SOLE BURNER 2019
Dear Westside Families,
Cancer affects so many. At Westside, over the past few years, this terrible disease has affected students, staff, our fathers, our mothers, our grandparents, our husbands, and many other family members and friends. That is why the Westside student council has chosen to support the American Cancer Society. PLEASE join our team “Westside” on Saturday, May 11th as staff and students walk/run the Sole Burner. The morning is filled with many activities for kids including a Fun Run (1K or 1 mile), plus many kid activities such as creating wood projects from Home Depot, face painting, riding the train, dancing, and more! Please check out the Sole Burner website (SoleBurner.org) for loads of details. Cost for the Kids Run is $15.00 per child and the cool thing is $10.00 of this will go right to pediatric cancer! The Kids Run starts at 8:15am. Students will need to be accompanied by an adult for this event. Parents are also encouraged to run or walk this grand event as we make a difference. After the Kids Run is the 5K Walk/Run....kids may participate in this at no extra cost with their family. Adult entry fee is $30, with a rate increase to $35 after May 6th. This race is chipped timed! Please check out the Sole Burner website for more details on this race also! I Sign up online (www.soleburner.org) for “WESTSIDE ELEMENTARY” in honor and memory of all those affected by cancer... If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call, email or send a note.
The Westside Student Council PS. If you register by April 1st your Sole Burner race t-shirt will include “Backprinting” for “Team Westside”. See the sample of backprinting attached!

Bingo night is quickly approaching and is PTO’s biggest fundraiser of the year!! With donations from
your family Bingo night is sure to be a success!! This year’s funds will help to replace the cracked slide on the back playground! Bingo night is super exciting and fun for children and parents with lots
of free prizes to be given away! We hope you can join us on April 5th!!
Each classroom teacher has chosen a theme basket for their class to donate towards. We would greatly appreciate if your family would be willing to donate an item or two that corresponds to your classroom’s theme. Items do need to be in NEW condition, and if you are donating food, it must
come in the factory sealed packaging.
Donations can be brought into your child’s classroom teacher until March 22nd. PTO will collect all of the donations and put together the raffle baskets to be raffled off during Bingo night!!
We are also looking for volunteers to make Bingo night a success. Please follow this link to volunteer your valuable time! We truly appreciate all of your help! Events like this one are not possible if we do
not have the support from parent volunteers like you!! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0549aaac23a6fe3-bingo

The Kimberly Area School District is dedicated to providing the safest environment for our students and staff. During the 2018-19 school year, schools will be implementing a new secure access system, commonly known as a “buzz-in entry”. HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:
● All visitors (including family members, volunteers, and vendors are required to follow the buzz-in procedure during the school day.)
● When you arrive, press the button on the intercom. Guests may be asked to present a government issued ID to the security camera.
● A staff member may ask you some clarifying questions before granting access to the building.
● Once inside, continue to sign in at the office and wear a visitor badge while in the school.
● Anyone unfamiliar with the buzz-in procedure can refer to instructions posted at the main entrance of the school.
● We realize this system will require a change in practice from staff, families, and visitors.
● Thank you for your support as we work to create the safest learning environment possible.

5 Reasons to Try TENNIS This Summer
It’s individual. Our players love that tennis is a perfect
match of their own strengths and
weaknesses against an opponent’s. Win or
lose, the beauty of tennis is that players
know they are solely responsible for the
outcome.
It’s a brain game. More than other sports, tennis is a match of
intellect. It requires real-time problem
solving, analysis, strategizing, & execution.
It teaches emotional control. To be successful, tennis requires players to
be in control of their emotions. They must
learn to cope with setbacks, recover quickly
from failures, and calm their emotions.
They will play it for the rest of their lives. Tennis is a sport that players can grow in the
rest of their lives. While their friends
remember their sports as part of childhood,
tennis players take the competition, health,
and social benefits well into adulthood
where they can continue to play at a
competitive level.
It’s safe. Tennis is a non-contact way for players to
sharpen their agility, endurance, hand-eye
coordination and athleticism.
