Baker’s Dozen heads back to the East Coast where veteran

producer Marco Polo brings a welcomed boom bap flavor to

the series. New York City is the birthplace of Fat Beats (and

as many would say, hip-hop in general) and current NYC

resident Marco Polo is true to form in representing our roots.

As always, every volume of BDZ features one artist and twelve

tracks (with limited random copies including the Baker’s Dozen

bonus track on a flexidisc) and comes equipped with a 5x7” postcard

insert that features a photo of the artist’s workspace along with

the equipment used in their music making process. A personal

narrative of how they got into beat making in the first place is

featured on the back of the jacket. Visually cohesive and packaged

with the utmost attention to detail, Baker’s Dozen is a series that

speaks up for artists whose craft renders voices superfluous,

and whose instrumentals alone suffice to make a statement.

“Another nerdy thing I dig about these versions is most of them

are the OG raw MPC versions before they got all mixed down and

separated. My fellow producers can relate to the agonizing process

of “chasing the demo sound” in the final mix…we wanted to keep it

100% rare and unreleased.” – Marco Polo

Time waits for no man, but venerable New York emcee and producer

Roc Marci remains a rare exception to the rule. Enchanting listeners

with his dexterous lyricism, methodically soulful beats, and steely

persona on releases like 2010’s critically-acclaimed Marcberg, and

his revered 2012 effort, Reloaded, the pride of Hempstead, Long

Island emerges from the shadows after a three-year hiatus with

the equally spellbinding Rosebudd’s Revenge. This is the rapper’s

fourth studio album. Aside from appearances on landmark releases,

including De La Soul’s Grammy-nominated And the Anonymous

Nobody, and Ka’s Days With Dr. Yen Lo, Roc Marci’s presence

has been scarce, making Rosebudd’s Revenge one of the more

    anticipated hip-hop releases of 2017.

Enlisting his band of collaborators to join him on every song on

his last release, Roc Marci flips the script on his latest offering.

Rosebudd’s Revenge’s lone features are frequent collaborators:

Brownsville emcee Ka on the epic sparring session “Marksmen,”

and Knowledge The Pirate on “No Smoke.” This uncluttered lineup

gives Roc Marci ample space to deliver his tales from the strip. Key

selections from Rosebudd’s Revenge include the suave, keyboard-

laden affair “Better Know,” “Killing Time,” “Pig Knuckles,” and the

hard-boiled title-track, and boasts musings that rank among the best

    of Roc Marci’s tenured run.

Spilling his fluid flow over production from the likes of Grammy-

nominated producer Knxwledge, as well as George Paulin, Animoss,

Don C, Modus Op, and himself, Roc Marci reaffirms his placement

on the musical avant garde and standing as one of hip-hop’s

preeminent lyricists on Rosebudd’s Revenge, a defining effort that

will leave fans salivating for more.

Lefto (Belgium) and Free The Robots (California) found themselves

on tour together a year and a half ago and had the wise idea to do

a record together with the beats they were making from inspiration

    collected along the way.

Fast forward to the present, and that idea has grown into Karavan -

an album of international exotic melodies and heavy rhythms - that

reflects the sound gather through their years of consistent nomadic

    touring.

Long Beach serial chiller Ahwlee is a beat vet who delivers smooth

buttery samples with a nostalgic vibe. 1991 is a cult classic cassette

now reissued for the first time. These tracks are dusty, mellow and

easy-going. Don’t mistake mellow for boring, however, because

Ahwlee’s production is nuanced and intricate underneath the

minimalist overtones. There’s jazzed-up Rhodes all over the place,

and the percussion work masterfully includes a ton of negative space

in between perfectly chopped breaks. They’ll get your head nodding.

The late 1980s and early ’90s saw the dawn of a new day as

sampling was at a high point with hip-hop’s golden era.

Following in the footsteps of Double Dee & Steinski, Prince

Paul, and the Dust Brothers, DJ Shadow would push the

boundaries of sampling with his early Mo’ Wax releases. His

first full-length album, Endtroducing..., further shined a light on

the art form, as the album exploded through popular culture

and put the reluctant star in the spotlight.

