The teacher is no longer the one who teaches, but who himself is taught in dialogue with the students, who in turn while being taught also teach.

We live in a world where the little things really do matter. Each encounter — no matter how brief — is a micro-interaction which makes a deposit or withdrawal from our rational and emotional subconscious. The sum of these interactions and encounters adds up to how we feel about a particular product, brand, or service. Little things. Feelings. They influence our everyday behaviors more than we realize.

Luck is the residue of design

1. WhatChoose one of the standards sets

other than AASL’s.

2. So WhatSpecifically how do you support

these standards with your program? With yourself?

3. Now WhatHow will you link these standards

to the library program and AASL?

As you visit today’s sessions, consider:

What is the brand you are trying to promote in your media center?

How can you represent that brand in a logo or image?

Include that image in everything you produce.

I cannot tell you how many districts are laying off or reassigning their school library media specialists and replacing them with  parapros. These replacements, not qualified according to the discussions we've had in the past, are clearly playing instructional roles in violation of the MI School Code. When it's mentioned to superintendents that their actions violate the school code, the response is resoundingly that they will continue with the replacement  plans until MDE tells them to stop. Deterrence is not working and  enforcement is not feared.

So, in light on this depressing situation, I have two questions for you:1.Have any school districts ever been penalized for having parapros play instructional roles in the media center? If so, can you point me to them? 2.Is there anything your office can do to increase the enforcement of  the rules regarding media specialists? Would having a list of violating districts help?

Thanks--I appreciate your support. It's getting really hairy out there  for media specialists and I am more worried than I have ever been.

To my knowledge there aren't any districts that have had the loss of state aid funds do to the employment of paraprofessionals. However, I am sending a letter this week to the Taylor school district letting them know that they are being investigated for inappropriate use of non-certified personnel. We can only act upon our data collection (what the schools themselves tell us) and upon complaints from individuals.

If I receive a complaint I will follow up on it.

anything you can say about it because
