Dr. Arun Jyoti Borah has received this year’s “Young Scientist Award” given by the State of Assam. The award carries an amount of Rs.1.00 lakh along with citations and mementoes. The award will be presented on 7 th March at 3.00 pm by honrable Chief Minister of Assam. He received this award on the basis of his work in the laboratory of Prof. Prodeep Phukan of Department of Chemistry, GU during 2006-2013 and 2015-2016. At present he is working as Post-doctoral fellow with Prof. Zhuangzhi Shi in State key laboratory of Organometallic Chemistry, Nanjing University, China. Dr. Borah co-authored 15 publications of Phukan’s research group which include one chemical communications (Royal Society of Chemistry) of impact factor 6.31; one Journal of Organic Chemistry (American Chemical Society) of impact factor 4.84 and one Chemical Reviews (American Chemical Society) of impact factor 47.92. His research achievements include the development of a catalyst-free nitrene transfer process for carbon-nitrogen bond formation which is a very basic organic reaction with a new dimension. He was involved in developing several new synthetic pathways for new heterocyclic molecules of biological interest.
