EDGEWATER CLUB ANNUAL HOSPICE NIGHT by Nancy Fournier

The Edgewater Club’s 13th Annual Tidewell Hospice Night is Friday, March 6, 2020 at

5:30 p.m. In case you do not know how this event works--- each table decides what they

will bring to eat and drink (pizza, subs, appetizers, full dinner, whatever you like. We will provide fan-

tastic entertainment by June Rietdorf and The Lemon Drops; Dick Libby will share words of wis-

dom, and we will have a speaker from Tidewell Hospice. You will have an opportunity to share an

amazing evening with members of our community while providing support for a great cause. Cedric

LeBlanc has donated a beautiful bench for your yard for a raffle that will take place at the event.

Again this year, Cedric said he would like all the proceeds to go to Tidewell Hospice, and we will again

dedicate this fundraising raffle to the memory of Bill Huston and Jean Murray, who were the Chairper-

sons for this event for the first 10 years. Therefore, we will be selling raffle tickets for our special

“Chairmen’s Hospice Raffle” at coffee hour until Hospice Night. You do not need to be present; just

put your name and telephone number on the tickets; tickets are 3 for $5.00. Thank you, Cedric, for

your beautiful donation. Please mark your calendar and join us in memory of all of those who have

benefited from the wonderful care that our local community provides here in Englewood at Tidewell

Hospice, both in at-home care and at their beautiful hospice houses. If any questions, please contact

me at 586-246-2372 or [email protected].

Lifetouch has completed its first week of photography appointments and things went extreme-

ly well. Special thanks to Bev Grotrian and her volunteers for greeting and organizing the members

TENNIS by Anne Overdulve

Edgewater Tennis players are enjoying a fun-filled and busy 2020 season . At times Florida winter makes it challenging, throwing high winds, sweltering heat, or cool temperatures at us. We take it all in stride and keep filling the courts. In addition, we appreciate that, no matter the weather, our many loyal spectators continue to fill the viewing area. We are happy to report that some new residents have joined our various teams, several whom had never before picked up a tennis racket , although you wouldn’t know it; bravo & welcome! Our ladies and men’s travel teams have enjoyed competing on Mondays and Wednesdays, against teams from Englewood, North Port, Venice and Nokomis. Come and watch some great tennis! Casual games are also played most days. All are wel-come. Check the calendar for open court times and join in. Mixed doubles on Friday afternoons is again very popular by players and fans alike! Come cheer us on during our three-on-three round-robin tournament on March 27. March 20th is group photo day for ALL tennis players, sporting our yel-low and white club colours. Please mark March 29th on your calendar for our end of the season awards banquet. In the meantime, See you at, or on the court!

LEMON DROPS CHORUS by June Rietdorf March 2020 will be a very busy month for

the chorus. We will present a program for the Veteran’s Home in Port Charlotte on March 2nd and sing a different program for Hospice Night at Edgewater Club on March 6th. And then we turn around and present our big spring show The Roaring 20s at Edgewater Clubhouse on March 27th & 28th. We hope to see you all there for the music that’s been around for 100 years: Sweet Georgia Brown, Charleston (dancing too), and all the great composers of the 20s like Berlin, Gershwin, Cohan, etc. Tickets for the spring show will go on sale Tuesdays, March 17th & 24th at coffee hour for $5. You may also purchase tickets from any member of the chorus at the beginning of March. The shows start at 7:30, doors open at 7:00 p.m. and remaining tickets will be on sale at the door. We will continue our tradition of donating part of the proceeds to the Veterans Home for purchase of wheelchairs for the Honor Flight. “There is music in the air.”

BUNCO & SWIM CLASS by Lee Cavey

There will only be one Bunco in March, which will be March 25th at 12:30 p.m. in the all purpose room . Hope to see everyone there. Shuffleboard is in full swing and we are having fun. It is never too late to come and join us every Monday morning at 9 a.m. at the club-house courts. BOCCE by John Bauer The season is moving along with what seems to be unusual speed this year. We only have 3 weeks of play left before the playoff game to determine the Club Champion in what has been a

very competitive season. Good luck to the teams that will be competing for that honor and the right to have their names inscribed on the plaque in the clubhouse. The Bocce Banquet is upcoming on the 20th of March in the clubhouse. It will be held starting at 12 noon to 3:00 pm. The banquet committee is currently notifying the team captains of the particulars of the banquet. Thanks to everyone of our volunteers that contributed to making this another successful year of Bocce. Hope everyone has an enjoyable summer and hope to see all of you back on the Bocce court next season.

