SAND NUMBERS

I choose sand numbers because it integrates the visual sense and the tactile sense, mostof our sensory receptors are in our fingertips therefore the information is sent directly to ourbrain, using the finger tips provides experimental learning which helps with memory retention. It helps with physical development and cognitive and language development.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

Playing with sand supports the development of fine motor skills and develops hand-eyecoordination, which helps them to manipulate and use sand numbers.

COGNITIVE AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT

This is all about following and understanding what they are asked to do, still paying attention andconcentrating on their play and talking with each other about what they are doing and using their imagination by simply playing with sand. They learn maths, such as measurements, and also new vocabulary such aspour, more, full and empty.

2-2 1\2 YearsOldFriedrich Froeble called the gifts''the children delight" and believed that as children observed the similarities and differences of the properties of these shapes, it would set the educational foundations for later physics education. These fourwooden shapes are about 2 inches in width, 1 triangle, 1 rectangle, 1 circle, and 1 square. These wooden shapes are smoothly finished but are not painted or stained. These woodenshapes helps the children to recognize shapes and to pronounce the names of the shape, while rubbing they handsalong the outline of the shapesthey have a feelfor what each shape feels like and to see the difference of each shape. The children can also count the sides of the shapes. Know the difference between the shape and sizes of the shapes by feel.

4-5Years OldMaria Montessori said "thata mathematical mind was a sort of mind which is build up with exactity".This counting board beads frame is about 3 inches in width with a total of 22 wooden beadsand is also smoothly done without any paint or stained. It is use for counting, adding, and subtracting; the board also helps the children with their fine motor skills.Pushing the beads back and forth while learning mathematics. This board gives the children good hand and eye coordination.
