The New and Old Uxbridge High School! So word on the
street is that they are
creating a new high
school. What is going to

school? Where is this
school? Why is it dif-
ferent than the old
school? My partner and
I plan to tell you all
about this BRAND
NEW HIGH SCHOOL!
This school has
three floors. There are
so many more classes

play on a smaller
court and you use a
wooden paddle.

outside of school?

grades will go to the old
high school. Third grade
through fifth is going to be
at Whitin Middle School.
Lastly, kindergarten
through second grade will
stay at Taft. This new high
school is on Quaker High-
way. It is way more ad-
vanced than the old high
school because there are-
more choices for classes.
For almost every class, you
can choose from regu-
lar class, medium class,
advanced class, and the
skillsbuilder class.

If I Were Principal...
If you were principal in Whitin for the day, what would you do? We interviewed some students to ask them
what they would do for a day.
“If I were principal for the day, I would give out free candy and have no homework. ” -Callie Bucchino
“I would make the lockers bigger and extend lunch time.” -Courtney Bond
“Shorten up the homework, make lunch more fun, have a long recess, and shorten up the time for subjects.” -Lucais

Rachel’s Challenge by Callie Bucchnio
On April 20, 1999,
the worst school shooting
in the United States hap-
pened. The shooting was at
Columbine High School in
Colorado. Many people
were killed and a few were
injured. The first person to
be shot was Rachel Scott.
She was sitting outside eat-
ing lunch with a friend
when the shooters came out
of the entrance to the
school building because
they planned to kill all the
students rushing out of the
building. Rachel never got a
chance to run away. She al-
ways dreamed big and encour-
aged others to dream big too.
She and her brother loved to
wear hats. If you were feeling
down, Rachel would try her
best to cheer you up. Rachel
had a dream that she would
change people’s lives. On the
back of her dresser in her
room she traced her hands
and wrote, ‘These hands will
someday touch the hearts of
many and change lives.’ Some-
how she knew that she was
going to change many people
and the way they live. Rachel
Scott was a real role model
and will still be remembered
today.

action” - Written in Rachel

Chapter 4
The Changing
World is what the
society of my kind is
called. Yeah, my
kind. It still sounds
weird to me. We live
secretly; for the
first thirteen years
we are dormant. We
look the same as any
other human, and
our power has not
awakened.
On the night
of a Changling‟s
thirteenth birthday,
they have a Dream.
The Dream is one of
those dreams you
will remember for
the rest of your
life, and it is usually
the best dream you
will have.
Some people
dream of shape
shifting, like me, or
others dream of fly-
ing; some dream
they can control wa-
ter, air, earth, and
fire, but it all de-
pends on your first
power. Every month
you have another
dream and a new
power is added to
your abilities. There
is also a cycle. If a
Changling gets ele-
mental powers, the
next in the cycle is
flying, then invisibil-
ity, and so on. On
the second month, a
new power is added
to the repertoire of
the person. They
will have two abili-
ties.
Once Chan-
glings have the
dream and has met
their teacher, they
start lessons. The
lessons include Man-
aging Your Powers,
Changing World
Terms, and Purpose.
At every
Changling‟s birth,
they are given a
Purpose. A Purpose
is what you are go-
ing to do with your
powers, your des-
tiny, and your life—
which is mostly
planned for you.
Caitlyn‟s Purpose is
to help me with
mine. What‟s mine?
No clue. She would
not tell me!
“Okay, so let
me get this
straight,” I say “I
have an extremely
important Purpose
but you can‟t tell
me? Why?”
“C„mon,
Aleeya! We‟ve gone
through this! I don‟t know!” she shouts
exasperated.
“So, you‟re my
teacher, right?
When does „school‟
start?” I ask.
“We can start
today if you want,”
Caitlyn shrugs.
“Sure, my
house or yours?” I
say as we start to
walk.
“My mom
knows about this, so
it should be my
house,” Caitlyn ex-
plains.
“Okay.”
We walk down
the road in silence.
I‟m wrapped up in
my thoughts. How did this happen to me? Why doesn‟t my

