Welch students competed in vari-ous competitions and attended leadership academy workshops on Monday, attended the general ses-sion & business meeting on tuesday and attended the awards ceremony on Wednesday. The March students of the month have been selected by a vote of the faculty. The Elementary students are Kyndall Dorsey and Gabe Boston, the Middle School Student is Jenna Burgess and the High School Students are Charlsie Gatewood and Madisen Horton.

ElEMENtAry

Kyndall Dorsey is in 2nd grade. She is the daughter of John and Christina Dorsey. Her favorite subject is recess because you get to play. Her heroes are the Wild Kratts characters. Kyn-dall’s favorite thing to do outside of school is play at her friends’ houses.When Kyndall grows up she wants to be a zookeeper.

Gabe Boston is in 5th grade. He is the son of Matt and Angie Bos-ton. His favorite subject is social studies because he gets to color. His hero is Felton, his neighbor. Gabe’s favorite thing to do out-side of school is play basketball. When Gabe grows up he would like to be a banker like his dad.

Jenna Burgess is in 6th grade. She is the daughter of Heather and Shane Burgess. Her favorite subject is Math because it is easy for her to understand. Her extracurricular activities include showing, judging, and dancing. Jenna also plays softball, basketball and throws shot and disc. She is looking forward to taking Ag in high school. After she graduates, Jenna wants to play softball at oklahoma State.

HiGH SCHool

Charlcie Gatewood is in 9th grade. She is the daughter of tobie and ryan Gatewood. Her favorite subject is Math because it comes easy to her. Her extracurricular

activities include FFA and rodeo. Her biggest inspiration is Hailey Kinsel. Charlcie’s future goals are to attend Sam Houston State University on a rodeo scholarship and become a veterinarian.

Madisen Horton is a senior. She is the daughter of Jeanie and russell Horton. Her favorite subject is Art because she loves being creative and making stuff. Madisen’s extracurricular activities include NHS, FCA, FFA, BPA, yearbook, Art Club, and Student Council. Her biggest inspiration is her mom. Her future goals are to go to Southwestern Christian University to play softball, get a good education to enable her to have a career that she will enjoy.

Natashia Biddle is in 1st Grade. She is the daughter of Billy and Amber Biddle. Her favorite subject is Math because you get to learn about numbers. Her hero is her dad. Natashia’s favorite thing to do outside of school is play outside with her chickens. When Natashia grows up, she wants to be a farmer.

Grady Gatewood is in 4th grade. He is the son of ryan and tobie Gatewood. His favorite subject is reading because he likes learning about new things. His heroes are Marty yates and Coleman Proctor. His favorite thing to do outside of school is rodeo. When Grady grows up he would like to be a rancher and world champion calf roper.

Avery Brannon is in 8th grade. She is the daughter of Matt and Andra Brannon. Her favorite subject is Math because she likes figuring out problems. in her spare time, she likes to mess around with her dog, Minnie, hang out with friends, and play softball. Her extracurricular activities include church, FCA, 4-H, gymnastics, Gt, and youth Group. Avery plays travel and school softball, basketball, cheer, gymnastics, and track. Her biggest inspirations are her mom and dad.

High SchoolBrady Chenoweth is in 9th grade. He is the son of Eric and Krystal Chenoweth. His favorite subject is StEM because they do a lot of hands-on work. His extracurricular

activities include archery, tSA, and FCA. He plays baseball and basketball. Brady’s biggest inspiration is Salvador Perez. His future goals are to play baseball at oSU while studying engineering.

levi Street is in 12th Grade. He likes all the subjects equally because they’re the same for every class--there’s good days and bad days. He played on the football team and his biggest inspiration is his father. levi’s future goal is to graduate from oSUit as a lineman.

tSA Competes at State

There were over 1,200 participants at the State tSA Competition this year. it was held at the Embassy Suites in Norman, oK on April 11-13. The 2018 State tSA Competition brought teams from all reaches of oklaho-ma to compete, including Welch.

Welch won five trophies in all. Jaden linthicum and Austin Haskell won 1st place for Middle School Struc-tural Engineering, Chloe Hitz won 1st place for High School Flight Endurance, Brady Chenoweth won 2nd place for High School Flight Endurance, Avery Brannon won 1st place for Middle School Flight, and reagan Etzel won 3rd place for Mid-dle School Flight. terrific job, tSA!

With the end of the school year quickly drawing near, FFA contests are in full swing! This season, Welch FFA has had students competing in public speaking, agriculture communications, livestock judging, food science, and horse judging. Though the state contest has not been held yet, we have already had several students represent Welch FFA very well at local contests.

The food science (ty Earp, Justin Haskell, Clayton lester), ag communications (Aubrey layton, landry layton, Grace Small, Addey Small, Charlcie Gatewood), livestock judging (Keylon Stogsdill, tristan Davis, Aubrie lester, olivia McGuire, Ethan Costerisan, Maddie Cook, Autumn Dotson, Faith lee) and horse judging (Grace Small, Charlcie Gatewood, olivia McGuire) teams were all new to their contests this year. At the NEo Aggie Days, the ag communications team placed 8th; the food science team also attended. The ag communications team com-peted at Connors State College interscholastics - Aubrey layton was 1st place High Point individual; the team was 3rd overall. At redlands interscholastics in El reno, the team placed 8th. The food science team competed at NEo interscholastics, Ft. Scott Aggie Days, and redlands interscholastics. The livestock judging teams competed at Connors State College and Ft. Scott Aggie Days. The horse judging team attended the Will rogers Classic in Claremore, and, in the words of Grace Small, “hey, we weren’t terrible!”.

Several FFA members also wrote, memorized, and presented speeches in the public speaking contest. Keylon Stogsdill also competed in the extemporaneous speech division. At the Vinita FFA Speech Contest, landry lay-ton placed 3rd in the 9th Grade FFA opportunities division. At the Dewey FFA Speech Contest, landry placed 3rd. Aubrey layton also placed 4th in the Ag Policy division. At the oolagah FFA Speech Contest, landry placed 4th; Grace Small placed 3rd in the Animal Science division. At the NEo Aggie Days contest, landry was 5th, Aubrey was 4th, and Grace was 4th. At Ft. Scott Aggie Days, Aubrey was 1st, landry was 2nd, and Charlcie was 3rd. At the Jenks FFA Speech Contest, Aubrey was 3rd and landry was 3rd. At the Pi Speech Contest, Aubrey was 1st and landry was 2nd - Aubrey and landry will compete at District Speech for a spot in the state contest on tuesday, April 24.

The 7th & 8th grade quiz bowl team had a very successful year!They began the season by winning Districts at Peggs and continued on to win regionals in Brushy, which qualified them for State. They entered the state tour-nament ranked #3. They finished off the season at state on the oklahoma University campus and placed 5th out of 20 teams. The team practices and stud-ies outside of school to prepare for these events. The 2017-2018 quiz bowl team consists of Kacee Stoner, tarynne Mills, Seth Schaper and Gage Miller-Captain.
