Marco Basta
A garden is an enclosed space, fenced off and protected. It is a place within which humans delimit and control nature, giving it order and beauty. It is within this limit that something comes into being, which necessarily leads one to individualise an external, unknown, indeterminate and chaotic space. The world is generated from the divide between these two spaces. My work exists within this divide. It is an attempt to define and listen to that interior and intimate space within which we acknowledge ourselves, making it necessary to create something that allows us to decipher and measure that external, chaotic space, which is nothing more than reality itself. It is an attempt to possess something, which in truth continually evades us; whose sense is always ‘elsewhere’ and which can now be fixed in memory and, consequently, in images. In this sense, I’m interested in images when they can tell us something using an imagination that can always refer to a larger and collective one. The actuality of an image, I think exists in this capacity, that is, in being able to connect to our personal “ruins” by activating a comprehension or a sentimental closeness related to what we’re looking at. And basically what I try to do in my work is to approach as closely as possible to a common feeling that follows the acceptance of a feeling first of all personal and intimate. There is an Indian story that explains much better than I did the time, but also the density of the imaginary that I seek in my work. Tell us about the Universe as a big dream dreamed by a single divinity and in which all the characters dreamed, are dreaming of their own.
