March 2009 My dear Friend, After church last Sunday morning a tall, handsome young man came to speak with me. “Mrs. G, I’ve just returned from Africa, from Angola, where I’ve been working for three months in a mission hospital—I’m hoping to be a doctor. You remember me? I used to read and listen to your Bible stories when I was a boy.” “Oh yes! I’m delighted to see you again.” “I must tell you this,” Ra- jeev said. “When I was out walk- ing in the ‘bush’ in Angola, I came upon an old man sitting, reading a book. The cover looked like your Adam and Eve book I had when I was a boy, back in Canada. I discovered that it was Adam and Eve—in Portuguese!” I brushed a tear away. Last Thursday morning on our voice mail there was a message from Singapore, with a number to call back. Gerald called back. I was working nearby so I couldn’t really help hearing one side of the phone conversation. “I’m returning your call to Mrs. G. I’m Gerald Griffiths, Mrs. G’s husband.” “….” “Oh, that’s marvellous! Wonderful! All those languages! We’ll put the books in the mail P.O. Box 150 Station O, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M4A 2M8 P.O. We’re so glad the Bible stories have gone so well in Cam- bodia, in Khmer.” When Gerald put the phone down, he came over to my desk. There were tears in his eyes. “Why are you crying?” I asked. “Well, listen to this. That was a lady from TWR—Trans World Radio—in Singapore. She is the consultant for TWR’s Chil- dren’s Ministries in Asia. “You remember that some ten years ago Myfanwy and Mi- chael visited missionaries in Cam- bodia and Myfanwy happened to give a cassette of your Bible stories to a missionary there with Trans World Radio.” “Yes,” I said. “And soon after that you received a request from TWR to send that missionary, Blossom Phillips, all your books of Bible stories, with permission to translate them into Khmer for broadcasting in Cambodia.” “The stories were trans- lated into Khmer and tried out on children in Sunday schools to see how they would like them. The children loved them. That was the green light. The Khmer Bible story program—Happy Children’s Gar- den—went on the air in February 2002. Now for seven years Bible Stories Alive have been broadcast every week all over Cambodia. Children have been converted and built up in their faith.” “Yes,” I said. “Well, TransWorld Radio’s teams in different countries in Asia want to translate and broadcast the Bible stories in their languages too. “That phone call was from the Resource Centre for children’s ministries in Singapore, Blossom Phillips, asking for sets of all your books for translation into Viet- namese for the children in Viet- nam, into Burmese for the children in Myanmar [Burma], into Filipino for the children in the Philippines, into Nepali for the children in Nepal, and another set of books for Cambodia.” “Why are you crying?” I asked. “Well, these are vast oppor- tunities to give the word of God to hundreds and thousands of children who know little or nothing about the true God and their Saviour Jesus Christ. “For 36 years, you know, your mail has been full of testimo- nies of children being converted and rooted in their faith through the Bible stories. And to think that God is giving us now this enor- mous privilege of broadcasting Bible stories in these languages in largely unreached countries in Asia. The word of God changes lives for time and eternity. Just imagine how the children will be

so much a part of this ministry! Your prayers and support mean so much. Thank you. The Lord continues to ex-pand the ministry of Bible Stories Alive. Let’s thank Him, and trust Him to supply every need. God bless you always! With my love,

P.S. Today we had an email request for another language broadcast: Indonesian for Indonesia. Airmailing all the books (60 per set) to these six countries will cost about $2,000.

helped when these stories go on the air!” By now I was crying my-self. We praised the Lord together. Everybody at the Granary praised God. I phoned my daughter Myfanwy, who had given cassette of Bible stories to the mission-ary in Cambodia. She was deeply moved. God had used a casual contact in Cambodia to open all these doors. Myfanwy remem-bers wondering if she had done the right thing in giving away her last cassette of Bible stories to that missionary! The radio program in Cam-

bodia provides a monthly report to donors. We have just received their ministry report for January: 1,339 letters from children. The children who write letters receive the giveaways, which include cas-settes or CDs of Bible stories. You’ll be interested too in this. The children who listen on radio are organized into Listening Clubs in towns and villages where the broadcast is heard. The radio storytellers visit these clubs for special rallies. The pictures on the next page are of children in these rallies listening to the Bible stories. I’m so happy to bring you all this wonderful news. You are

EnglishPraise: Mrs. G has now recorded almost 500 radio programs of Bible Stories Alive—enough weekly programs for 10 years. Also, the sound track has been digitalised ready for new technologies and placed in permanent form for generation to come. Prayer: Pray that more and more children and teens (and adults) around the globe will listen to God’s word in the Bible stories by radio, internet, CDs, mp3...and shine as lights in the world.