Producer/composer David Axelrod landed a dream job at

Capitol Records in 1964, immediately working with jazz legend

Cannonball Adderley and lifting soul singer Lou Rawls to great

    heights.

Gifted songwriter, bassist, and producer Leon Sylvers III led his

siblings’ group the Sylvers from their teenaged harmony-tinged

sweet-soul beginnings to mainstream disco heights; DJ Krush

embarked on a journey with British label Mo’ Wax that found

the turntablist/producer using hip-hop’s breakbeat foundation

while pioneering a new genre of abstract instrumentals; Sly and

the Family Stone trumpeter Cynthia Robinson became lovers

with Sly, giving birth to their daughter, Sylvyette “Phunne”

Stone, who helped carry the torch with the Family Stone into

the next century; Australian plunderers The Avalanches release

their first record in sixteen years; adventures of a reggae

    messenger with Danny Holloway.

TRACKLISTING (Click Tracks In Blue To Preview Audio)

For the loyal and expanding audience of hungry producers and DJ’s

worldwide, Redefinition Records’ latest contribution entitled “Breaks

with Mistakes” is the ideal tool for sample based artists looking

for fresh & unique drums to add to their creativity. Following in the

footsteps of J-Zone’s “Lunch Breaks” and Pat Van Dyke’s, “PVD

Breaks”, this is for the serious beat lovers. Breaks with Mistakes

features a whopping 39 brand new, exclusive, royalty-free drum

breaks ready to be the driving force of your next hit. The sounds

in this collection were performed by a live drummer (Redef’s own

Earl Davis), recorded during impromptu sessions at studios in Los

Angeles and Jersey City. Ranging in a variety of patterns, tones and

tempos from 74 BPM to 118 BPM, Breaks with Mistakes retains the

human feel and was created with the producer in mind. Whether you

sample to loop or chop, this will answer the call and intentionally,

all the breaks here focus on kick, snare, hi hat, ride cymbal and

the occasional tambourine with minimal drum fills and no toms. The

entire record was curated, mixed and mastered by veteran Hip Hop

producer/former House of Hitz engineer K-Def from several hours

of drum sessions. Only the best material made the cut; making it

instantly useful in your next production. K-Def also chose to minimize

effects such as reverb in way that gives users more freedom to control

and color their own sound, allowing producers to easily develop new

character from the punchy & dry hits. Though this the perfect record,

the imperfect title is a call to the loose drumming and spontaneous

grooves played by the drummer. Our philosophy on drums is, “If it’s

broken, don’t try to fix it” and the end results are some of the most

natural breakbeats you can get your hands on at a budget friendly

price. These are beats you just can’t beat … not buying Breaks With

Mistakes is a mistake in itself!

Redefinition Records is proud to release the latest project from one of hip hop’s most multi-talented artists, Insight the Truncator aka Andre Todman. Insight returns to the spotlight after a departure from the industry in recent years. Where was he and what was he up to? Well after a decade and a half in the business, dozens of respected records, countless national and international tours, Insight took a well deserved hiatus to try other endeavors such as app development, electronics and social media strategizing, areas in which he found great success. This shouldn’t surprise longtime fans who may remember in as early as 1997, Insight created his own website, Insight.fm which featured an interactive SP1200 and forums. This was rare during the pre-social media era, long before having a web presence was a part of an artist’s everyday operation. Building a strong reputation for his live performance, his on-stage capabilities included not only rapping, but also producing, DJing, and even live drawing-while-freestyling and interacting with audience members. The triple threat from Boston (MC / DJ / Producer) has dedicated his life to his creativity and his diverse portfolio and resume is a true testament to the kind person Insight is on and off of his recordings. Credited for mentoring and being instrumental in the career beginnings of many of the staples of Boston’s current Hip Hop scene, and beyond, Insight also assisted a young D.C. native known as Damu the Fudgemunk, who later matured into an esteemed solo artist in his own right (and co-owner of Redefinition records). The 2 would first collaborate on one of the greatest hip hop albums of the 2000’s as Y Society on 2007’s full length, Travel at Your Own Pace. Through this collaboration they formed a brotherhood that today is well into its second decade, bookmarked by this latest release. On Ears Hear Spears, “The Truncator” passionately speaks his mind through rhyme while “The Fudgemunk” handles all production. Throughout 10 outstanding tracks Insight delivers a diverse lyrical exhibition over a then 20-21 year old Damu the Fudgemunk’s beats. There’s an undeniable level of directness and sincerity in his lyrics which are artfully assembled in a manner that will astonish literary buffs, yet permeate the lives of everyday listeners alike. Pick up a copy of the album on vinyl, Cassette Tape or CD now. Vinyl version includes printed lyric sheet. Album also available to stream or download on all digital channels.

