from the previous two-sheet landscape. “The News has been losing a lot of money for a long time,” Burke continues, “so, it’s really hard to tell what if any impact it will have on the local advertising market.”

Hill Departs WGNE Renda WGNE/Jacksonville PD/afternooner Randy Hill has exited the station he joined in July of last year. Hill made

the jump to Jacksonville from AC WCJK/Nashville. “It’s tough, but I want to thank everyone at Renda Broadcasting/Jacksonville for the opportunity to take the station to the next level,” Hill says. “I wish them all the best.” Reach him at 615-308-2726 or at [email protected].

My Tunes: Music ThaT shaped My Life Love And Theft’s Brian Bandas discusses his most important songs, artists or concerts: 1. Boyz II Men: I was in elementary school and it was my first concert. I didn’t know why but I just had to meet them afterwards. I made my dad drive me around trying to find them after the show, to no avail. It was the first reflection of the deep seeds of passion for music and performance.2. Michael W. Smith: When I was in seventh

grade my friend Wes played me MSW on the piano. I immediately had him teach me, and learned song after song from MWS piano books. We shared an unhealthy obsession with Smitty that set me down a determined musical path.3. Goo Goo Dolls/Black Balloon: This song was huge for me. It just clicked. Whatever Johnny had just done to me by way of song, I knew I had to do to others. I started playing guitar and writing with vigor. That was it!4. Robert Plant and Allison Krauss, Raising Sand: This has recently given me new inspiration as far as writing and production. It’s the perfect blend of old school and progressive thinking and I love it! Every one should buy it, it’s a classic.5. Rolling Stones, Exile On Main St.: I love it because it’s blues, rock and country. The further back you go the more these genres become one. They all seem to come from the same place and this album is, to me, a prime example of how universal music truly is.A highly regarded song or album you’ve never heard:I still owe Johnny Cash’s At Folsom Prison a good listen. I’ve heard bits and pieces and loved what I’ve heard but haven’t listened through. In fact, I think I’ll do that today. An “important” piece of music you just don’t get:Never Mind the Bullocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols I know they were pioneers but I just don't get it. I listened once because it's a classic but I probably won't again. An album you played or listened to incessantly:I’ve never listened to any album more than I listened to Dizzy Up The Girl by the Goo Goo Dolls when I discovered it. The melodies are unbelievable. I absolutely devoured it for months on end! One obscure or non-country song everyone should listen to right now: Don McLean/Castles In the Air — Just sit back, close your eyes and let it soothe you.

Harvey: The Best Of The Story The passing of Paul Harvey Saturday (2/28) leaves broadcasters searching for the words to express the impact he

had on them. Former ABC SVP/Worldwide Distribution TJ Lambert, now an executive with Radiolicious, told Country Aircheck, “So many Country stations featured Mr. Harvey for years. As a listener and as a rep, when I got the news, it stopped me in my tracks; I couldn’t believe it. The words ‘legendary’ and ‘iconic’ get thrown around a lot, but not with him, and,

for that matter, his whole family. Most don’t know that when Paul Harvey said, ‘Good morning, Americans!’ he’d also say, ‘Good morning, Canadians!’ through Broadcast News. Even when Mr. Harvey wasn’t feeling well, if he could go on the air, he would. He was the face of ABC.” Former ABC Atlanta Radio Group President/GM Victor Sansone also has fond memories: “I’d met Paul and had been in his company many times in the Capital Cities/ABC days. He and his [late] wife, Angel [Lynne Cooper Harvey], were inseparable, and they would come to some of the dinner events at the Arizona Biltmore [where they also lived]. They just commanded respect, and the room always felt different with them in it. He was a great speaker, as you would guess, and Paul was always gracious, even to guys out of News/Talk like me.”
