Our students worked very hard this week during STAAR.
I was so proud of their persistence and commitment. I
want to congratulate our Special Olympics athletes who
competed today. It was a beautiful day for the track meet
and our students did awesome! Good luck to our
Orchestra students who complete in UIL next week.

Coming up on our spring calendar... April 7th Birthday treats for CMS staff (go here if you'd like to help http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f084caeae2fa20-cmsstaff) April 20th @9 am General PTO Meeting & Principal Coffee in CMS Learning Commons May 1st-4th Teacher Appreciation Week (yes, we do that in middle school) May 12th Birthday treats for CMS staff (see link above)
Our awesome students will conduct 3 collection drives this Spring to
support our community. This is a chance to do some Spring clean-out
around the house as well as support our students and community.
March 31-April 6 Participate in the new or gently used children’s book drive for students
at Webb Elementary. Books will be provided to children for summer
reading or used in classroom libraries. Donations can be dropped in
boxes in the front hallway.
April 3-7
Participate in the toy and clothes drive for the Samaritan Inn. The grade
level that brings the most donations, new and gently used, will get a
grade wide pajama day! Drop donations off outside the gym and
cafeteria in the labeled boxes. The winning grade will be announced the
following week, so start bringing in those donations!
April 17-21
We will be collecting items from a short list of always-needed supplies
for the Samaritan Inn. A list of supplies will be provided soon!
Online Registration for Returning
Students for the 2017-18 will be on the
HOME ACCESS CENTER. In order to update information or register online for the
2017/2018 school year you must have a HOME ACCESS
ACCOUNT established. Please contact Cockrill Middle School
if you do NOT know your username/password. You may also
email Mrs. Dominguez at [email protected] to
request your login information.
Students are beginning to wear more warm weather clothes, so it is time to review some dress code highlights. Go this site for the full dress code policy. http://www.mckinneyisd.net/parents/dress-code/
Shorts, skirts, and dresses must be fingertip length
Leggings may be worn with shirts/tunics that cover the entire front and back side
Tank top straps must be 3 inches wide (no spaghetti straps) Muscle shirts are not allowed
Undergarments should not be visible (this includes bralettes and bandeau styles)
Off the shoulder styles are only permitted with a 3 inch tank top
Developing Self- Esteem in Teens
We all know that the development of a positive self-concept or healthy self-esteem is
extremely important to the happiness and success of children and teenagers. Some
suggestions in building a positive self-esteem in your child:
1. Practice giving your child words of encouragement throughout the day.
2. Be generous with praise. Use “descriptive praise” and be specific.
3. Teach your child to practice making positive self-statements.
4. Avoid criticism that takes the form of ridicule or shame. Use “I” statements rather
than “You” statements when giving criticism.
5. Teach your child about decision-making and to recognize when he/she has made a
good decision.
6. Teach self-discipline.

Cockrill Athletics Spirit Night When: Tuesday, April 18th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Where: Nom Noms Grill and Chill

Please come out and support Cockrill Athletics by dining
at Nom Noms on April 18th between the hours of 5:00 pm
to 8:00 pm. Dine in or carry out. Cockrill Athletics will
get 10% of the sales during that time frame. We hope to
see you and your family and appreciate the support!!
The athletic booster club for parents of students who are in
athletics has a few openings for the upcoming school year. If
you are interested please contact Ann Ahlborn at
Membership Chair
· Promote and encourage membership in the Athletic Booster club
· Collect forms and record membership information in the booster club roster
· Maintain the online booster club website
· Coordinate volunteers to work membership table at sporting events/parent meetings
· Attend all Board meetings
Spirit Wear Chair · Oversee all areas pertaining to spirit wear
· Coordinate the purchase of all spirit wear with the vendor
· Establish plan to sell spirit wear
· Provide invoices to Treasurer for payment
· Coordinate volunteers to work spirit wear table at sporting events to promote and sell
spirit wear
· Attend all Board meetings
