GOSPEL REFLECTION- Fourth Sunday of Lent-I am the light of the world (John Ch.9). It is a heart toughing account of the self-realization of a man born blind, and the joy of man meeting God, the owner of his life. The man born blind is a man with Divine light within Him. Jesus, the light of the world, touches him and the light within him is brought forth. He did not have an iota of doubt in his mind when he was asked to go to the pool of Siloam. Jesus does not seem to help him find his way to the pool either. He goes with a mind full of light, washes exactly as he was asked by Jesus, gets his blindness from birth cured and returns. Now, he doesn’t know where and who Jesus is. He knows only one thing that it was the man called Jesus who made paste, put it over his eyes, asked him to go and wash, he obeyed and received sight. The joy of the man after realizing the power of his inner light is something that we should visualize. He must have seen his reflection in the water first, seeing the image of God within him, then the whole creation of God. He gains extraordinary courage to become a witness to Christ. This is a transformation that should happen in each one of us. We very often are unaware of the power of the image of God within us and the wonderful light God has instilled in our being. There is the meeting of the man and Jesus after his transformation and enlightenment. This is heart touching. The creator and the created, God and man, to be more precise, the Father and the son meet and find themselves inseparable. This is the truth about our life. Away from God we remain blind. We are complete and harmonious only through Him, with Him and in Him. Are we not blind sometimes like the disciples who thought all sickness were due to the sin of the sick or that of their parents? Let us think with Jesus and be convinced of the truth that our sickness and problems are for the works of God to be revealed in our lives. Aren’t we sometimes like the pharisees who thought they were able to see? In fact, they were blind and the light within them had become darkness. Has the light of God in us become darkness due to our self-righteous or pharisaic attitude? Then, of course, Jesus would tell us the same thing He told the pharisees, “It is for judgement the I have come into this world, that those without sight may see and those with sight may become blind”. Let us confess to the Lord our blindness of the inability to see ourselves as we really are and see others as they really are. The Lord will cure us with His touch, and we will see the Lord as our God and gain sight to see everything and everybody as they really are. Fr. Issac Tharayil CMI COVID-19 UPDATE!