HAWAII CRUISE by Pat Cameron

Anne Soltis has adjusted some rooms, and is still holding one Balcony Cabin at the original price of $3469+ taxes. That is an incredible price when you realize that it also includes all airfare, trans-fers, and two nights in a hotel in Honolulu. Also, she has agreed to meet with all who are going, on March 24th at 9:00 a.m. at the Edgewater Clubhouse for a briefing. This is necessary for those going back home and not returning until just before the trip, especially Canadians.

2020 RUMMAGE SALE by Cheryl Miller The 2020 Edgewater Rummage sale is done – and was it a good one!!! Without the almost 100

volunteers, this event would not be the success that it was. It is not the Chairperson who makes an event successful – it is the volunteers. I cannot tell you what a privilege it is to work with such a won-derful group of people! Thanks to the following people: the club janitorial crew for the room set up, the Men’s Club for our lunch, the pickup and delivery crew (we had 28 pickups) and all who gathered and stored items before the sale. The bake sale crew – almost $450 this year. Jewelry did a great job again; they made well over $100. Having two days to do everything was a big job- sorting, displaying and pric-ing all the merchandise, selling to our customers, selling the 50/50, bagging and cashiering the sales, tallying the money, and the daunting task of tear down and packing up. Thanks to those who went through the items that the Suncoast Humane Society was not able to take, and made sure they were forwarded to an appropriate charity. Thank you to everyone who used their personal waste receptacles for disposing items the charities would not accept. I hope that I have not forgotten anyone. I look for-ward to the 2020 sale… thank you for the opportunity to chair this event. Oh, one more thing…..the sale brought in approximately $5,000 to the club this year…that is the most the sale has done since I began chairing it a few years ago! Thank you one and all!

HOLIDAY ESTATES III HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION by Arvilla Collins We had the election of officers and board members for the 2020 year and your new board is: President, Arvilla Collins; Vice-President, Yves Sincennes; Secretary, Margaret Bennett;

Treasurer, Ruth Hybel. Board members: Bob Evarts, Judy Gatter and Marti Mahoney. None of the pre-sent board are year round residents, so we will be looking for volunteers to help the board during the summer months. More on that at the March meeting and next months article.Still see a lot of people walking with the traffic around the park. Remember, ride your bikes with traffic but walk facing the cars coming toward you. Residence have mentioned to me they are still having problems with people not cleaning up after their pets and letting them come up a long ways on their lawns. A good rule is to not let them wander more than 10 feet onto someones lawn. Also had a couple complaints that dogs are being allowed to run loose and not on a leash. If you need a copy of the deed restrictions or by-laws, please go to the Edgewater website and they are under Holiday Estates III. SPEED LIMIT 20 MPH

LEMON BAY ISLES PROPERTY OWNERS ASSOCIATION by Cheryl Miller Our 2020 season is in full swing! We had 30 plus homes represented at the February 2020

meeting. Our 55 plus survey has been completed and the appropriate paperwork has been sent to the State of Florida. We are required to submit this survey every two years to ensure that our community retains its 55+ status. Many thanks to Alan Beard and Clara Kustra for volunteering their time to ac-complish this most-important task. The Audit Committee consisting of Carol Roffe, Jake Callier and Carl Snow has completed their audit of our books and I am pleased to report that the committee found eve-rything in order; they also commended Sandy Bowden on the accounting procedures she follows. Nice job, Sandy! Unpaid 2020 dues are now incurring a $5 late fee. Many thanks to the members of the Board for making so much progress so quickly – 100 percent paid is always our goal. These monies are needed to cover maintenance in the common areas, lighting and water in Island #1, Board and volun-teer insurance, supplies, and professional and filing fees, as needed. Ralph Cochran is pursuing quotes for the front entrance signs – they need structural repair, repainting and the signage itself needs to be replaced. The Board will reach out to The Edgewater and Lakeside clubs and the LBI POA 3/4 requesting funds to help offset the cost of this entrance renovation. We continue to follow up on deed restriction violations this season – primarily relative to home upkeep, parking non-compliance and pet is-sues. Please take a moment to review your deed restrictions. A committee has been formed and will work on the review and revisions to our deed restrictions next season. The Board is still working on the small piece of property we inherited from Charlotte County and also on the driveway onto Falcon from the Millenium Building. Please take a bit of your time to attend a POA meeting and keep abreast of what is happening in LBI. The Board is here to serve all our residents; if you need to speak to any Board member between meetings, our contact information is in the directory. Take care, be well and enjoy “our little piece of paradise”.
