March 4, 2016 Dear ASCE Student Chapters, The University of Alabama is excited to see you at the upcoming 2016 ASCE Southeast Student Conference next week here in Tuscaloosa, Alabama! Below we have some important updates: 1. Registration The deadline for late registration has passed. If there are any issues that need to be resolved, please contact us at the conference email ([email protected]). Registration at conference will be 2:00-6:00pm on Thursday, March 10, 2016 in NERC 1012. A schedule for conference and a map showing the location of NERC on Shelby Quad can be seen later in the Mailer. There will be no registration before 2:00pm. Each school should only send two (2) members to the registration table. Schools will confirm their attendance and receive name tags, driver’s packets, conference programs, schedules, t-shirts, and meal tickets. This is also the time that papers for Balsa Bridge and Service are due. 2. Drop-Off and Parking A more detailed driving packet will go on the website the morning of Monday, March 7, 2016, and three hard copies will be given to each school during registration.

3. WeatherPossibilitiesTheforecastiscallingforrainfortheconference.Beawareofthatasyouprepareforconference.Thereisalsothepossibilityofthunderstorms.Wewillkeeppeopleupdatedduringconferenceandmakesureeveryonestayssafe.

4. TailgateThursdayeveningwillbeginwithawelcometailgate,whichwillcombinethesteelbridgedisplays,tableswithafewsponsors,andageneralmeetandgreet.Foodwillnotbeprovided,butparticipantswillhavetheopportunitytopurchasefoodfromourstudentcenterorfromlocalfoodtrucksthatwillbepresentthateveningfortheconferenceonShelbyLane.Everyoneisencouragedtoenjoythetimeandbringyardgames,footballs,Frisbees,etc.Pleasenoprojectedmusicsinceclasswillstillbeinsession.

5. CompetitionClarificationsandQ&APleaseseetheClarificationsandQ&A(http://asceconference.ua.edu/clarifications-and-qa.html)ontheconferencewebsitebeforeemailingtheconferenceemailregardingcompetitions.Newquestionswillbepostedandcategorizedbycompetition.

6. ConcreteCanoe

Thedeadlinehaspassedforthesubmissionofthedesignpapersandengineeringnotebooks.Allthosematerialshavebeenpassedalongtotheregionaljudges.Iftherewasaproblemwithsubmission,pleasenotifyusattheconferenceemail([email protected]).TheCaptainsMeetingwillbeThursday,March10that7:00pminSERC1059.Itismandatorythatyourcaptainattendsinordertocompeteduringtheconference.Allothereventsarenotedontheattachedscheduleandmap.Youwillbenotifiedofyourpresentationtimebyregistration.DuringdisplaysonShelbyQuad,ifyourschoolbringsatent,youwillnotbeallowedtostakeitdown.TheraceswillbeheldatLakeLurleenStatePark.Drop-offwillbeginat6:30amonSaturdayMarch12th.Noalcoholwillbeallowedatanytimeatthepark.ConcretecanoeswillnotbeallowedatLakeLurleenanyotherdaybesidesMarch12th.

7. SteelBridgeTheCaptainsMeetingwillbeThursday,March10that7:00pminSERC1013.Thisismandatorythatyourcaptainattendsinordertocompeteduringtheconference.TheconstructionofbridgeswilloccurinthebasementofNERC.Youwillbenotifiedofyourconstructionorderbyregistration.

8. BusinessMeetingThebusinessmeetingwillbeFriday,March11that6:30pminroom3104oftheFergusonStudentCenter.Foodwillbeprovidedtothoseattending.Itismandatorythatallschoolssendrepresentativestothemeeting.Ifyourschool