    TRACKLISTING

Coalmine Records is excited to announce the limited-edition vinyl

release of the Artifacts’ highly regarded 2012 single, “Easter,” which

marked the group’s first official release in more than 15 years.

Initially released as a digital single on April 3, 2012 (the Tuesday

before Easter Sunday), the track later appeared on Coalmine’s

decennary compilation, ‘Unearthed,’ which dropped May 13, 2014.

However you heard it, one thing was very clear: despite their time

apart, Tame One and El Da Sensei sounded as fresh as ever. The

New Jersey rappers’ venomous flows are boosted by the neck-

breaking production of acclaimed North Carolina producer Khrysis.

Making the cipher complete is the turntable work of DJ Dutchmaster,

who provides the scratch hook and outro cuts.

With this release, “Easter” makes its grand return in the physical

form in a limited-edition white vinyl pressing that also includes the

instrumental track on the flip. It also takes things back to the old-

school by way of a front jacket hole that exposes the label (the heads

    know what’s up).

”Collages are a marvelous thing, every now and then, almost a

magical thing. The process of layering materials that were not meant

to fit together, such as fabrics with photos, is one of constant choice

and assessment. Maybe these could fit with those? How can I

make this sit well with that? As with physical objects, the process

of creating sound collages will have you up late considering…

contemplating… calculating… It can leave the strongest of minds

numb. But then, all of a sudden, a magic moment occurs. “These”

weirdly fit with “those”, “this” somehow blends perfectly with “that”, and

creation just… happens. It will never cease to amaze me how some

silky chords recorded on a sunny Ohio day, seem destined to be

paired with a stumbling Polish drumbreak. That is the mind boggling,

time traveling magic of beats. Pieces of sound, from different times

and places, sometimes appear to be made for each other”

With these words in mind from lyricist Ivan Ave, we present to you

Ol’ Burger Beats’ sophomore LP Mind Games. The first LP on

the newly founded label Mutual Intentions, and one of the most

thematic releases we’ve done to this day. Ol’ Burger is known in

    TRACKLISTING

On the boundary of Europe and Asia lays Orenburg, on the River

Ural. This city is home to The Content Label’s latest musical

discovery, Evgeniy Litke, who goes by the name Fiji. Inspired by the

creativity and beats of artists like DJ Krush as well as the natural

environment of his surroundings, Fiji starting making dense tracks

based on deft rhythm programming and moody soundscapes. He

has worked with the likes of Long Arm, Tinavie, pianist Eugenia

Peters, and Kammerton. Peering Into The Darkness, Fiji’s debut

album for The Content Label, is an ambitious project years in the

    making.

With Dday One acting as executive producer (contributing the

album’s film-like sequence and art direction), Peering Into The

Darkness features twelve cuts that seamlessly meld together

into a sonic expedition. The album opens with gentle-yet-bracing

chords and exotic accents before a loping drum beat kicks in.

Titled “Between The Place, Between The Time”, this track sets up

Fiji’s modus operandi with layers of sustained, dream-like samples

and passages. Further song titles like “Depth Contemplation” and

“Wading Through the Swamp of Sorrow” reveal a psychological

album that invites the listener to peer within. Beautiful, soundtrack-

like cuts such as “Inevitable Trajectory” and “Spread Arms In The

Rain” also create the feeling of a cinematic experience, evoking

images and feelings that are unique in the realm of beat-making.
