FAIRBANKS, ALASKA - One of the World’s best places to view the Northern Lights! This is exactly the reason we have selected this itinerary to undertake our quest to view the spectacular natural wonders of the amazing light shows that are most prevalent during the time of this Please Go Away™ Vacations “FEATURE” TRAVEL experience. Fairbanks’ location is ideal for northern lights viewing because it is under the “Auroral Oval,” a ring-shaped zone over the far north where aurora activity is concentrated. Additionally, Fairbanks’ low precipitation and distance from coastal areas contribute to consistently clear nights. All combined, these variables make the Fairbanks region an outstanding destination for possible aurora borealis viewing. The Northern Lights will be visible in Fairbanks an average of four out of five nights when the sky is clear and dark enough. Scientifically speaking, the aurora is dancing above year-round, but we can only see it during the Aurora Season when we have dark enough skies. The northern lights are so prolific in the Fairbanks region visitors actively out during the late evening hours increase their chance of seeing the aurora to more than 90 percent! THE IDITAROD - The Great Race! The race is held each March, runs from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska (above the Arctic Circle) and covers more than a thousand miles in length. Mushers (dog sled drivers) and dog teams travel over mountain ranges, through monotonous, flat tundra, to the western Alaskan coast before finally ending in the small town of Nome. In 1925 the city of Nome on Alaska's remote Seward Peninsula suffered a diphtheria outbreak that threatened to exact a tragic death toll on the people of the community and surrounding area if life-saving serum could not be delivered to the city in time. Unfortunately, flying the serum from Anchorage to Nome in the dead of winter at the time was just not feasible. Instead, the serum was carried north from Anchorage to Nenana on the Alaska Railroad where it was to be picked up by the first team in a chain of dogsled teams that would quickly relay the serum to Nome. With each village along the trail offering their best musher and dogsled teams, the serum was carried the almost 700 miles to Nome in just over five days. This epic serum run made heroes out of a few mushers and sled dogs and would later be part of the inspiration for today's annual Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

COMMENTS ON AIRLINES USED & OTHER IMPORTANT POINTS As part of Cheyenne Travel Agency, Inc. dba Please Go Away™ Vacations’ unmatched personal service of “taking” travelers on the personally escorted travel experiences, as opposed to “sending” them on their own; while at the same time providing value-added “all inclusive” travel experiences where everything specifically referenced in the descriptive brochure is already included in the price shown. This includes, but is not limited to, round trip air transportation from a specific named departure city or cities (changes in the departure city used are allowed with proper adjustment of pricing). The identity of specific carrier(s) used, which may include a code-share flight, will be assigned and disclosed at a later date, when known. In the alternative, individual travelers may arrange their own air transportation that properly coincides with arrival and departure requirements of the specific tour departure. If done, proper adjustments will be calculated. In today’s travel world, airlines regularly charge to check luggage, for overweight luggage, and for other services. When imposed, airlines require the traveler to individually pay for these amounts with credit or debit cards, or cash. Because of this, such charges are not included in any indicated tour cost. Flight air fares will be calculated from Wichita, KS unless schedules or availability indicate otherwise. We are pleased to attempt to arrange flights from other departure cities if more convenient for, and requested by, our travelers.