Other LanguagesPraise: Every week Bible Stories Alive are being broadcast in Danish, in Amharic (Ethiopia), in Kalenjin (Kenya), Khmer (Cambodia)—and soon in

Vietnamese, Indonesian, Burmese, Filipinno, and Nepali. Prayer: Ask the Lord to direct those who pre-pare and broadcast these programs and to inspire the translaters, produc-ers, storytellers. Pray that through the stories the children (and all who listen) will experience God’s love and forgive-ness.

BooksEnglishRemember our ongoing project. All the books in colour. Praise: In March we reprinted DANIEL (5,000 copies) and JACOB THE GRABBING TWIN (5,000 copies). In May we plan to reprint JACOB GOD’S PRINCE. This will com-plete 18 books, with 42 still to do.

Prayer: Pray for our artists Eileen Lucas and Josephine Simpkins, and for the funds for this huge printing project.

Other LanguagesPlease pray for the Rus-sian translation and printing of JESUS THE BABY (15,000 copies)

sponsored by the Slavic Gospel Association. Pray too for the Amharic translation and printing of All the Stories of Genesis by SIM in Addis Ababa, and for the Portuguese ministry. The two JOSEPH books are ready for printing, wait-ing for the funds.

Here is the “old man sitting reading Adam and Eve” in Portuguese out in the bush in Angola.

Dear Mrs GBolivia (from a missionary): Thank you so much for the two boxes of Bible story books in Spanish you sent us. Your books will be a tremendous help to us in our work with Bolivian children in evangelism and discipleship. We are deeply grateful. K. J.

India: Our Sunday schools make good use of your stories and our children are enjoying them very much. Thank you very much, and we do look forward to receiving such help and co-operation in the future also. Do pray for our ministry among the children and our Sunday school teachers. We have Sunday schools all over these regions and this ministry is a means of bless-ing to many. Many pagan children come to Sunday school and are saved. Because of them, their par-ents are also coming to the church. This comes with all our love and prayers. I will be eagerly looking forward to hearing from you real soon again. Maranatha! A. P. P., Darjeeling DT, India.

Nigeria: I have a passion for rais-ing godly children. I am the found-er of the Covenant Carriers Minis-tries. The ministries have a school outreach that visits the private and public schools in the community every week, ministering Christ to these young souls. Your books will help a lot in reaching out to these children and young people. Pastor D. O.

Kenya: Greetings in Jesus holy name from the entire church! Thank you for the efforts you’ve

made to ensure that the books reach us in Kenya. The story books have greatly enriched our Bible knowledge as a church, family and community. A Visit with Mrs. G has revolutionized our minds and biblical knowledge. We are praying for you. Pastor F. O.

Ghana: A talk about spreading the Word of God and the difficulty of making people understand it has made me write you this letter. I am a boy of eleven years old, a small boy who likes stories and history. I was able to have your address to get books which will further my understanding of the history of the Bible and much more. I want you to help me with books about the words of God. I would like you to include books which contain pictures in them so the illiterate will also understand things about God and His words. Goodbye and thank you for reading. T. A.

Zimbabwe: Your letters always bring joy and comfort to my heart. The power of prayer and of the gospel that you always deliver to me bring hope and courage to my life. I will be writing my final exams this year and I am anticipat-ing a career as a medical doctor. I love this career because I wish to assist those with broken hearts. I mean orphans who are in trouble and those who are sick. I’m now a preacher and a singer. Q. M.

Papua New Guinea: Thank you so much for the package of books

containing Daniel, Samson the Wrecker, and Come Meet Mr. D.S. Isaiah. Especially Daniel—what a warning not to have too much pride like King Nebuchadnezar, but to see what other people are worth before making a decision. Also, big thanks for the tape on Daniel. Mrs. G, I just love it. Thank you so much for the wonderful things you are doing for me. D. A.

USA: Thank you so much for all the wonderful ways God has used you in my life and in the lives of millions around the world. God bless you for it! My parents signed us up for the CD of the Month club and my children (3 years, 22 months, and 10 months) love your stories, and go to sleep listening to them every night. It has been so rewarding to hear our 3-year old quoting you and applying the principles in the story to everyday life. When he was about 2, my husband and I were having a disagreement, and our son came up to us and said “No fighting.” He had been listening to one of the patriarch stories, where Isaac was trying to keep Esau from fighting. It was really neat that at 2 he was able to carry that over to real life. Then a few months ago, when he was eating, he mushed his food up into a big pile and said “Look, Mommy, it is Mount Nebo. Moses died on Mount Nebo, but it was okay because the Lord Jehovah was with him when he died!” There have been so many other times too. I grew up listening to your stories and love them still. M. W.