mom know? What‟s my Purpose? So now I can control elements… how does that work? We
are blocked by a large
plowed snow bank. I
picture it melting in
my mind. It suddenly
starts to get smaller
and smaller and water
pools at our feet.
Caitlyn looks at
me quizzically.
“Did you do
that?” she asks. I grin
at her.
“Yup!” I reply.
“Good job, but
you can‟t use your pow-
ers in public like that.
People don‟t know
about these things,”
Caitlyn scolds. I apolo-
gize, and we continue
on to my house.
When we get to
my house my mom still
isn‟t home, so we go up
to my room to start
lessons.
“What‟s first?”
I ask. Caitlyn shrugs
so we decide together.
Eventually we decide
on Managing Your Pow-
ers.

My Story
By Emily Fernandes
Every night you close
your eyes, but what
do you see? Nothing.
But what if you saw
something other than
black? What if you
saw yourself, sitting
on a bench? Just sit-
ting there...and then
you see a strange
man. A man who gives
you a feeling that you
know him, but he
doesn‟t know you. You
wait for a hello, but
nothing is said. Then
you find yourself on a
bus, waiting for your
stop, but it never
comes. You wish you
were home by the
fire with your Aunt
Libby. You miss her a
lot right about now.
She always makes
you feel wanted and
loved. Still, your stop
hasn‟t come yet. You
wonder why. Usually
you‟re home by now
with Aunt Libby and
your pets, Jasper,
Ozzy, and Harry.
Jasper and Harry are
your dogs, and Ozzy
is your fish. Your fa-
vorite thing about
yourself is your jazz
hat. You love every-
thing about how it
suits you. You love
everything, but your
pets are your only
friends, so is your
Aunt Libby….
What
if you saw
that?

This gourmet Banana Bread recipe was sent in
from a fifth grader at Whitin Middle school. I
have made this banana bread, and it is awe-
some. I loved it. It reminded me of a very spe-
cial place. Keep sending in the recipes, and I
will test each one and put it into the newspa-

Video Game Review by Jacob Robbins
This is the 3rd video game review and in my opinion the best. A recog-
nizable name for HALO fans everywhere is the platinum selling HALO
WARS. This RTS (real time strategy) game is not like the normal
HALO game. The game puts you in the place of a high ranking com-
mander. You can create, and command your Spartan or Covenant army
with the click of a button. Though people will tell you that the game is
horrible, it is almost a re-creation of RTS, plastic army men. It is sold
everywhere, so play and destroy the Profit of Truth.
Book Review Bridge To Terabithia This book is about a boy named Jess who became very good friends
with a girl named Leslie. They created their own world called Terabithia. They had their own
castle and spirits. One day it was raining and Leslie tried to go to Terabithia but slipped and
died. Jess was very upset. To find out more about the book……. READ IT!!!!

it really gets on your
nerves. If he or she still
does it, your next option
would be to tell a teacher,
but before doing that, try
to make it stop on your
own. A fact to be noted is
that a bully usually wants
you to react, but if don‟t
give him the time of day
or just laugh at what he
says, he will move on.
Kamaldeep Kaur
Hi, Kamal.
I am having a problem with
my friends forcing peer
pressure on me. I end up
making decisions that I
don‟t want to make be-
cause they think it is a
good idea. What should I
do?
I think that you should
stand up for yourself and
say that you don‟t want to
do that. This is very im-
portant because if they
make you do something
bad, and you get caught,
you could get into serious
trouble. Also, by standing
up for yourself, you will
build up self-confidence,
and your friends will have
more respect for you.

Kamaldeep Kaur
Hi,Kamal.
I have a problem with
someone in my class. He
keeps saying things to me
that he knows really get
on my nerves, but it is not
enough to be considered
bullying. How do I deal
with it? How do I tell him
to stop?
I think at first you should
try your best to ignore
him. However, if it gets
too serious, try to talk to
him or her and explain how
