Thank goodness. Enough was enough. And then some. I guess I will jump right into the hot topic of the past month. Since the timing of the last Marlin Bill and the launch of the transitional menu did not coincide there have been many questions regarding the club’s food service over the past month. I will try to address those concerns here. First of all, we went with the paper menu as a temporary plan while we sorted out some new entrees and appetizers so we can see what worked and what did not. We will be returning to the “traditional” looking menu in the beginning of May. Historically speaking March and April are the 2 slowest months of the year in the club so we thought this would be good timing to try some new things out. Second, yes the prices have gone up on several items. We have to hold a certain percentage over cost on the items we serve in order for the restaurant side of the club to work. In comparison to “normal” restaurants we hold that percentage at 10 to 20 percent less as a benefit to our members. When the cost of goods goes up we have to adjust the menu prices. The other thing we strive to do is to maintain a high quality of product for the price. So in some cases we may be priced similarly to other local establishments, but we are putting out a higher quality product. Again we do this as a benefit for our members. I recently went to another area restaurant and someone at our table ordered the Seafood Alfredo. Since we serve the same dish I paid particular attention to what came to the table. There was roughly two-thirds as much seafood with the pasta when compared to ours, and the price was over 5 dollars more than ours. Again we strive to provide a high quality at a fair price for our members. Another question that was brought to me was as to whether or not we could work some “value minded” items into the menu. To that end Mikey is working on some items that will be featured as a sort of “Pub Fare” in the coming weeks. Lastly, our goal is to have a variety of “Specials” each week. We have an awesome crew in our kitchen, and I am sure that the specials will be just that, special. As a whole I am pleased with adjustments made to the menu, and I have received much positive feed back. I hope I have helped clear up any questions you may have had about the food service. Speaking of feedback, as President I always encourage members to share their opinions or suggestions with me. Whether it be an email, a phone call, or a quick chat at the marina, I am here to serve the membership. I will always take opinions and suggestions to the Board of Directors for discussion. Likewise, Board Members bring feedback to each board meeting. Again, we are here to serve the membership. One thing I do ask, is that if you choose to send an email or a letter to the club please be respectful and include your contact information so I can respond to your query. Continued on next page.

A Message from the President - For the first time in 2014 I am writing a Marlin Bill article without snow on the ground!

Thank goodness. Enough was enough. And then some.

I guess I will jump right into the hot topic of the past month. Since the timing of the last

Marlin Bill and the launch of the transitional menu did not coincide there have been many

questions regarding the club’s food service over the past month. I will try to address those

concerns here. First of all, we went with the paper menu as a temporary plan while we sorted

out some new entrees and appetizers so we can see what worked and what did not. We will be

returning to the “traditional” looking menu in the beginning of May. Historically speaking

March and April are the 2 slowest months of the year in the club so we thought this would be

good timing to try some new things out. Second, yes the prices have gone up on several items.

We have to hold a certain percentage over cost on the items we serve in order for the

restaurant side of the club to work. In comparison to “normal” restaurants we hold that

percentage at 10 to 20 percent less as a benefit to our members. When the cost of goods goes

up we have to adjust the menu prices. The other thing we strive to do is to maintain a high

quality of product for the price. So in some cases we may be priced similarly to other local

establishments, but we are putting out a higher quality product. Again we do this as a benefit

for our members. I recently went to another area restaurant and someone at our table ordered

the Seafood Alfredo. Since we serve the same dish I paid particular attention to what came to

the table. There was roughly two-thirds as much seafood with the pasta when compared to

ours, and the price was over 5 dollars more than ours. Again we strive to provide a high

quality at a fair price for our members. Another question that was brought to me was as to

whether or not we could work some “value minded” items into the menu. To that end Mikey

is working on some items that will be featured as a sort of “Pub Fare” in the coming weeks.

Lastly, our goal is to have a variety of “Specials” each week. We have an awesome crew in

our kitchen, and I am sure that the specials will be just that, special. As a whole I am pleased

with adjustments made to the menu, and I have received much positive feed back. I hope I

have helped clear up any questions you may have had about the food service.

Speaking of feedback, as President I always encourage members to share their opinions or

suggestions with me. Whether it be an email, a phone call, or a quick chat at the marina, I am

here to serve the membership. I will always take opinions and suggestions to the Board of

Directors for discussion. Likewise, Board Members bring feedback to each board meeting.

Again, we are here to serve the membership. One thing I do ask, is that if you choose to send

an email or a letter to the club please be respectful and include your contact information so I

can respond to your query.

A Message from the President—(continued) This weekend marks the annual Pirates of the Caribbean party. This is always a fun night at the club

and I am quite excited to see the Wenches and Buccaneers show up in full Pirate regalia. I wonder

who will win best costume this year? The next party after that is the season opener on May 3rd. I

expect there to be a lot of frivolity at the event as well. And don’t forget about the Annual Nautical

Flea Market that morning. Be sure to show up early and get a good deal!

Now on to the fishing report. First of all I would like to congratulate Capt. Andy Helms, John

Gudelsky, and the crew of the EnJoy on their winning of the Los Suenos Triple Crown tournament

series in Costa Rica. Scoring the most points overall in a 3 leg tournament in some of the most prolific

billfish waters in the world, against some of the best crews in the world is no small feat. Through the

wonder of the internet many of us were cheering for the “home team” during the final leg of the

tournament while working in the boat yard and later hanging out at the club. WAY TO GO TEAM

ENJOY!!! The bite in Costa Rica has continued to be red hot throughout most of the winter. Capt.

Jonny Duffie gave me his report the other evening when he got back in from an exciting day on the

water. The end of the day, yes (1) day, was a tally of 85 for 118 on sailfish along with a chafed off

blue and a 40 pound dolphin. Now that’s fishing! Also, as I write this, Squidman Bill Pino was

finishing his third day of the Offshore World Championship out of Quepos. They were holding 7th

place going into the day and the fishing has been good, so let’s hope pink squids and blue squids raised

a bunch for them today! I talked to Capt. Blaine Champlin the other morning and he told me that the

sails bit ok out of Palm beach following a cold front a few days earlier, but then they disappeared right

away. Sneaky sailfish. And lastly, I have heard reports that the back country and surrounding shallow

waters in the Florida Keys are likely to never be the same again now that Sharon and Capt. Al

Rittmeyer are done with them. I hope Al will share a report with us when he gets back.

In closing this month I would like to take a moment to remember 2 Club members that passed away

recently. Woody Klein was a long time member of the Club and an all around great guy. I never saw

him when he wasn’t smiling. Whether it was first thing in the morning getting his coffee at Wawa or

sitting at the Club on a Sunday afternoon, Woody was a happy guy and a pleasure to be around. Sue

Congialdi of the charter boat JoJo also passed away this past week. Sue had a passion for fishing and

loved her time at the beach. Along with her husband Joe she fished all over the world and caught

everything from Makos to Marlin. I have talked to Joe many times over the past few days and I feel

just awful for him and his family. Please keep the Klein and Congialdi families in your thoughts and

prayers.

Until Next Time,

Franky
