Hello Everyone,

I personally want to thank everyone in the Chamber for an outstanding 2010 -- we welcomed over 40 new members and put on exceptional events throughout the year. Our Chamber has been successful year in and year out because of our dedicated members. We appreciate all of the volunteer time spent working on our events and showing our new members what a great organization they have affiliated themselves with.

There are exciting new things taking place within the Chamber. Paul Sivak of Precision Payroll of America will chair our new Event Committee whose sole purpose is to come up with innovative ideas for events to benefit the Chamber and the community. This spring we hope to have our completely revamped Chamber website up and running, bringing many new opportunities for our members to showcase their businesses. (We will keep you posted on the date.) The new website will have too many advantages to list in this letter over our current site, but with Lisa Edwards and Shane Duncan of Monkey Wrench Studio putting the new site together for us and Thom Martin of TMC² providing technical expertise, I know you will all be extremely pleased with the end result.

Please make an effort this year to volunteer for just 1 committee or event that piques your interest. If we could have all our members get involved in just one thing during the course of the year, it would take some of the pressure off of the same group of people who have been working on events year after year, and you will have fun doing it while making new friends and business contacts. Volunteering is a great way to showcase your business to other business leaders – remember, people prefer to do business with people they know and trust – and what better way to get to know them than at a Chamber activity?

Thanks again to all for a fabulous 2010! Let’s make every effort this year to have even a better, more successful 2011.

Metra and Union Pacific studied station improvement initiatives across the country and the West Line safety infrastructure is incorporating the best practices, creating the most comprehensive safety system of any commuter rail operation in the United States.

The ATWS uses audible and visual alerts to warn pedestrians at crossings near the stations that a second train is approaching or present. Improvements at the Glen Ellyn station will not only include the ATWS at Main Street and Park Boulevard but also new pedestrian paths to safely guide commuters away from the tracks to a gated crossing.

Union Pacific Railroad’s Wes Lujan, Illinois’ Director of Public Affairs, will speak to Chamber members regarding the UP/Metra West Line improvement at the April Luncheon. Check the monthly postcard or glenellynchamber.com for details.

As you were planning for retirement, your own financial futl.lrewas your top priority. But, you also kept in mind the legacy youwould leave your children when you were gone.

As retirement drew nearer, you had every intention of sticking withyour original plan and budget. But now, after being retired for a shortwhile, you have found that you want additional discretionary income.StilI, you're unsure about increasing your savings withdrawals sincedoing so would erode the assets you had hoped to leave your heirs.

Mary Ann AsanFinancial Services Professional

Consider this hypothetical situation about how one 70-year old woman tackled the very samechallenge. She had set aside $500,000 for her children's inheritance. Yet, once she actuallyretired, she realized that the annual budget she had carved out for herself was insufficient forthe retirement lifestyle she desired. She considered simply buying an annuity to generatemore discretionary income for herself until her financial professional suggested a two-steplife insurance plus annuity strategy to help her avoid choosing between her financial future orher family's.

First, she bought a permanent life insurance policy with a $500,000 death benefit, naming herchildren as beneficiaries. Based on her age, gender and the options chosen, the annualpremium for this policy was approximately $17,0001

Next, she purchased a $500,000 Lifetime Income Annuity that generated a guaranteed annualafter-tax payout of almost $37,0002 that would continue every year for the rest of her life. The annuity payouts covered the entire life insurance premium each year, plus she stillreceived the nearly $20,000 remaining per year of income just as she had hoped.

The life insurance plus annuity strategy achieved both important goals: Our retiree got theextra income she needed, and was stilI able to help secure her family's financial future with agenerous, guaranteed inheritance.

I Based on a Protector Universal Life Insurance policy with a lifetime no-lapse guarantee, and a non-smokerunderwriting class for a 70 year old female as of 2/2009.2 The hypothetical example is for illustrative purposes only and is based on a Single-life 15-year period certainLifetime Income Annuity for a female age 70.Annual income amounts are based on rates in effect as of 2/2009.Rates are subject to change and payout will vary depending on premium amount, age, gender, the number of lives(one or two) and payment option. Actual amounts are dependent on interest rates in effect when the policy isissued. Other payment options are also available.
