Love: the power of Transformation Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Change

1. PRINCIPLE ONE: Nonviolence is a way of life for courageous people. It is active nonviolent resistance to evil. It is active spiritually, mentally and emotionally. 2. PRINCIPLE TWO: Nonviolence seeks to win friendship and understanding. The end result of nonviolence is redemption and reconciliation. The purpose of nonviolence is the creation of the Beloved Community. 3. PRINCIPLE THREE: Nonviolence seeks to defeat injustice not people. Nonviolence recognizes that evildoers are also victims and are not evil people. The nonviolent resister seeks to defeat evil not people. 4. PRINCIPLE FOUR: Nonviolence holds that suffering can educate and transform. Nonviolence accepts suffering without retaliation. Undeserved suffering is redemptive and has tremendous educational and transforming possibilities. 5. PRINCIPLE FIVE: Nonviolence chooses love instead of hate. Nonviolence resists violence of the spirit as well as the body. Nonviolent love is spontaneous, unmotivated, unselfish and creative. 6. PRINCIPLE SIX: Nonviolence believes that the universe is on the side of justice. The nonviolent resister has deep faith that justice will eventually win. Nonviolence believes that God is a God of justice.

Every tree is known by its own fruit. One does not pick figs from thorn bushes, nor gather grapes from brambles. Lk. 6:44

PARISH CALENDAR

6 Mar. Wednesday, Children’s Liturgy 12 pm & 6:30 pm

19 Mar. Tuesday, St. Joseph Feast Day (8:30—5 pm) Mass 12 pm

THE INSIDE SHOWS On this our third Sunday from reading the Sermon on the Plain, Jesus speaks of the inner soul and its outer expression. He uses images as he teaches. He addresses all of us. Jesus sees a plumb line connecting the soul with the soul's expression-words and actions. He uses exaggeration to drive home his point. We are urged to clear out the debris that blinds us. He knows that we have an uncanny ability to be blind to our own weaknesses, though they be as big as a board. He knows, too, how willingly we seem to ferret out others' small-est speck-like flaws. And this, too, is for our general consumption; solid old goodness and solid old badness will show eventually. The old Latin saying, which echoes Jesus’ images, is true: “What is bred in the bone will out in the flesh.” By and by, the inside will show through.

TODAY’S READINGS

First Reading — One’s speech shows the bent of one’s mind. Praise no one before he or she speaks (Sirach 27:4-7).

Psalm — Lord, it is good to give thanks to you (Psalm 92).

Second Reading — We are given victory over death through Jesus. In the Lord our labor is not in vain (1 Cor. 15:54-59).

Gospel — A good person produces good, an evil person pro-duces evil. The mouth speaks from the goodness of the heart (Luke 6:39-45).

Pope Francis’ March Intention

Human Trafficking That Christian communities, especially those who are persecuted, feel that they are close to Christ and have their rights respected.

Congratulations:

to the Recently Baptized:

Azrael Alexander Baggett Jacob Davis Ferguson Nizza Katerina Cardinale
