In Math

Students have been learning to measure both short and long lengths of time as well as temperature. Students have been identifying benchmark times using an analogue clock, telling time to the hour, half hour as well as quarter hour. Students have also been identifying the relationship between days, weeks, months and years and measuring time over longer periods. Students have been associating the rising and falling of temperature with how it feels outside as well as how temperature changes between seasons as well as between times of the day.

In Language

Students have been learning about story writing, creating both a rough and good copy of their stories in a published booklet. Students have been asked to include: characters, a setting, a problem as well as a solution and an appropriate ending to the story. Students are asked to draw detailed pictures as would appear in a picture book read in class. Students are still asked to use the Word Wall, their dictionaries as well as sounding out strategies to help with their spelling. Punctuation is also to be included at the end of their sentences as well as Capitals at the beginning.

Technology

Please ensure to use Tumblebooks, Raz-Kids (if applicable), Dreambox (if applicable) at home. The more practice, the better!!!

Social Studies:

In Social Studies, students have been exploring different communities around the world. Students have been investigating how people live in different continents and countries and how their lifestyles are directly linked to the land, the environment as well as climate and economic development. We will look at communities in Uganda in Africa, Vietnam in Asia, Guyana in South America as well as Nunavut in Northern Canada.

The Arts:

Students have created a picture of a Peacock opening its feathers with the use of both primary and secondary colours by mixing primary colours together. They are currently creating self-portraits with the use of crayons that represent various skin tones, as well as with the use of symmetry to ensure our portraits are correctly aligned.

Learning Skills:

Students are continuing to learn independence by attempting a task before asking questions. We continue to encourage students to productively struggle by firstly applying what they know.
