Liturgical Celebrations

Cardinal DiNardo has encouraged all parishes in the

Archdiocese to maintain some degree of normalcy in the

midst of the current health crisis. He is recommending

that each parish continue to maintain their regular Mass

schedules for all those who wish to participate. All

parishioners who are uncomfortable about attending

Sunday Mass due to the coronavirus are excused from

the obligation to attend. In addition, if a parishioner is in

the higher risk category due to current illness, age or

suffering from a chronic health condition or compromised

immune system, they are also asked to remain at home.

Mary Queen Parish has made the following decisions

based on the current information and

recommendations received from the Archdiocese.

 The nursery will be closed

The Children’s Liturgy of the Word is suspended

The Men’s ACTS Retreat has been postponedTBD

The Mary Queen Festival has been postponed and

will be celebrated on November 8th and will

combine this year with the Annual Parish Picnic.

The K of C Fish Fry will be takeout orders only

Coffee and donuts have been suspended.

Elementary Faith Formation, RCIA, EDGE and

Lifeteen have been suspended until further notice

and will follow the recommendations of FISD.

Many of the small groups that meet will continue to

meet, however, bringing in food is discouraged for

group meetings.

Stations of the Cross are still scheduled as planned.

La Salette Reflections

Fr. Rene Butler, M.S

Wayne Vanasse

Anointing

(4

th

Sunday of Lent: 1 Samuel 16:113; Ephesians 5:8

14; John 9:114)

David was anointed with oil by Samuel, and “from that

day on, the spirit of the Lord rushed upon David.” One

of the many peaceful images in today’s Psalm is, “You

anoint my head with oil.”

Jesus made mud and spread it on the eyes of the blind

man. Because of the material used, it is hard to

recognize this gesture as anointing. But it is hard to

see it otherwise when we consider its purpose. Jesus

says the man was born blind “so that the works of God

might be made visible through him.”

He adds, “While I am in the world, I am the light of the

world.” St. Paul applies the same idea to us: “You were

once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord...

Take no part in the fruitless works of darkness.”

At La Salette, Mary, who was “all light,” empowered

two children to accomplish a mission. That, too, was a

kind of anointing. And her message reminds us of our

Christian identity, sadly neglected by so many of those

she calls “my people,” but who are still caught up in

darkness.

All of us were anointed in the name of Christ, not once

but twice, in the sacrament of Baptism, with the oil of

salvation, so that we might “live always as a member of

his body, sharing everlasting life.”

Indeed, it is only through the Beautiful Lady’s Son that

we can hope to produce, as St. Paul writes, “every kind

of goodness and righteousness and truth.” We can look

to Jesus to guide us in right paths for his name’s sake.

The story of the man born blind raises many

questionssixteen, to be exactmost notably: What

do you have to say about Jesus? Do you want to be his

disciple? Do you believe in the Son of Man? Who is he,

that I may believe in him?

We would do well to reflect privately on these

questions. It might, however, be more interesting,

stimulating and profitable to ask them of each other,

perhaps in a time of faithsharing.

The “La Salette question” is: Do you say your prayers

well? In prayer let us present ourselves to be anointed,

so that, through us, “the works of God might be made

visible.” A noble ambition, indeed!

Alpha is an opportunity to explore life

and the Catholic Christian faith in a

friendly, open and informal setting. It

offers an opportunity to consider what

we believe, why we believe it, and

what it has to do with how we live.We

revisit our most basic Christian beliefs

and renew our openness to the Holy Spirit to be active in

our daily lives. Alpha is designed to meet everyone

where they are and invite them to grow even closer to

Jesus. The next Alpha is on Saturday, March 28th

from 7:00 9:00 pm in the Main Hall. Do not worry

about your dinner on these Saturdays dinner will be

served. You will get to know happy, loving people around

a dinner table and together we will watch a video on a

topic of the very basics of Christianity. After the video,

there will be time to have a conversation about the

content of the video.

I humbly request each one of you to become part of

Alpha, in these THREE ways:

Three Names: This week, I ask you to pray for the three

people in your lives, whom you think especially need to

gain faith or deepen their faith. This week, pray for these

individuals and for your own renewal of faith.

Personal Invitation: As part of your Lenten commitment,

I ask you take on this gentle and generous task of

personally inviting those three people to attend Alpha.

Meet with them and assure them that you will accompany

them.

Prayer: 11:02 (In Gospel of Luke 11:02, Jesus said, “…

thy Kingdom come”). We ask you to set an alarm on your

cell phone for 11:02 AM or PM. When the alarm goes off,

pause, and pray for the three people you have invited to

Alpha. Maybe you have been longing for something more

meaningful; maybe you have been feeling the

disconnect, feeling of drifting away. Maybe Alpha is for

you!

For more information, please contact Eby Kurian at

[email protected].

Volunteers are need during the day to set up for the

RCIA Easter Vigil reception and after the Easter Vigil at

the reception. It is easy work, paid in Graces! Please

contact Terri Ryan at 2814821391 ext. 334 or

help.

Lenten Alms Giving Charity is a frequent and

important theme of the Gospels. As individual members

of Mary Queen, each of us is called to focus more

closely on almsgiving during Lent. Almsgiving is the

outward action of donating money or goods to the poor

as a reflection of your love for Jesus. This year during

Lent we are asking every person/family to donate the

following items to our Food Pantry. When you come to

Mass each weekend please place the items in the Food

Pantry Donation Box located in the church narthex.

It is better to give alms than to store up gold; for

almsgiving saves one from death and expiates every sin.

Those who regularly give alms shall enjoy a full life" (Tob

12:8 9).

Divine Mercy Sunday

Jesus spoke these words to St. Faustina….

(186)* Call upon My Mercy for sinners. I

desire their salvation. When you say this

prayer, with a contrite heart and with faith

on behalf of some sinner, I will give him the

grace of conversion. This is the prayer: “O

Blood and Water, which gushed forth from

the Heart of Jesus as a fount of Mercy, I trust in

You.” (1397)*…..You always console Me when you pray

for sinners, the prayer most pleasing to Me is prayer for

the conversion of sinners. Know My daughter, that this

prayer is always heard and answered.

The Divine Mercy Novena and Chaplet will begin on

Good Friday, April 10th, following the 3:00 PM Stations of

the Cross. The remaining eight days of the Novena April

11th 18th will be prayed at 3:00 PM in the St. Joseph

in the Time of the Coronavirus

Comfort us, O Lord, for we are like

unsettled by what lies ahead.

to still our hearts in our time of need and

hear our prayer: Heal those who are sick

with the coronavirus and protect the elderly

and most vulnerable. Give strength to all who

tend to our health and wisdom to researchers

who work toward a cure. Open our eyes

and hearts, as you did during Hurricane Harvey,

that we may look beyond our immediate needs to

care for others who need help.

Through the Holy Spirit, guide our leaders to make

wise decisions for the welfare of all the people

they serve. Grant eternal rest to those who

have died from the virus. May Mary,
