The Sacramento County 4-H Program has many different opportunities for their members to pursue. This includes one opportunity very important to me which is earning my Emerald Star Award.
Besides pursuing my role on the Teen Leader Awareness Team (TLA), I am also pursuing my goal of earning my Emerald Star Award. The Emerald Star a County award for service to the community or to 4-H. It is completely separate from any other Star Rank. The Emerald Star is designed to help members grow and improve their leadership skills by planning an event above the club level. In order to receive this award, I am planning a Fundraising Dinner and Silent Auction benefiting the Sacramento 4-H County Horse Project.
This event is Saturday, May 11th at the Herald Barn (12746 Ivie Rd. Herald, CA 95632). Admission will be $30 and the doors open at 6:00 p.m. The dinner includes drinks, appetizers, main dish, and dessert.
The theme for this dinner will be Hawaiian, so be sure to wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt!
If you would like purchase tickets please call me at (916) 687-8225 or email me at [email protected].
This will truly be an amazing night and I hope to see you there!

Hello Sacramento County!
An update about the Sacramento County Banner Committees below, from your 2012-2013 All Star, Rachel Ricchiuto:
In honor of 4-H’s centennial in California, each county in California has been asked to create and decorate a banner to represent them at this year’s State Field Day. I volunteered to chair the two committees working on Sacramento County’s banner. Over the past month the Banner Design and Banner Assembly committees have been working on our banner. The design committee came up with designs for the front and back of the banner. The Special Hi 4-H Event Banner Assembly Committee met on March 17, 2013 to put together all of the pieces. The finished product will be presented and displayed at State Field Day at UC Davis on May 25, 2013; watch for it hanging from Wellman Hall!
I would like to extend a thank you to everyone who helped on the design committee: Tara Coupe, Michelle Wong, Grace Hanson, Madison Hanson, Robbie Henkens, Carol Abrams, and Carolyn Ricchiuto. Also thank you to everyone who served on the Assembly Committee: Christina Wagner, Carol Abrams, Tara Coupe, Grace Hanson, Madison Hanson, Robbie Henkens, Lauren Henkens, Gabriel Ricchiuto, and Carolyn Ricchiuto. I could not have pulled this together without all of you! I would like to extend a special thank you to Tara Coupe, who took our sketches from the design committee and recreated them digitally and also facilitated the printing of the final designs chosen for the front and back of the banner. Secondly, a special thank you goes to Melanie Coupe who runs Wilton Sign Shop for the generous donation of the materials and labor in the printing of the
All Star Update
The almost finished back of the banner.

The county fair is looking for sponsors for the buckles for master showmanship and other awards. If you are interested in sponsoring or know someone that is, please contact Jen Henkens.
New this year...Carnival wristbands will be available for youth exhibitors for $29.50 and will be good for the entire fair. They must be purchased at the time the entry is submitted to the fair.

4-H State Leadership Conference July 25-28, 2013 UC Davis
The 4-H State Leadership Conference brings together high school youth from across California in a four-day leadership training, networking, and learning experience. The Conference provides advanced leadership training and is an opportunity for 4-H members to network and share ideas with other 4-H’ers from across the state. The Conference focuses on providing high school youth with experiential education on leadership development, civic engagement, college admissions, and other 4-H project areas.
Youth delegates gain exposure to the campus by living in the residence halls, eating in the dining commons, and participating in educational sessions, many of which are taught by UC faculty and staff.
The Conference is planned by a team of high school 4-H members and adult advisors. Working in strong youth-adult partnership, the team designs the educational, recreational, and logistical components of the Conference.
Participants must have graduated 8th grade in order to attend (ages 13-19).

Have you heard?
About the Revolution?
Happening right here in 4-H...
California 4-H Centennial 2013 marks the centennial for 4-H in California, an important milestone for an organization that is deeply connected to communities throughout the State. Core to the 4-H experience is service learning, which takes the form of youth-designed, youth-led projects where participants learn leadership by leading, collaboration through collaborating, and the importance of civic engagement by actively seeking opportunities to make a difference in their communities. The Revolution of Responsibility Centennial Campaign will celebrate the power of California 4-H youth taking action through an ambitious statewide program that will fund 1,000 service learning projects at $1,000 each through the end of 2013. It will also provide an opportunity to re-connect with an estimated one million past 4-H participants living in California, engaging them as volunteers, donors, and advocates.
Revolution of Responsibility California 4-H $1,000 for 1,000 Service Learning Projects The University of California 4-H Youth Development Program is dedicated to fostering an environment where youth and adults work together as equal partners to gain new skills and create positive community change. 4-H groups can apply for up to $1,000 to identify, plan, and carry out a service-learning project in their community. Projects will be focused on the three key content areas that form the core of all 4-H programs, Science, Healthy Living, and Citizenship. Review date deadlines: May 15, July 15, September 15, November 15. To learn more about the Revolution of Responsibility visit: http://www.ca4h.org/Support/RofR/
